Erickson Sets Lamar Saves Record In 3-0 Shutout Of Louisiana-Lafayette Cardinals snap three-game losing streak to Cajuns April 22, 2008 Lamar scored three runs in the fourth inning and five pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter as Tim Erickson became the school's career saves leader in a 3-0 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette at Vincent-Beck Stadium Tuesday. Erickson pitched a perfect ninth to record his eighth save of the season and the 16th of his career. The senior left-hander entered the game tied for 23rd in the nation in saves and 49th in ERA - which now stands at a Southland Conference low 2.36. His eight saves this season move him into a tie for second with Wes Cooksey and Eric Cammack. Jon Hunton holds the LU single-season mark of 10, which he set in 2004. Brian Needham (2-2) earned the win after allowing no hits and striking out one in the third and fourth innings. He was the second of five pitchers for Lamar - with each of four preceding Erickson lasting two innings. Starter Ryne Nelson allowed the only Louisiana hit on a single up the middle by Josh Logan - the first batter of the game. The Cajuns had eight total base runners via three walks, a hit batter, an error and a pair of fielder's choices. Lamar turned two double plays and narrowly missed on two others. Lamar (24-16) opened the third inning with three-consecutive hits from Steven Tucker, Chris Dunkin and Travis Dunson. Tucker scored the first run on Dunson's double into the left field corner. Jeff Vickers walked to load the bases and David Moore followed with another walk to plate Dunkin. Dunson scored the third run on Logan Pace's sacrifice fly to center. Dunkin went 3-for-4 and Tucker was 2-for-4 to lead the Cardinals. Louisiana (20-20) was one-hit for the first time since May 12, 2000. The win also snapped Lamar's three-game losing streak to ULL, which including a pair of walk-off defeats in Lafayette. Greg Harmon (1-1) took the loss after allowing all three runs in two full innings. He gave up three hits and walked two. Lamar will return to action this weekend at Texas State. The Cardinals and Bobcats will open their three-game set in San Marcos on Friday night. First pitch at Bobcat Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
