Here are a few post from people that follow this stuff pretty closely....
with Saturday's action winding down, here's how things look with 1 day of baseball to go.there are 27 of 33 at-large spots claimed. Leaving 6available among these 11 teams:#32 Maryland*#33 South Alabama* #34 St. John's* #38 UConn#40 Miami#41 McNeese#45 A&M#46 LaTech#50 Old Dominion#51 Gonzaga#53 San Diegothe first 3 teams are still playing in their conference tournament. South Alabama needs 1 win to earn the auto-bid. Both Maryland and St. John's have to win 2 games tomorrow for the auto-bid. A&M needs all three to win tomorrow and leave the at-large pool.if all 11 teams remain in the pool...I think A&M, St. John's, ODU, and Gonzaga are the top 4 at-large candidates in no particular order
----------------------------
there are a lot of factors at work among these 11 teams.-- St. John's, Gonzaga, and McNeese are the regular season champions of their leagues-- the Maryland AD is on the committee-- the committee chairman is from the West Coast conference...a plus for Gonzaga & San Diego-- Gonzaga may be the only team within bus distance of Corvallis, Oregon-- the NCAA is trying to spread the popularity of college baseball across the country. It would be a blow to the Northeast for both St. John's and UConn to be left out-- C-USA was the #6 RPI conference. The league is worthy of an at-large team...a plus for ODU and LaTech-- Miami has not missed regional play since the Nixon Administration
