  1. How many kids does Jasper enroll? Not sure.. but you can bet that Newton has about 1/4 of that. It's not so much about numbers but more about how the program itself is structured. Let's face it, Newton is a better football program than Jasper. Even when people talk about Newton having an "off year," they still schedule schools much larger than themselves (i.e. Jasper, Crockett, Carthage) and most of the time, beat those opponents, or give them a very hard fought game. Not to mention, they usually win district and go to the playoffs every single year. Jasper has no excuses. It takes 11 to play, and we'll see if that 11 is stronger than Kirbyville's. The friday night lights don't lie.

  2. Let's play NAME THAT TEAM! Green and gold noise-talkin backers beware:  The answer may shock you...

(01/02) lost to Shelbyville in 1st round.

(02/03) lost to Hemphill in 1st round.

(03/04) lost to San Augustine in 1st round.

(04/05) lost to Mart in 1st round.

(05/06) lost to Mart in 2nd round.

(06/07) lost to Mart in 2nd round.

(07/08) lost to Corrigan Camden in 1st round.

    Couldn't close out the district

lost their best player (well, team)

AND lost to Kountze (a now heavy favorite for the district crown)

The skies are darkening in Chambers County, and this time, it's not Hurricane Rita. The Bucs oughta watch their "booty." The era of green and gold dominance has come to an end. LARRY THE PIRATE HAS SPOKEN.

  3. hillin has found himself in several situations such as the one this weekend against Mildred. Every single time (to my knowledge) he has found a way to battle back and pull through. He couldn't quite do it this weekend, but who cares. That's baseball. And howell jr. wasn't taking a shot at coach T. It was really hot, Hillin had been in for 6 innings, ANYBODY would have been tired. Should he have came out? Maybe. But that situation is such a delicate one in trying to decide if you go with somone new, or do you leave Hillin in and try and get 3 ground balls. He's done it all year long, why should now be any different? He pitched an excellent game, pitched excellent all season long, and coach Terrier and his class act 2-A program did an outstanding job this year. Go coogs!

  4. Best ever...? Buna's had some really good ballplayers over the years, most of which never made if this far. Granted, those teams played in different eras, so it's not really fair to compare this team with ones from the past. The thing that separates this team from others is not talent. Talent can only get you so far. For anyone who's watched them this year, you'll notice that they're scrappy as all get out. They'll get down in the dirt, they'll lay down the sac-bunt, they'll do whatever it takes to make it to the next game. They're not flashy, and sometimes (last weekend against NB) downright ugly. You give me heart and a will to get it done, and I'll take that every day over talent. If they beat a solid Hemphill squad next weekend in Jasper, move on to Austin, and hold their own representing the region in the state title game... We'll know this 08 Buna Cougar team was and is the best EVER to don the blue and white.
