Sacks jammed with no outs after a walk, double, and an intentional pass. Skinner at plate. Time to get greedy!!
not greedy just survival...can use all the runs we can get.

Lamar not messing around with UIW in early innings jumps to a 6-0 lead in top of first.

Lamar v. The Word at 9 tomorrow morning.
Winner of this game will then need to beat McNeese twice to reach the championship game.

4 games to go counting the championship game if they can reach the finals. It's HOT and Skinner (catcher) started cramping in the 7th or 8th. Will be interesting to see if he is behind the plate for both tomorrow if they can keep winning.
These tournaments can be odd when you can potentially play 6 games in 4 days after never playing more than 5 in a 7 day period during the season. Go Birds.
Truly do like the 2 site 4 team set up before a best of 3 series the following week for the 2 winners. Glad to see the conference return to that format.
Are they going back to that format? When?
It is a better format in that it rewards the two highest seeds during the season with home field advantage during the first week and then the top remaining seed gets it for the championship game.
This year SE LA is the team with the biggest benefit because the entire tournament was scheduled for their home diamond.

I was fretting at the early lost opportunities...we had 5 hits and 6 walks but only 2 runs at that point. Then I was hoping the pitching was going to hold up but it didn't either.
So yes now it would take 5 straight victories to win the tournament.

LU and UIW at noon Wednesday. McNeese and Northwestern kick off tournament at 9. This group of 4 is Lamar's side of the bracket.
We are 7-2 against our side of the bracket including 3-0 against UIW. We are 7-5 against the other side of the bracket.
Not sure who I would rather play if we make it to the championship game BUT likewise glad we are not opening against Southeast LA on their home field.

I will let Southland figure it this year on the tiebreaker. I think it was the WAC I did the spreadsheet on a few years ago in a complicated situation.
Top of the 5th it is early but McNeese lead Nicholls 9-3.
Other than falling into the 1,4,5,8 or 2,3,6,7 part of the bracket the seeding probably doesn't help a whole lot toward winning the championship. Again, it will be who plays well next week. Already happened to McNeese on the women's softball...lost 2 conference games all year then eliminated in the tournament and missed the NCAA tournament.
I guess we will chat next week and maybe a little on the other message boards but always appreciate all the inputs.
Still looking good 10-3 in the 9th

Nicholls as you all likely know must lose to McNeese tomorrow for Lamar to be the out right conference champion. That is what most of us want to see.
With that said here's an odd scenario that could happen. There are 3 games left in conference play as Northwestern is playing out of conference and 2 of the 4 series are complete. The aforementioned Nicholls vs McNeese and 2 games in the UIW and HCU series are left to play. If Nicholls wins and UIW spilts with HCU there will be a 4 way tie for 5th. McNeese, Southeastern. Corpus, and UIW would all sit at 10-14. No idea on the conference tie breaker for tournament seeds.
Truly wish the conference had a better website that already stated this as well as the tiebreaker scenario.
It has been one fun season and see you all in Hammond Wednesday. Well, some of you. Go Cards!!
Uncle Spidey...you da man!!! Snakehead, thanks for the updates. Everyone else, have a great summer and enjoy what's left of the college baseball season.

Giving away 2 alcohol beverages to teachers today. No, I am not joking.
My uncle used to say need that alcohol to get the crowd all fired up.
Anyway, good start for Lamar today. Hopefully hold on and win this final home conference game.

Tomorrow's rubber match has been moved up by 1 hour. Thus, game time is noon tomorrow.
Maintain 2 game lead on Nicholls and 3 games on New Orleans.
Sure hope they got their weather timing accurate for Sunday because they have been off all week. Thought they might do doubleheader today. Saw lightning outside earlier.

Lamar with a bad loss 6-3. Leading 3-0 going into the bottom of the 9th give up six runs. Not sure why he left Austin Neal in to pitch after already a HBP and two walks.
Caple with another 7 innings of scoreless work wasted.
-
Well the top of 9th was a little hairy but Lamar hangs on to win 2-1 over SLU. Our pitchers have really had to earn their wins.
-
Well how bout that. Aided by an error, Lamar scores two runs with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to pull off a 4-3 victory.
Really needed this win and this series being at home.
-
Well Lamar wins 1-0. Combined no hitter. Ellis only allowed one walk through 9 and Neal with one walk in two innings of relief.
-
if they waste this pitching effort....bottom of 11th as I post

Birds and Kats in a midweek contest shortly.
SLC has on occasion sent 2 teams to the NCAA tourney. Long odds with the conference's present strength. However, IF LU can sustain this run, for the first time in years, midweek games may actually matter.
EARLY to project such, but keep winning and.. ...
Yes, I base part of it on SOS and part on reputation of them and the conference.
Lamar is actually ranked 35th in the USA Today coaches poll so a few people are noticing them.
-
Well we have to get there first before we can get a seed. Lose the conference tournament and we will be out again. 4 out of our next 5 conference series are at home.

Cards knock off #25 Sooners 12-10. Ugly game with 6 combined errors.
i fell asleep during the game and woke up and they were still playing in the 9th inning. oh well, a W is a W.

Lamar wins today 11-9 and sweeps the series. Relief pitching gave up six runs in the sixth inning.
On to Houston and then Oklahoma for a three game series.
Maybe Big Puma snuck in a few ABs of his own to help the HCU offense.
-
little tougher but Lamar takes game two 6-4

LU takes game 1 with an 8-1 score. LU brought a pretty decent fan base to Houston today. It appears they out number the HCU fans.
You part of that fan base? 1-0 game two. Pitching continues to do well.
Back in Houston Tuesday for U of H.

Yes, for sure the bats need to keep rolling. I don't know if either McNeese or Nicholls has one of their better pitchers "stashed" back to pitch in these games. Not sure either how we will go about using our staff. These tournament series often end up in a game similar to last night when all the pitching has been used up.
Reminds me of game 5 of the 2017 World Series when Houston beat Los Angeles 13-12 in ten innings.
