  1. i wonder how many people down in mansfield and south are gonna get busted on that possesion limit.......you know someones gonna miss that......
  2. Ireally think the only reason my dog didn't pounce on the poor feller was because he picked up on the fact that i didn't budge. I'm willing to bet if i had flinched it would have been curtains......He has gone after those thugg kids just for trying come in the driveway behind me at night.
  3. Trust me it was not easy to hold my cool, I know it wasn't me at all that kept me in that chair. It was mix of an angel holding me still and the fact he was so old. I was shaking so hard i had to unload my gun and walk around for a while after that.
  4. circle are required for red snapper........huh.....what the heck good is that gonna do if you cant properly release and pop their air bladder anyway.........they need to just make the limit at 12 inches or you have to keep the first 4 you catch, and build the texas great bearrier reef..........I can understand cicrle hooks for bill fish the majority of them are released in mostly a survivable condition.
  5. i forgot this part, my buddy finished the story on the other board..... CC02 didn't quite share the best part. He is sitting there taking the verbal lashing of the 60 something year old, being respectful, trying to talk but getting cut off, and finally apologized for something he knew he didn't do just to appease the feller and defuse the situation. The guy refuses to quit and keeps berating him, and finally CC02 states the obvious "Well sir, I'm not the idiot that sat down in the middle of the field right inbetween two levies that were loaded with dove hunters every 50 yards on opening day." Get this, the Yankee (real funny accent) goes to cussin and RAISES HIS GUN BUTT and takes several steps at CC02 as if he was gonna hit him with it. I don't know if it was the fact that CC02 didn't flinch, the 110 pound and very defensive dog sat up at his feet, I'm up and moving that way on his 6, or that his huntin partner was skedaddlin down the trail as quick as could be to not get pulled in... but somethin cause reason to go to his head and he stopped in his tracts, gun butt still raised, looked back to see me approaching quickly from behind, another from the front, and a Marine in the chair fixing to take that gun out of his hands and hit him with it. We were all getting peppered all morning by falling shot, just the nature of the game. How in the world he picked CC02 out of all of us to say that he shot him 5 separate times, I'll never know, but it sounds to me like he was getting peppered like the rest of us... only he wasn't smart enough to wear glasses and look down when you hear the shot start to fall. As close as he sat to us, and right in our line of fire, he would have been covered in welts at the very minimum if he took a direct hit.
  6. So were set up in our spot very early as usual to get the best shooting location. And just like freakin duck hunting right at daylight two barneys walk in talk to us for a second (note: they were aware of our position) and then proceed to walk straight into the field , kinda didn't think much about it then cus is was still overcast and not quite light enough. I figured the were headed to the other levee. well shot's start ringin and dove start to make a late but fashionable entrance and we suddenly realize these two idiots are 80yds from us and 30 ohter hunters lined up on the levee which makes a u shape around them. (for u military guys it was a perfect double envelopement formation.) So we keep hunting letting several birds fly due there proximity to the barney's.......and low and behold several hours later the man and his buddy are leaving proceed to accuse me of shooting him in the face. And if it would have been 2 inches higher it would have taken his eye out and he would have slapped a law suit on me.............NOTE: their are no redmarks on his face, no bleading of any sort, i am shooting 23/4 8's at 1400fps and he is at 80yds accusing me of a feild level shot directly in his face.......not once....not twice.....he claims five times.............and why does he wait until he leaves to say something...why didn't he move.......and i know i never took a field level shot.....I let birds pass........I was shaking i was so pissed.......
  7. so yall headed out past the lumps then? Heck yeah yft on poppers don't get any funner........like strapping on lightning bolt. Any good size to yft's? wheres the dern pics man........Ya'll ever go out for swordfish?
  8. Naaa i've seen more around winnie and china. Birds are always better out there.
  9. you got that right.......I was in a boat out in jacks pocket when this happened and buddy you couldn't get low enough. The rain water in floor didn't help any either.
  10. you go out of freeport or venice? I guess here local 100 miles is a long run for venice. Glad to hear someone has some sashimi on the plate, I'M CRAVIN'.........Were ya'll at Gunnison, Boomvang, Transocean Amirante, Nansen???? All chunkin or any on poppers? anyone using butterfly jigs?
  11. I heard the dove are all in that tract right off of HWY 90 just outside of liberty, and not many people hunt there. Also heard the property around china was holding the most birds.
