  1. I’d never say, “Never,†but there’s a lot of history and emotion working against it.

Long ago, before most of you were born—and aren’t those words enough to turn you off—so why don’t we take a break so all disinterested parties can tune out.

OK, if anyone is still here: Back in the mid-1960’s Orange Stark was the big 4A school, 4A being what 5A is now. And this was back in the days of segregation. Bridge City was 3A (today’s 4A), West Orange was 2A (3A), Little Cypress and Mauriceville were separate schools, and Orangefield was Orangefield.

Stark had the size, but West Orange had the money. The Orange people wanted to tap into the money, and so they tried to push the idea of a big merger. Stark and West Orange for sure, plus Bridge City and Little Cypress. And maybe Orangefield.

When it was put to a vote, the people in Orange always approved it. The people in the other communities always voted it down by a huge margin. So Orange went to Plan B. They dissolved the Orange ISD, and forced the West Orange ISD to take them over. I think the court battles over that went on for years.

At the same time the integration process resulted in a lot of “White Flight†to the West Orange schools. And with West Orange ISD in control, the West Orange schools got the best of everything, and the Orange schools got the meager leftovers. There was a lot of bad blood between the two high schools.

In the late 1970’s economics finally forced a merger between West Orange and Stark, but there was still a lot of mutual animosity to overcome.

So don’t expect Bridge City, Orangefield and LC-M to go along with any merger with Orange. They’ve been fighting to maintain their independence for decades and are not going to just give it up.

very interesting, i never knew the parts about bridge city orangefield & lcm

  2. For as long as I can remember, LC-M has accepted WO-S rejects.  There is a reason they left WO-S and it usually means baggage or problems.  If they can play, they will stay there.  LC-M needs to change the entire mindset of the community.  It is tough to discipline there because this parent or that parent is friends with the Supt. or a board member and if you try to take care of an issue, you get a call.  The years that LC-M was successful, they had a great core group that worked very hard and understood how to win.  I think the expectation of the program is to be competitive and not have parent calls.  I don't know how many times I have heard that we produce good citizens here at LC-M.  If that is the measure of the football team, then don't get on the coach for going 3-7.  It all starts at the top and very few elementary teachers that move up the ladder in administration understand how improtant a successful football team is to a school, a town and a community.

pretty close to hitting the nail on the head with that one.  i would have to add that within the district as long as everything looks good on the outside, to the public, then all is well... ::)

  3. As far as the actual playing surface HJ has to be the worst.  Soccer pounds it so tight it's like playing on concrete in spots.  No grass on some areas of the scoreboard end also due to soccer.  Liberty runs a close second.  HF stands are horrible as are EC and Buna.

you are telling me that 6 months after soccer season ends, they can't have a field in shape?  grass seed...they sell it almost everwhere...

  4. mess with the bull, you get the horns!

GET READY FOR KIRBYVILLE IN 2A NEXT YEAR!

blah blah blah...the khs/nhs games were some of the most anticipated years ago....it would be great to see them face off again.  i'm sure barbay & co. are ready for the bull, it's horns & all of the other bull (from the other end)too....

just what were the stats from when nhs & khs played?  hhuummm? :o
