  1. Asa played as a freshman, don't know if he's played since; but wasn't bad...
  2. Early predictions for this district?? It's going to be wild....Here's my take on the situation, in no particular order.... BC-Hicks is back and he's the most dominant pitcher in the district, after that they will be young on the hill; but Coach Landry will make an already talented baseball team that much better, until someone knocks them off they are the team to beat. HF-Lot's of returners, with experience on the mound...their X factor is now coaching in BC, so we'll see how this group of kids responds to the new coach; will challenge for one of the three playoff spots. OF-May have the most returners in the district (don't know exact #'s), finally will be playing with one of the older and more experienced teams in the district rather than the youngest, may have the best catcher in the district and a top 3 pitcher, Coach Bennett is scrappy and he will have his team ready to play; they will challenge for one of the three playoff spots. WOS-Will be much improved over the last few years. They are getting back to WOS baseball; Coach Rojas will have his group ready to play each night and they will upset the apple cart in some games, if they do it enough they will challenge for a playoff spot. HJ-Lost their top 3 pitchers and a bunch of offense, however the cupboard will not be bare and Coach Kirkland will have his team ready to play. They have made the playoffs the last 2 years and look to continue that streak. Silsbee-Like HJ, lost their top 2 pitchers; their X factor could be Skinner who when he's on, is good. Coach Trawhon graduated a bunch of kids last year, but he will have a young team that will take on his mentallity and they will scrap for everything they get. They have missed the playoffs by 1 game the last 2 years, and they would like to have a change of luck and the young kids will try to do just that. Bottom Line is it's a 10 game district schedule and anything can happen. 5 teams will compete for 2 playoff spots...So, in the words of a famous and controversial WR for the Cowboys...."GET YOUR POPCORN READY"...It's time for some baseball
  3. WO-S 4-0 HF 3-1 Silsbee 2-2 Orangefield 2-2 Bridge City 2-2 HJ 0-4 This Week OF/WOS BC/HF HJ/Silsbee
  4. Just got through watching the ceremony on tv, wow!!!!!!! This man is everything that encompasses how the game of baseball should be played and how a professional athlete should live his life off the field. In the days of steroids and performance enhancing drugs, he did it the right way. I grew up in Houston watching him in his early days, never knowing that my son would be watching him at the end of his career. I have always been and will always be an Astros fan.
  5. Thought it had been offered to Green? Is he still thinking about the decision?
  6. He has not made a decision 1 way or the other. Many things to consider, other than baseball, and it's not an easy decision. The man has built a program basically from the ground up and while the cupboard is not bare in Pirate land, it's not as full as in recent years; however, give it another 2 years and they'll be back. BC will compete, if not win the district championship, year in and year out and has a chance each year to get to Austin. Again, that's just the "baseball" stuff that he has to consider, much less the other things that go along with it (parents, administration, teaching load, will he get baseball kids on game days, etc.) The fear of the unknown often causes a lot of hesitation in anyones decision making. This is the man that BC wants, please respect him enough and let him make the decision that is in HIS best interest.
  7. Looks like he's growing roots under those feet....he's got those shades on, probably asleep underneath those shades....just joking, Dennis is one of the finest umps in the Beaumont chapter, congratulations Scat 69, still the best....
  8. Skills123 I do think I have pretty good knowledge of baseball and the Babe Ruth program and that program has spoken for its self for many years going to the world series and coming in 1st and second places most of the time more than I can say for Nederland High School Baseball that hasnt gotten past district in quite some time and seems to me that many of the players that are on the high school team have been on the world series teams. So evidently Nederland coach had talent he didnt use. Just maybe if he had Nederland would have made the playoffs. If i am correct Nederland hasnt made the playoffs since the first year that the new coach took over the team that the former coach had built.Maybe the school board or the ad needs to take a look at what kind of coach they picked for the Nederland baseball program. Oh i forgot this isnt football football comes 1st in Nederland!!!!!! First, Nederland made the playoffs (only losing 2 district games in the process) in the first 2 years of the new head coach, and as for the team that the "former coach had 'built" Coach Robbins only went undefeated in a very tough district his first year there with the same group of kids that the former coach didn't take to the playoffs. The last 2 years they have tied for 3rd place in a district that saw a significantly improved Vidor team. The coach doesn't control injuries, and other things that happen throughout the course of the year. Maybe some of you "baseball gurus" need to shut up and let the high school coaches do their job, or maybe you want the Nederland baseball staff to go to your work and throw rocks at you and bad mouth how you mow someones yard.
  9. Hart, who has only been caught stealing once in his high school career Gabe, Is this including Tuesday when Felts from OF threw him out also...
  10. I'm pretty sure that one of the criteria is to be on varsity and play...a Scoggins didn't show up on the roster as of last week...
  11. I had the honor of being around and coaching Ryan his first 2 years in HS, he is a true leader and humble young man. I wish him nothing but the best this year and in the future.
  12. Ron Polk said it best, "a liability in the field is an asset (ass set) on the bench."
  13. Liberty tournament games cancelled for today; schedule that we have as of now is tomorrows games: 12-OF vs. Liberty 3-OF vs. HF 6-HF vs. Liberty Don't hold me to it, its just what i was told....
  14. Orangefield scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game, Derrick Evans had a 3 run triple and Jace Statum had an RBI for the 4 runs in the inning.
  15. The return of a healthy Zach Peevey gives them a good 3 with others having spot roles.
  16. yes, this is true...got an email from G. Coit this past week and it was to that effect...no extension of the dugout, no sitting outside when your team is on defense....not going to be a problem at my park, some maybe but not mine...
  17. Coop, His talk was absolutely outstanding....He talked about teaching and coaching for about the first 30 minutes and then for about the last hour he took questions from the packed house that was attending..the questions mainly focused on his experiences in pro ball and things that we as coaches can teach our kids that we work with on a daily basis (pitching mechanics, workouts between starts, etc.) the whole thing was very informative, and was handled with the upmost professionalism and He was very cooperative.

  19. Don't think there hc/dc will be leaving anytime soon...He's been there now for about the last 22-25 years, first as the dc now as the hc and he's still calling the defenses....Katy is the real deal and this may be the best OVERALL Katy team in history, there's been better offenses or better defenses before, but never have they been this good together....Just my take as a KHS graduate
  20. Orangefield is hosting their own and going to Lumberton and Liberty. Teams in the Orangefield tourney are: OF, HF, Kirbyville, Silsbee, East Chambers, Deweyville, Lumberton, Bmt.Central, PA Memorial, Tyler All Saints.
