The Sundevils lost 3-0 to the East Cobb Braves in the semi-finals.  They finished the week with an 8-1 record and tied for 3rd place out of 190+ teams.  Pretty good week for the Sundevils.  The 17U tourney starts tommorrow in East Cobb,Georgia.

7/5/2010 10:50:53 AM In a finish that was very similar to the Florida Bombers quarterfinal win over Southeastern Athletics, the Texas SunDevils scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to win a time limit shortened 7-6 game over the ABD Bulldogs. PH Derrian James, CF Jace Statum and SS Gavin Cecchini all had hits in the final inning, leading to a 1st and 3rd/2 outs, down by 1 run scenario with C Jacob Felts at the plate for the SunDevils.  Felts singled solidly to right field off the ABD second baseman's glove  and the throw from the ABD right fielder trying to get the lead runner sailed over the third baseman's head, allowing Cecchini to score the winning run. Cecchini, a 2012 grad who hits cleanup in the Texas lineup, also had a 2 run double in the first inning.

The Sundevils came frome behind to win 7-6.  The are playing in the semifinal now against the East Cobb Braves 17's. Texas Sundevils                        8 Homeplate Chilidogs 16u            1 The Sundevils are now 4-0 and play again at 6pm tonight in their last pool play game. 7/3/2010 8:04:58 AM RHP Trae Davis, a 2010 grad from Mexia (TX) HS, received lots of attention from scouts this spring but his 5-11, 200 lb build and a strong commitment to Baylor prevented him from being drafted in a signing round.  He pitched three innings back on Thursday as a tuneup for an anticipated playoff start for the Texas Sun Devils and struck out 6 hitters in 3 shutout innings of work.  Davis was up to 96 mph on his fastball, similar to the velocity he was touching this spring, and pounded the bottom half of the strike zone consistently.  He will have to develop his slider and change up over the next three years in college baseball but there is no question about his arm strength.  RHP Carson Baranik, a 2011 grad from Parkway HS in Bossier City, LA, pitched the first 4 innings for the Sun Devils in their 6-1 win over Team Connecticut, pitching between 86 and 90 on his fastball and showing a very good 75 mph curveball.
