twilyms reacted to bedelmon in 21-3A All-District Team
Yeah, that looks good if you are on crack!!!! You guys filling in these blanks need to get a life.... I guess you know what all the batting averages were, how many times they had a runner in scoring position and put the ball in play to get them in, SAC bunts, SAC fly's, getting an extra base on a bone head play by the other team... You think ground balls, popularity, and pop-ups go into the selections, but it doesnt... Coaches take it all into consideration... You may see every other kid twice in one season when they play your team and thats it.... So now your qualified to come on a public forum, that these kids read, and tell some of them they are not deserving of the award they earned... These coaches award these kids for all sorts of things that you and I dont see... Also, Mr AAW, the comment you made that HJ came in 6th and had 6 kids make all district makes me wonder what your point is? What are you insinuating? That our coach bullied the others into voting the way they did or that maybe he blackmailed them? Or maybe we did have 6 deserving kids on the field??

twilyms got a reaction from col1324 in 21-3A All-District Team
I have been dealing with All-District teams in both softball and baseball for the last seven years. As is the case with this team, the superlatives usually reward the most deserving players. Once past that point, not so much. The high school coaches have people that they have to please and keep happy. As will be the case forever, politics and pressure determine a lot of this. I know making this team is important to the kids, but that is just the way it is. The frustrating part is that the name on the back of the shirt in high school ball is sometimes more important than performance on the field, which only does the player injustice once they move on. Congratulations to the kids who made it. It is a nice honor. If you feel you should have made it and you didn't, next year take it out on the coaches that didn't vote for you and make them look bad. -

Don't let these teams get you down. Many deserving players get left off every year. Has always been that way and always will. -

All of these guys are great young men who we have grown to know quite well in our years in the HF/Winnie area. Good luck to y'all and I wish all of you the best of luck in whatever may lie ahead. Now go take care of business and head into the playoffs on a winning note. -

Maybe it's WOS beating the Cards and not the umps. Quit whining. -

It is very difficult to read this thread without responding when it is quite obvious some are wearing their rose-colored glasses as they evaluate and shred the umpiring. Leave age out of this. Your plate umpire for the HF game last week is 24 but you won so nothing was said of his ability (or lack of). WOS earned a win last night and no other explanation is necessary. WOS was better than BC last night...PERIOD! However, let's see if I understand what I have read (If I am to believe the comments, in combination with the stats from this post)
POST: KOGT states the umpire is a "hitters" ump.
REALITY: BC-2 hits, WOS 5!
POST: I've seen better umps in LL.
REALITY: Many of us TASO umpires are volunteer LL umpires and perform very well at high levels of both (thank you for noticing)
POST: Coaches can scratch umps followed by this guy will never call for BC and WOS.
REALITY: Umpires can scratch schools as well and many of us have scratched BC for the very reason you can read throughout this post.
REALITY: I called the BC/HF game last week (after having scratched BC) simply because no other umpires were available due to the high number of scratches and I was basically begged to take the game.
REALITY: The only other BC game I called this year was similar to last night: Livingston had more hits, pitcher threw well and BC made 4 or more errors. As a result, Livingston beat BC because they were the better team that day.
Winning is great. Losing is tough. Some times you play well, other times you just don't but to take away a solid performance by your opponent without acknowledging your teams poor performance AND then turn on the umpires is demeaning to your opponent(s) and....Well, you understand why the top umpires in the Chapter will exercise their right to scratch these type schools (irrational fans don't help either).
PS-I have called WOS 3 times this season and they are a solid team. Lack the pitching depth they'd like to have but 1-9 hits well and they play solid defense much like BC.
Best of luck to both teams in the playoffs as you represent SE TX and will do so very well!! -

Grant Anderson threw a complete game allowing 3 hits, 10 k's and no walks. He threw 82 pitches with 57 strikes and 25 balls.
Joe Clark threw a complete game also allowing 7 hits, 5 k's and no walks. 90 pitches with 70 strikes and 20 balls.
It's been a while since I've seen a high school game with NO walks in the game!
Great job by both clubs!

Don't know what happened to our sticks, but they need to wake up pretty quick. Great job by Ryan Johnson tonight. He shut us down. Time to pull up the boot straps and get to work. -

Good game by both teams. Very competitive by both teams and both pitchers. At some point it would be nice to just compliment all of these young men for their efforts instead of getting in a pissing match every single game. My comments are not meant for any one person. Just comments in general. Some days they all have their best days and other times they don't perform at their best. Unfortunately I have those same days at my job. Great effort by every player I saw play in this game yesterday. Didn't see a kid make an error on purpose, strike out on purpose or even walk someone on purpose. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age or maybe I'm learning to appreciate the time and effort that each kid from each team puts into what they do. Just my opinion. Attack at will. I'm a man. I'm 40, well 48 but you get what I'm saying. lol -

Chicks dig the long ball.
Just like high school basketball players that practice trying to dunk all day and spend very little time shooting free throws, high school baseball players spend most of their time in the cages hitting dingers and very little time taking ground balls/fly balls. Hence, the increase in "errows".

twilyms reacted to kicker in Local Rankings?
I like your rankings Rake1. I believe having Wos in the top 5 might be a little too early. Top 10? Maybe? I like their record and what they have done but dont believe they have truly been tested. Well see what team they really have after playing Buna tomorrow and then the tough tests of BC and Silsbee. If they can go 2-1 much less 3-0 against those teams then they are legit imo. I'm very impressed with what Coach Landry has done with this team and also know his assistant coaches are as good as they get. Coach Westbrook was one of my coaches when i played there, so I know. Looks like the kids are buying in to the program and BELIEVE they can win. Those two things, great coaching and kids that believe, are the recipe for success...and a tad bit of luck here and there. Ive only seen them play a couple times and hope to make at least 1 of the next 3. Could be a special year for the Stangs and they are young too. -

Finished with 14 strikeouts and 1 walk with 1 earned run in 6 innings
Team looked great last night.. Hit Anderson very well
Ready to see if they come out with the same intensity vs Buna
Congrats to WOS.. Solid team -

I think it was a heck of a game and wasnt a Blow-Out like many thought. Errors hurt, but they happen. Thought Clark did a great job. A few questionable calls by the umps (and I know thats what the losers always say) Keep your heads up Dogs.... It will happen to those who believe!
