Ned has been whipping Vidor forever. Imo, the record is so lopsided due to two things. 1- The first 30+ years by superior coaching, which made, 2- Tradition. Tradition creates a we'll win mindset, plus very few kids in sub varsity leave the program. When my son played 9th grade in early 80's at Vidor, we had two teams (Vikes & Bucs). He was smallest on the line for either. Bucs undefeated and Vikes only two losses to Bucs. When he was a senior, all those huge kids didn't play anymore, and he was the biggest on the line. Doubt that happens much at tradition rich schools like Ned, PNG, or WOS. Excuses? I have none. Just want to enjoy a rare, hard fought, victory over an always good Nederland team.

I want you to know, I was sure you got them from somewhere. I knew you wouldn't intentionally post false info, even being a scandalous Ned fan
-
PA News has penalties: Ned 6-51 and Vidor 9-80. That's a little more realistic, but I wouldn't bet the house on it, since you counted 12 in TVC post (I put more stock in TVC than any reporter).

I'm a very happy "ex" Pirate, as is my son (lives in Porter), who for the first time, in a long time, listened to the game. He's planning on taking his boys to watch the Pirates in the playoffs. Depending on when (primarily when Rebs play), I'll go with him. Last time, got to see Crosby and Angleton.

Partly due to this game, I'm over my GB allotment for the month, but I wanted to go back and check TVC's postings (again, excellent job TVC). Thanks for doing so, and confirming what I thought. The Enterprise use to publish the Stats. Would be great if they put them on line like the Htn Chronicle does. Looking forward to seeing something relatively official/accurate. Wonder where Bigdog got those figures from? Wherever, it's probably an error. Not unusual for 2 teams to have the same number of penalties, but both teams having the same number of penalties, and exactly 61 yards, is a stretch. I'm thinking Ned had 6 for 61 yards and Vidor had ?? for ??? Yards.

I got WOS easily. Whether they'll get their usual 50 points, or shutout Kennedale, is up for discussion.
-
Congrats to the Sharks. Glad to see fellow district teams win (even though it cost me a pickum lol).

Didn't go to the game so I can't comment on the flags last night. I did go to the JV game in Hemphill Thursday (Evadale won 12-0). The Hornet JV had quite a few penalties and fumbles. Essentially shooting themselves in the foot. I remember thinking how much potential they had. In fairness, Evadale had a couple, it was JV.

If you're referring to my reference to the run, I was merely pointing out that even though the Stats show each team gettin 61 yards in penalties, some penalties are "bigger" than others. Not whether the call was valid or not. I was in my recliner depending on TVC and other posters - punching refresh, and using up my precious Gb's.

Good point NedKCMO. Didn't think of that. I realize some Ned fans are upset. Close game, and Ned not use to losing. Everyone talking about the 35 years, but other than GCM, not anyone in our Dist been putting any whippings on Ned for a while, at home or away. An added reason for the Pirate fans to be elated. And kudos to the Ned fans, like you, who did the right (difficult) thing. Congratulate Vidor, no strings attached. Best of luck to the Bulldogs for the rest of the season.
-
Yea buddy, absolutely.

No reason too that I know of. The Ned player is doing what he has too to protect his QB. My son played offensive tackle. Did he ever hold? Yes, but didn't get flagged. Doubt there's few OL that haven't held. This is not a reflection on the Ned player, but on the officiating. And once my wife said, Oh no, our son held that guy, and I replied, "If there is no flag, it's not holding".
-
That's not holding. That's assault and battery Guess the refs missed that.
-
bigdog posted them. No idea where he got them. Wish someone could get another list to verify.

I've anticipated this game being a problem for Vidor since the Central game. For the very reasons you pointed out, that Ltown defense has stopped Vidor the last few years. As pointed out above, Vidor better focus.
-
I'd lost a bet on Vidor's six penalties. Seem like they had 6 on Ned's last drive in regulation lol. I do think, and may be wrong again, that the yards those 6 penalties cost Vidor were a whole lot more than Ned's 6 penalties. The 70+ yard run for instance. Regardless of all that, I repeatedly posted it was going to be close (first projection I've got right this year, lol). But I doubt many could have foresaw the Hollywood finish - a thriller film for Vidor, a horror film for Nederland. Folks who were fortunate enough to see this game, will remember it for a long time. Hats off to both teams, coaching staffs, and schools.

It shows, and you're better for it

A great poem by prepballfan He must be a heckuva man Rather than fighting a fire He raised the Nederland ire And now in Nederland, he's ban
-
Great poem prepballfan. Maybe a little off on the iambic pentameter (whatever that is), but you hit the high spots of one great, classic, Tx HS football game. Most Ned fans can't appreciate it, and I understand that, but most everyone else will.

One day this week, I read where it was, "Talk like a Pirate day". Based on the picks on this forum, the Deweyville Pirates were the underdog, and they won. Against Nederland, the Vidor Pirates are always the underdog, and they won. Congrats to Deweyville. Might be something to these stupid "Days". Just saying..........

How's everybody's Week-5 pickems doing?
Hagar replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
I've missed Hull Daisetta all 5 games. Is that a record on the Forum? -
That's the final, per tailgate party

I almost jumped out of my recliner, but stopped myself just in time. On the Power I, super great call.
