  1. 7-1 final. East Bernard

Guess that justifies the district already letting school out early next Thursday and Friday.

Glad they made it after everything it seems the team has had to go through this year. Saw tonight Natalia had signs saying "Small Town Talent vs. Big City Transfers" and Devine News wrote on twitter "5A transfer Samantha Show, 4A transfer Fortenberry & East Bernard headed to state". It's beating a dead horse. The families wanted to move to a small town that was good in academics.
  2. Do you want to know the secret to success in Aledo? We all played together and ran the same plays the high school team does since we were in kindergarten... It has absolutely nothing to do with how talented our players are. We are always undersized but we play so well as a team from the years and years of chemistry and trusting each other in football situations.

Funny thing about that. Buchanan actually told my father back around 2004 it was best to not play until 7th grade because he didn't want the players learning bad technique. Also the ones in high school now didn't run this system in youth league. Aledo switched to the spread 5 years ago

As for seventh graders not playing I may be a little since my eight grade year I was playing with 6th and 7th graders going against 6th, 7th, and 8th graders all on the same team. Of course six man is a little different when it comes to worrying about injuries with head shots still being legal and all. Just tape it up and put us back in the game.
  3. Explain then how it's possible for a school the size of LCM to have 4 sub varsity teams plus 50 on varsity. Southeast Texas doesn't seem to have a problem enrollment wise but participation wise. I admit to being bias towards Fort Worth and west Texas but up there 70-80% of the guys play football and by the time they are seniors at the good programs it still is at least 40%. My seventh grade year 120 out of 145 guys played football. My senior year there still were 45-50 plus underclassmen. Constant participation is fueling these schools and it just doesn't seem that Southeast Texas has the amount willing to play to keep up.

Another issue in the larger classifications is the amount of money spent on football both at a school level and in private lessons. Lake Travis, Katy and the DFW suburbs spend money on football than others schools spend on teaching. Many have 4-5 sub varsity and around 15-20 coaches. Individually most of these students pick one sport entering high school and then have private coaches because the parents can pay for that.

Not trying to bash anyone that's just my take on things having lived all over the state.
  4. You are indeed envious of his success at Carroll, nothing could be more obvious!!!

It's obvious how cause I'm from there and had friends play other sports for Carroll? Fort Worth and Dallas are the biggest cities in the country for high school football. The money spent there is second to none. Carroll during that time had talent and a system different from the norm. Dodge did win there other coaches would have one as well maybe not four championships but they would be there. Dodge will do okay but he is not going to come in and win like he did there. At Westlake he will probably do better than at Marble Falls but don't expect another Lake Travis. Dodge just is not the savior that every one seems to think. He'll probably go about 2-3 rounds deep but with his average stay of two years it's hard to tell.

As for being envious I'll take my Aledo and sixman schools any day over being in a mega school.
  5. A good coach can create talent. Does that mean he will win? Not always just like a bad coach with lots of talent will win sometimes. I think once a team makes the playoffs that is where the difference in coaching will make all the difference. Small schools may be the best example of a team with less talent being able to win because a good coach knows what works to get the most out of his team on a yearly basis.
  6. Huhh!! Boy howdy did he win at SLC.  You must be some bitter fan/former player at a school that was soundly and consistently thumped by Carroll!!!

Actually no never had anything to do with or against Carroll just lived around Fort Worth for most of my life. He did win at Carroll but even then have they won since he left? Did they win before him?

Outside of the 7 years where at Carroll, including the last five he went 79-1 his record has been:  at Yoe in two years 3-7 then 5-5; Newman Smith 4-6 then 5-5; Fossil Ridge 2-7 then 5-5.

His talent pool at Carroll will not be matched. Westlake is not Carroll and will never be and for people to think that Westlake can match what Carroll can offer are crazy. How many other schools have an indoor facility so great that NFL teams ask to use it? Can he coach qbs yes, but he is not the coach that people believed him to be. Going to North Texas was good for money but it was an experiment that ended badly.

