Demons given second shot to play in Orange Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader The Southeast Texas Demons put on a nice show this past Saturday, unfortunately someone had too much of a good time. Clean up crews after the game discovered various forms of alcoholic bottles around the campus of West Orange-Stark Middle School and quickly informed the school district. WO-S Athletics Director Dan Hooks made a call to Demons' Coach Chip Pierce and told him the team was not welcome at the middle school anymore Pierce informed the Leader of this at Thursday’s practice. Superintendent Dr. O. Taylor Collins then said the team would have one more shot at getting it right when it came to security at the games. Collins then on Friday reported the Demons would be allowed to play at WO-S Middle School on Aug. 4 under close supervision. “They assured me they will meet the expectations of the trustees and of myself,†Collins said in a phone interview. “I hope to be around personally to check on things. If all goes well then I will approve the next one. They also are going to give the district more money for extra custodial workers. I wish them well and hope they win.†The alcohol being on the campus grounds is a serious problem considering the number of children who roam around the facility each day during school hours. Police officials were seen at the game and seemed to be watching over what was a nice sized ground, one that also seemed to be properly behaved. While the final judgement deserves to fall on the Demons’ shoulders, the team should not be considered a bust at this time and discarded so quickly out of town. At the next home game at WOS Middle School there should be an effort to watch activities of both the fans and teams combined. Collins should be applauded giving the team another shot at succeeding in Orange because the city of Orange can really benefit from the semi-pro team being in the city. The team is full of local talent playing a game they love and that brings family and friends from all over Southeast Texas to games to watch their favorite player. If problems continue then it will be time to looking into the team being exorcised from the city.

Kirbyville is barely a 3A school and Carthage is much bigger numbers wise. Coach Alaverez won't schedule them again.
-
I talked to coach Alverez Thursday and he said most of their players are back to.

All starts week 0 with West Brook Bruins at Ozen.

Rangers trade Lofton Rangers deal Lofton to Indians 1:13 PM CT 01:19 PM CDT on Friday, July 27, 2007 By EVAN GRANT / The Dallas Morning News [email protected] KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The trading season has officially started for the Rangers. On Friday, four days before the deadline, the club shipped outfielder Kenny Lofton back to the Cleveland Indians for 22-year-old catcher Max Ramirez. While the club remained in talks with the Los Angeles Angels, Dodgers and Atlanta Braves on a deal for Mark Teixeira, the trade of Lofton was the team's first of the trading period. In Ramirez, the Rangers get a player who is considered to be much more of a hitting prospect than a catching prospect. He was in the top 10 in the Class A Carolina league in five major offensive categories: batting average (.303, 6th), on-base percentage (.418, 2nd), on-base-plus-slugging (.924, 3rd), home runs (12, T6th) and RBIs (62, 3rd). Ramirez is expected to go to Class A Bakersfield. Cleveland had been the most persistent of suitors for Lofton. The Rangers had spoken with several other clubs about him earlier in the month, but much of that conversation faded out quickly. Lofton, 40, was hitting .303 with 21 steals and seven home runs. He is expected to play a corner outfield spot in Cleveland with Grady Sizemore entrenched in center. Moving Lofton means the Rangers will look at Marlon Byrd in center field the rest of the way – unless they acquire a center fielder in another deal. That, however, seemed unlikely. To replace Lofton on ther roster, the club will recall Nelson Cruz from Triple-A Oklahoma. Cruz was hitting .352 with 15 homers and 45 RBIs in 162 at-bats at Oklahoma. He hit only .188, however, in 43 games for the Rangers ealrier this season.
