  1. One Chance - I totally agree that PNG got the shaft. The tiebreaker rules are poorly written, as they are not explicit on the "points" scored being only among the tied teams or among all district games. (Also, who refers softball scores as "points").

More importantly, the district didn't even follow their own written rules by calling for a two team playoff! Where is that written?

Sounds like they partially used the poorly written tiebreaker (points scored) and interpreted this for the tied teams, then somehow decided on a 2 team playoffs. I would like to hear how they landed on that.

They should have done the right thing for 3 teams fighting for a single playoff berth and settle it on the field, with seeding based on run differential.

I feel bad for the PNG players and coaches.
  2. Where did you see 13 more honorable mention selections? The link above shows the 14 first teamers and 16 second teamers, but no honorable mention list. I agree with some of the previous posts that 30 is a lot and really dilutes the meaning of 1st and 2nd team selections. It would seem a number closer to 7-8 per team would be a better representation and the rest in the Honorable Mention category, but I understand this is a collective coaches' decision, and they can do what they want, it just seems very politicized. This should be an honor and not a participation award, and it should be ok if not all teams are represented.
  3. Congrats to the Lumberton 7th grade girls basketball team finishing with a perfect 10-0 record.

In district play the girls finished 7-0 and outscored their opponents 340-76, while pulling back from their pressure defense by halftime in most games.

The girls had great depth with all 10 players contributing and frequently mixing up the players on the court without missing a beat.

With the 8th graders also finishing undefeated for the 2nd straight year, Lumberton has a great pipeline of talent moving up to High School in the coming years.
