Thanks. I will definitely tell my neighbor....
The myth of an athletic baseball scholarship. This is a pretty informative thread from a few years ago. Definitely recommended reading for anyone with kids that are getting recruited. [Hidden Content]
Believe it's been talked about, on here, several times. D1 programs have a total of 11.7 scholarships to give out. 70% of a full is about the max for a good recruit. Don't know of any fulls given recently. Would hav to really be a game changer to be offered a full. If your a good enough student, academically, they can sometimes work out more $$$.
The myth of a baseball scholarship.

Nederland had a starting offensive lineman go down in practice yesterday with a knee injury as is most likely out for the playoffs. MRI today, so hopefully it won't be as bad as first thought.
What grade is he in? Hate it if he is a senior. Will be believing it's nothing bad.
He's only a sophomore, but he has started every game I believe and has had a great season. -

I simply can't believe the UT's and Baylor's don't give Full offers
Not normally. The top is usually 70%.
Wow. So that explains why some look to go pro instead....especially if they are full time baseball players
Possibly. You can get to 100% with academic scholarships, etc... The pro scouts provide potential draftees with multi-page questionnaires. The gist of which is focused on your financial commitment to your family and your educational commitment. They have a real good idea about your signability before draft day.
You got that right...If you are projected to go in top half of the draft, the scouts know 'everything" about you. SummerCreekitis---It is also one reason you see kids go the JUCO route. You remain draft eligible each year. If you sign with a 4-year university, you must stay 3 years or be 21 to be draft eligible again.
Wow! I didn't know that....why in the world would they make you stay 3 years at a University?
It's the same way in football. D1 schools have 11.5 scholarships to divide up amongst the whole team, which is usually 20-25 players. JUCO schools have 25 scholarships so pretty much everyone gets a full ride. NCAA also has the 20 hour rule, where you can only practice and play games for 20 hours a week. In JUCO, baseball is your job and your whole life. I think it's crap that baseball only gets that many scholarships, and I've never heard an explanation that makes that much sense. Schools like Lamar benefit from taking local kids and just paying for their school while they live at home with their parents. Kids whose familes can't afford paying for their kid to go off to college are really only left with 2 choices-Juco or play at a local school. The best thing to tell kids is to STUDY and keep their grades up. All schools offer academic scholarships that can be combined with athletic to pay for all of their school.