  12. your talking about the land just outside of liberty right?
  13. They are here, at least this bunch anyway. they migrate in and out so fast you never know which group is which. I have seen decent groups in all my Hunting spots and a whole bunch down where i normally hunt the opener. I haven't decided where i'm hunting yet . But their not hard to find if you SCOUT.........
  14. not only that i could taste the metal fillings in my mouth......it was very erie.
  15. Now the dog has me, chompin at the bit.........I'll be sitting at my spot at 0-dark :30 to make sure i get it.
  16. Do you have a boat that will run shallow? If so you can hunt in the pace tract at the refuge but i wouldn't reccomend it for opening day, it's a zoo and the good spots will be taken by midnight. any other day is good though. There is plenty of public land to hunt .....ie... out in the bay it just takes scouting to know where the birds are and where there not. Note: anything that lies below the mean(average) tide line and can be accessed by boat through a public waterway is considered public hunting land. Any blinds you see built in this area are public to anyone first come first serve. That doesn't mean the builder of the blind won't have anything to say if your in it though. The teal tend to fly the shorelines of the bay. I'm not giving any more info. than that.
  17. I was the same way until 2 years ago the static electricity was so thick that my line was arching up and floating a lead head on the surface of the water. I had heard of that happening from a friend of mine but didn't think anything of it. Let me tell you when your hair stands up and lightning starts hitting close, it aint fun. I was having flasbacks of morter fire dropping too close.
  18. DANG...........well at least i walked away knowing i tried.............
  19. Went down to rollover yeaterday evening, as the refuge was shutdown due to controlled burns. Went out to the oyster reef on the bay side looking for tailing reds and instead found flounder busting bait in shin deep water. They were plum jumping out and doing flips. I made a quick limit and kept the 5 biggest all around 17-18 inches. the rest were all 15 -18". I was using a blurp shrimp, rust colored with a gamagatsu worm hook, free rigged and weedless. just bouncing accross and through the shell. Buddy when it dropped on top of the flounder they were acrobatic. It was a good time until the lightnin' showed up.
  20. "a place at the beech under some lights".............hmmmmmm......A Pier....Final answer. Glad to hear someone was catching em', now wheres the redfish?
  21. Not the weekend i was down there for the tournament he is down in the laguna just south of CC. Them suckers were schooled up but were hard pressed to hit anything it was weird.
  22. Ummmm....i would say the the german short hair.....less tangles to deal with. They come in handy when i'm jump shooting ducks that are sitting on the water.
  23. Actually i do......depending on the source. Theres always something to learn, and that goes for anything. I know one thing i need some pointers for my shooting this year. I just went to another skeet shoot yesterday and it was horrible. I shot worse than the shootout. I need to get about 2 cases of shells and 5 casses of skeet and just shoot till there gone. I'm not setting my gun properly on my shoulder and it's throwing my line of sight off. I think i'm gonna go out to a field and just sit there leading birds until i get back to setting it right.
  24. this was posted on the other site, your opinion matters and tpwd is listening. Topic: Feed Back Needed on Goose Seasons Posted: 20 August 2007 at 2:20pm We have received a lot of comments on the goose season structure regarding dark geese in the Eastern Zone. With the different days allowed for different species of geese (i.e. light geese and canada geese 107 days, white-fronted geese 72 days) and duck (74 days designed for a split season) seasons that are shorter than goose seasons, having all seasons run concurrent is extremely difficult. Currently we have an 86 day canada and snow goose season that runs concurrent with duck season. Many have commented that whitefront season should be delayed 2 weeks so that all goose seasons and duck season close on the same day. This would mean that the canada and snow goose season would be different openings than the whitefronts. We have always strived to have seasons open when birds are available and the migration chronology data for whitefronts indicate more birds are on the coast in November than January, thus we have always opened them concurrent with the duck season. Our commission would likely frown on choosing a season structure that does not take advantage of peak abundances. So, with all this being said the options that we currently have are leave it as is with a season-within-a-season on dark geese with whitefronts closing 2 weeks earlier or 86 days and 1 whitefront. If an 86 day 1 whitefront season were selected then we could have all goose seasons open the same time, run concurrent with the duck season and all close the same day. Thoughts on a one bird bag? Thanks! Kevin
