I agree they play a tough schedule, No doubt just love to see a little home town match up some of those houston games I'd love to see but cant make due to work.

Its funny we all know kountze and silsbee as top teams in this area yet ozen skip out on a game every year. It's a shame because I'd love to see them play but I cant think of the last time ozen played either.

I haven't had a chance to see Ozen play a good game. I've only witnessed the Ned games this year and I wasn't impressed. i'll take your word for it but I think it would be a lot closer game than at ozen's finest thinks. Same with the Ktz game if Ozen played Ktz the way they played against Ned. Arnold would drop 30 and it'd be another close game.

He said " I'm still waiting on you Nederland folks to tell me 5 good opponents Nederland beat in the past two year." But yes you are correct sir a 1 point loss and then a 3 point loss in the HJ tournament.

I don't know that Ozen could beat big Sandy this year. I've watched a fair amount of Basketball and Ktz could hang if not beat Ozen this year as well. I'm not knocking ozen I hope you guys win out and head to state. But A good team is a good team and they (big sandy) beat a few 5A schools this year who are still playing right now.

Big Sandy, Kountze both years, HJ Both years, Brazosport this year who just won and moved on to the 3rd round. They beat some decent teams man.

I was going to say the same thing but someone beat me too it. This kid was the most offensively talented kid in the district and id like to see the stats but i know he led the district by a probably close to 5 pts in scoring.

I was able to catch this game last night and I'm normally one on board with English as an alright coach. But last night 23 scored 10 or 12 straight and then got parked in the corner for almost all of the second half. Taking a few shots in the 4th when the game was basically decided. With about a minute and a half to play and Nederland down by 3 they ran the clock down and looked for a 3 to tie. Up double digits on Ozen twice this year and up on central in the 4th. In close games the play calling was disappointing. I have my own reasons for being emotional about this loss and that's why I waited a day to post. But Nederland lost another game they shouldn't have this year.

And that is normally the case. 1 starter in maybe with a few bench players. Especially among the smaller schools that don't have a large bench. Some of the kids playing and scoring in these games it may be the most time they play all year or in some cases one of the only times they may play. Shoot 3's, dunk, and have fun. They may never have the opportunity to play after highschool.

Any news about a San Agustine Warm-up game I haven't been able to watch them and I'd love to check them out in case they don't meet up with Big Sandy.

Truth. I believe Kountze won the 3A state title as one of the smallest schools in 3-a before moving down and winning the 2-A title the following year. Victories over Midland Greenland in the 3A state championship and what I believe would've been a Colt McCoy let Jim Ned in the 2-A state title game. But you're right class matters alot more in football than basketball.

Just personally he leaves his starters on the bench to long. All season long excluding the Ozen and Central games Nederlands starters sit out almost a quarter and a half every game.

I meant no offense in 91 i wasn't even in elementary school yet. Thats why I asked the question lol. Just trying to gain some knowledge from the guys who have seen it all.

I believe the 02-03 kountze team played ozen lost and Ozen cancelled the game the following year if thats correct ? Sadly I'm young so that 2001 team I didn't get to see in person so ill take your word for it lol. But that 03-04 kountze team did play Houston Milby who was nationally ranked in the playoff warm up and lost by single digits if my memory is correct.

Since someone posted the topic of greatest coach I'm just curious the boards thoughts on the greatest team. Feel free to point me in the right direction if this has already been discussed. For me it was the 2003-2004 Kountze Lions. Keithan Hancock was unguardable that season even set the record for 3's in a game. They blew through district and until late in the playoffs won most games by 30-40 points. And as one of the smallest 3A's schools in the state I think they wont the state championship that year by about 25. Honorable mention the previous years Ozen Panthers. Just because Mr. Young was so fun to watch.

Central out played Nederland in both games. Atwood impressed me greatly. In the Ozen games Nederland up big in both and felt like they should've won them. I think that is why you see a bit more chatter in the Ozen threads. Not much you can say after losing by 30. Again that first game against Ned Atwood had a stretch in the 4th were he was un-guardable.

I hope to catch more of Coach Foster. And I like your outlook on things. We have a house up in near San Agustine I wonder if they play big sandy I'd like to catch that game I know they are both good teams. I'd like to watch another Big Sandy game this year. A few others out there i still need to catch before playoffs.

I have a prior relationship with a few coaches and again i think Davis is a good coach and this is getting blown out of proportion. I didn't like the way the HJ tournament was ran. I didn't like the way he acted and I don't plan on attending it next year. Feel free to do whatever you want. But when a coach in your tournament makes statements from the stands towards a kid and has a physical altercation with a fan I would probably have asked that coach to leave the tournament. I've seen it before. When every other team had 2 kids make all tournament except for 1 which clearly had one of the best players in the tournament skipped over I don't care for that. To get back on topic Sutherland GOAT And recently just because I've been able to watch them play the Gentleman coaching Big Sandy left a strong impression on me.

Again I sat in the stands like I do at every other highschool game I've ever attended in my life and had no issues. Nor did I personally have an issue with anyone at the tournament. So I didn't act out. And the confirmation I need is several of the coaches saying they have no plans on attending the tournament next year. Funnily enough the EC tournament was mentioned as the replacement.

He is a heck of a coach I was never criticizing his coaching ability. Put that tournament was poorly ran and Sutherland would of never allowed the tournament to be ran that way. It's not these players job to teach adults how to act, It's supposed to be the other way around. And the way the HJ tournament was run this past year was a failure. And Sutherland sets the finest example of how to act when it comes to his players. I will always respect that man for the athletes he has coached and the men many of the grew in to.

Sadly its just a personal opinion of him more than his coaching ability. I know hes a heck of a coach. But this was a guy I watched fist pump like tiger woods sinking a birdie putt on 18 at the masters when his team took a lead in a game and then in the tournament criticize a player for being emotional. That HJ tournament was a shame from the student body to the adults acting out. As well as some of the coaches who attended. I have no doubt he is a heck of a coach and I'm sure when the dust settles maybe I will feel differently. Either way I know how difficult it is to be playing in Feb and March & I'll be pulling for him and his team as well as any of the other local teams.
