  1. now come on Kelly. Please do not start with the beating of lumberton last year. We played you guys in a scrimmage, in fact it was only the second scrimmage for us and it was the first year we were all together -players and coaches. Yes you scored more than us , in a scrimmage. You guys were in mid-season form and we were just getting started. Kelly had a terrific year last year as did Lumberton ,only loosing three games all year. Leave it at that but please do not start in on that we beat Lumberton bc last time i checked a scrimmage doesnt mean anything on a win loss chart. Thanks and best of luck for the rest of the year to Kelly and all SE texas teams--except when they play us  :P

  2. If im not mistaken, in 94 we lost to Nederland pretty bad (forgot the score) in the final game of district play making us 2-3 in district, we beat Lincoln and Bridge City that year  ???. The next year we beat nederland at our place 19-8 to finish the year 8-2 and 3-2 (loosing only to WOS 34-10 and LCM 10-7) in district.**3rd place but only 2 teams made the playoffs**

    Fast forward to 2006---->we travel to Nederland and loose pretty bad. 2007...... lets just hope that history repeats itself this year when Nederland comes to Lumberton.

    and as to the best team in history of lumberton football, even with 91, 92, 2001 and our 95 team......Id have to go with the 2007 team. These kids deserve it!!! Playoffs or not they have my respect.

  4. Hello soccer fans,

      I am currently trying to round up information on previous years of soccer here at Lumberton HS. I am in need of yearly records, former all-district selections and MVP selections too. I am trying to put together school records and an overall record for the program. Things i do know as of now---

    * 15 staright years of playoff appearences (LHS soccer started in 1989)

    * 9 District Championships

    If you have any information about any of these topics please respond or you can visit our new soccer website at LHS at

    lumberton.tx.schoolwebpages.com/raidersoccer

    and use the contact form to contact me. I am new to the website business so please bare with me as many of the pages are under development. Thanks, Coach L

  5. Thank you for coming to my players defense dogbone. Scott poole is in my opinion the best freshmen soccer player in this area. Yes I may be a little biased since I do coach him but Scott has great vision and judgment to be a young player. I do not understand where you make an arguement that he only uses one foot and does not have good ball handling???? Youu critique Jsmitty bc he voted to have scott poole on the supergold team even though he saw him very little but yet you argue against him and the fact is you only saw scott in limited action as well. Scott was the strongest player on our defense this year that only allowed 26 goals to be scored on them all year. Might I add that several of the goals that were scored on us this year were scored when I was playing many of my JV players since the weather was not kind to us and we were not able to play many of our under level games. Now I do not say this to be disrespectful to any other teams nor coaches I am just staing the facts. If Scott Poole doesnt play where he does and HOW he does --Lumberton is not the District Champions. A player of that calliber desevres the right to be on a Supergold team.  Let me fill you in on a little bit of info on Scott Poole: vs. Central ---scored a goal 2 minutes after being moved to the front, and then continued to steal, clear, and deny Centrals great offense. Vs NED controlled a defense that only gave up 2 shots the entire game to your "better" freshmen from Nederland, we won all 3 games vs Nederland by the way and in all 3 Scott was a major factor behind those wins, vs PNG played great all though in the tourny he was still adjusting to playing stopper (afterall he is a striker). That is just the tip of the iceberg on Scott Poole. As a defender he was tied for the 11th place lead in scoring with of course the striker form Nederland - who has a great shot by the way. I have nominated him for the supergold team and i feel that Poole was one of the better defenders in SE Texas despite playing in his first year of high school soccer. Yes scott can improve on things but what high school player doesnt have room for improvement. What these kids dont need are people on these forums bad mouthing them and saying they should not be on the supergold team or win any other accolade. The topic asked who should be on, not who should be on. Lets put aside your negative statements, if you dont feel like a kid should be on your supergold list, put someone else there.

  7. OK i told myself that i would not get on this message board but i must finally come to the defense of my player.

    First,  how do you call a kid that has scored 32 goals and has had 27 assists Overated??????? I call that an accomplishment.

    Second, No Brent Waldrup didnt play a specatacular game against Central, but he played the role that I asked him to play.You see JCB as a coach sometimes you prepare for your opponents by throwing things at your opponent that they might now neccesarily be expecting. I asked Brent to be more of a decoy this game because i knew that Central was going to be keying on him. I didnt ask him to go out and try to score 5 goals, I knew that if central focused on him and he gave the ball up soon then his teammates would be able to get and take advantage of their scheme. As was the case because several times as soon as he touched the ball he had 2-3 players sinking to him besides the player already marking him. There were MANY times in the game that as soon as Brent touched the ball he had the attention of several Central defenders. Central shifted 9-10 players to defense when we were on the attacking side of the field. 9 Central vs 6 Raiders, so yes they were able to pay more attention to Brent. And because of this, other players were able to have outstanding games. Mark Brackin has  played Spectacular soccer this year game in and game out, scoring in all of the games he played in but 3. He was missing the first time we played Central and we were extremely gald he wasnt missing again. He played awesome.

    On the subject of dribbling, I do however remember Brent waldrup dribbling through the entire defense at Kelly and scoing a goal on a kick-off. Kelly is an outstanding team so i guess in your opinion then it must have been luck. I have been around soccer for 17 years and Brent is one of the most talented kids i have ever seen or had the privelege to play with. He is to the Lumberton soccer team what Kirby is to Kelly and  what Fernando is to Central. Nobody can deny that. All three of these players bring something special to the soccer field and someone would have to be either jealous or have a lack of soccer knowledge to argue that. I am sure throughout the course of a season that each one of these kids would not have played their best game, be it because they simply didnt perform well or because their coach asked them to serve the better interest of the team and have a different role. That does not in any way make any one of these kids Overated.

    I am very fortunate to be coaching on a team that is abundant in talent, desire, heart, discipline, and sheer determination. Brent Waldrup is but one of the players I have that are examples of this.
