  1. Good win for Lumberton.  Tough losing the QB early with the knee injury but they were able to overcome it running a lot of wildcat packages with that load of a RB #23.  Passing game needs a lot of work as they will need to try to stretch the field to keep defenses honest.  Kirbyville had their safety’s 8-9 yards off the ball all night.  Lumberton capitalized on some turnovers which was good to see.  Defense played very well also.

Kirbyville is on the right track.  Very young team with talent.  Only 8 seniors on a team of 26 and a new system.  Their QB has a good arm and showed some poise at times.  They played hard and didn’t give up as I expected.  Coach Jones will have them competitive in district.  Playing this tough non-district schedule will help them.

  2. I look forward to seeing what Lumberton has this year(missed last week) but like what I am hearing  regarding that game.  I am ready to see what Coach Jones is doing to rebuild the program at Kville.  Having played for the man in the early-mid 90's during his first coaching job there I know just the coach they got and they will be competitive and will not quit.  It's not in his DNA to allow it.  I'm going with Lumberton in this one but won't put out a score prediction.  Lumberton can't take them lightly being a smaller school and must take care of the ball.  Kville will have to play a near perfect game to win though.  I am hoping on a rooting aspect that it's a good game for both as they both have something to prove after week 1 losses.

  3. Boy, this thread escalated quickly...

When did Newton become a bully?  I guess my comprehension skills are lacking as well.

WT is nothing but class.  The state of Texas got to find that out last year during his post game interview from the bench when they wont the title.  He's cut out of the same mold as Curtis was.

With coach Jones now at Kville he spoke of "stability" from the get go and has always been about accountability.  Several of us on this thread know this personally from playing for him in the past.  As I'e said many times he will have this team competitive and winning but will have to go through growing pains this year.

  4. Played football and baseball under Craig back in the mid 90's during his first tenure at Kville.  The man can flat out coach.  Period!  His resume in baseball speaks for itself as well.  Just research his career at PG and see for yourself.  An old school disciplinarian that loves the student athletes.  Could always get the best out of any player regardless of their talent level.  Many of my former teammates will tell you the same.  Heck, in 8th grade back in '94 he was our Jr High HC and had us running the spread.  At that time in small school especially he was way ahead of the game and it was tough for other teams to defend.  Extremely happy for Craig and wish him nothing but the best.  Will always hold the man in very high regard.  All I know is those boys better strap it on tight.  They're in for an awakening. lol

I hope Mrs.Horn and the other incoming board members nip this in the bud.  What a terrible hire this was in the first place. Who hires a super with a gag order in place against his previous school district???

Amen brother!  I am just worried about one of the other two elected.....

To Coach Bennett and the guys,

After all that has gone on in the last couple of weeks, nobody would have blamed you for folding up like a cheap tent.  But you guys managed to go farther than any other Kirbyville baseball team ever did.  Your community should be proud of you on so many levels.

    Great season, Wildcats.

Well said, WOSgrad!  Very proud of my hometown team that I played for 18-20 years ago.  Those boys showed what that town is made of with their grit and determination.  They gave CH all they could handle.  A very young team that has a bright future!
