  1. President Reagan, has remained popular as an antitax hero despite raising taxes eleven times over the course of his presidency, all in the name of fiscal responsibility.[22] Reagan ultimately raised taxes more times than he cut them.[23] According to Paul Krugman, "Over all, the 1982 tax increase undid about a third of the 1981 cut; as a share of GDP, the increase was substantially larger than Mr. Clinton's 1993 tax increase."[10] According to historian and domestic policy adviser Bruce Bartlett, Reagan's tax increases over the course of his presidency took back half of the 1981 tax cut.
  2. In 1981, Reagan significantly reduced the maximum tax rate, which affected the highest income earners, and lowered the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 50%; in 1986 he further reduced the rate to 28%.[15] The federal deficit under Reagan peaked at 6% of GDP in 1983, falling to 3.2% of GDP in 1987[16] and to 3.1% of GDP in his final budget.[17] The inflation-adjusted rate of growth in federal spending fell from 4% under Jimmy Carter to 2.5% under Ronald Reagan; however, federal deficit as percent of GDP was up throughout the Reagan presidency from 2.7% at the end of (and throughout) the Carter administration.[2][17] As a short-run strategy to reduce inflation and lower nominal interest rates, the U.S. borrowed both domestically and abroad to cover the Federal budget deficits, raising thenational debt from $997 billion to $2.85 trillion.[18]This led to the U.S. moving from the world's largest international creditor to the world's largest debtor nation.[19] Reagan described the new debt as the "greatest disappointment" of his presidency.[20]

  6. What is the Deficit? : The amount by which the government’s total budget outlays exceeds its total receipts for a fiscal year. â€”US Senate Budget Committee This year, FY 2014, the federal government in its budget estimated that the deficit will be $649 billion. Recent US Federal Deficit Numbers Obama Deficits FY 2015*: $564 billion FY 2014*: $649 billion FY 2013: $680 billion FY 2012: $1,087 billion FY 2011: $1,300 billion FY 2010: $1,294 billion Bush Deficits FY 2009†: $1,413 billion FY 2008: $458 billion FY 2007: $161 billion FY 2006: $248 billion FY 2005: $318 billion for more years click here Although the federal deficit is the amount each year by which federal outlays in the federal budget exceed federal receipts, the gross federal debt increases each year by substantially more than the amount of the deficit each year. That is because a substantial amount of federal borrowing is not counted in the budget. Note:
  7. when it pertains to President Obama yes, remember they vowed to make him a one term president.
  8. Lowering taxes on the rich does not help the economy. The "trickle down" theory is a bust.
  9. By the way only .4% of your tax dollars fund welfare programs.
  10. when clinton was president the capital gain tax was 20% and the economy boomed. When bush was president he lowered it to 15% and we see the impact that had; as well as, his other horrible policies. President obama raised it back to 20% and the economy is improving. History has shown that lowering taxes have a detrimental effect.