  7. I don't see him winning anywhere. Carroll won before him and after him. During his time look at all the sons if cowboy and ranger players he had and the private coaches they used. Carroll is just like Lake Travis no matter what coach is there they will win with all the emphasis and money spent on the team. Not saying Dodge isn't a good coach just don't think he is the coach Carroll made him out to be.
  8. I misread that and edited my response. If you look it it still doesn't say runs against who. You can not assume it's for teams involved just because that would make sense. The SLC tiebreaker in women's basketball throws out head to head. Instead it's record vs top seed first and works it's way down until the tie is broken. I don't like that but it's very clear in tie breaking procedures

I just don't understand how it's not clear. The first sentence sets the precedent "between teams involved." And yes there should be no playoff but there is and that is extremely unfortunate for Lumberton since the rules state they should be in.
  9. It says points scored. Not against what teams. That is very unclear.

The first sentence reads between the three teams involved. That defines the tiebreaks as between the three teams. If it was for the whole district it would have added in the sentence "runs scored throughout district" instead it bases it on the first sentence which is between the teams involved.
  10. Actually the rule was very unclear. It did not say if the runs scored tiebreaker was vs teams involved in the tiebreaker or all district opponents. Poorly written rule that any coach would've protested. Also nothing in the rule said that one team would be dropped and the remaining teams would have a play-in from what I saw. It only had a way to decide the 4th place team or have a 3 team tournament.

The rule is as clear as ice. It states:

"The team with the best record among the games played with the 3 teams involved will be the 4th place team. If there is no clear winner, head to head, points scored, and points scored against will determine the 4th place team."

That sentence right there says that the first tiebreaker was head to head. They were all tied at 2-2. The second tiebreakers was points (runs) scored between the three. This rule means Lumberton is in. Yet PNGs coach thought she could find a loophole because it wasn't in plain enough English. PNG not making the play-in after the coach makes all the fuss is poetic justice.

  11. First off if the new coach could have asked that the rule be changed before the season not after when it hurts her team.

Secondly as for blowing teams out the DEC rules state the tiebreaks are between the three teams tied only not overall in district.

As for poetic justice it is the one who complained most is the one who ain't playin. That's justice. Lumberton was in the playoffs as of yesterday afternoon now they have to play a play in game all because one coach didn't like the rules.
  12. Sounds like Poetic Justice. The rules were clear that in a 3 way tie you go head to head first then runs scored then run differential all between just those 3 teams. The only ones it didn't seem clear to were the ones left out. PNG coach seems to be making the most fuss and fittingly they don't get in. The coaches last year agreed to the tiebreak rules. By the rules there should not even be a play in game. Lumberton should be in. They will now just have to go out and prove it on the field.
  13. The only game since the three peat began that had that old crazy feeling was when Johnathan Gray was a sophomore and we played Stephenville in cowboy stadium. Going into overtime, and it was the first year jerry world was open... Add in the 41k people and it was the best game I have ever been to.

Since I moved I haven't been to many but the only true passion games seem to be the playoff games against them, 2011 in the rain was awesome, and the first Lake Travis, when Lake Travis soaked their field to stop Gray.
  14. I have gone to every Aledo game for the past 17 years. Even when I had the flu, and other various issues. The drop in fans caring is due to the lack of competition... When you beat the crap out of every team you play people get bored and expect every game to be a win. There is a level of cockiness that everyone at the Aledo school, and fans in general seem to be carrying around... That is the main reason I don't want us ranked #1. Whenever we get ranked that high everyone in Aledo just automatically says, "We are going to win state easily this year." That level of over-confidence is horrible for the guys playing because it causes them to not try as hard, which is why we didn't beat Guyer 2 seasons ago.

That's exactly what I mean the passion from the majority of the fans isn't there. When I lived there before the three peat the games were crazy. Still remember the two day game and the game up in Wichita Falls coldest game I've been too but the fans were still there and cheering. Being #1 is a given but a loss is what they may just need
  15. You act like I didn't know that... I know that, but the defense is literally so tiny and none of them were starters except for J.D.

Didn't say you didn't know that just explaining why everyone expects them at the top. Truthfully in my opinion aledo losing to the California school would be good for everyone. Since 2008 the only true upset was Weatherford. Aledo needs a wake up call. aledo fans have turned. I remember going to the games when Aledo was the little fish but after the past five years it's like they don't care anymore. An upset may give them a reason to actually pay attention. I'm not saying you are like the rest but that's just my view. Until they lose they deserve to be at the top no matter who returns.
