  1. My buddy got us tickets (or preregistered or something)!!! I can't wait!
  2. It wouldn't be very practical. The way they are set up now, they have the ability to field strong athletic teams while not being governed by typical transfer and zoning rules. They are having a great year this year, with a legit chance of going all the way. If Kelly were to go public, they'd get slaughtered. Think of all the players they'd lose to zoning and tranfser rules. They'd also probably be playing against 4a competition, which i feel would be a little too much for them this year, much less the year after they're depleted by going public. I think that Kelly is in the best place they can be right now. Why mess with a good thing? On a side note, i would like to see kelly play some of the big names in the lower classifications in the years to come (WOS, EC, maybe even a lumberton or nederland). That would be a lot of fun to watch.
  3. i definitely agree with both of the points highlighted in red. another plan that would work would be to suspend the player for the next four quarters after the hit. this way if someone pulls a cheap hit late in a game they're losing, they'll miss most of the next game as well, instead of just missing a few meaningless mop-up minutes. if they have a cheap shot in the first quarter, they'll miss the rest of the game plus the 1st quarter of their next game. I think if you are going to start ejecting for cheap and late hits, they should be reviewed on video by the officials. This will give them the opportunity to confirm the intent of the hit, and keep questionable calls from getting a player kicked out. This should be automatically reviewed upstairs without stopping the game, and if they player needs to be reinstated, they can do it after the next play. As for enforcing these rules in HS, i think it's very important to instill good values and clean play into our kids. The only thing i'd worry about would be a couple of hometown refs serving up home cooking and having the power to throw kids out on questionable late hits .
  4. Kenyon Spears was pretty salty back in the day at HJ. i was pretty young when i watched him play, but he was the real deal.
  5. Ohio State @ Michigan Kentucky @ Georgia West Virginia @ Cincinnati Boston College @ Clemson Oklahoma @ Texas Tech Mississippi St @ Arkansas Louisville @ South Florida Maryland @ Florida State
  6. i've been tempted to start reffing again, but i don't really like running much anymore
  7. the best team always wins most of the time . but no, the best team does not always win, although the team that plays the best usually does. this is kind of a tough issue to tackle. for instance, take when the cowboys played the bills awhile back. the cowboys are clearly the best team, but the bills were the best team that night, yet the cowboys still won. the best overall team won the game, but the best overall team for that night lost. anything can happen. just ask the michigan football team.
  8. not another one...
  9. this was crap... it's not indicative of most of the dayton fans...
  10. I pull for both of these teams when they aren't playing each other. I kind of hope Houston wins, and I kinda think NE might win. I'm going to be pretty happy no matter what happens.
  11. i'm not sure what was worse... your argument or your grammar. great game hawks!
  12. 25 teams in 5a? or spread out across the classifications?
  13. Yup, V's right about the weak district... i do believe they're being represented by a 3-7 team in the playoffs.
  14. the odds are very slim. both teams will have difficult roads to get there. i think the odds are much better that neither team makes it to the 4th round than that both teams do. that being said, i would LOVE to see a rematch, and i wish both teams the best of luck in making it that deep.
  15. finally, the voice of reason! if i could give you 25 karma points, i'd give you at least 5 ;D
  16. there's nothing wrong with not being as good as dayton. they're a great team. you guys have had a heck of a year, and ya'll upset dayton as well, but that doesn't mean that ya'll are the better team. i'd probably put ya'll at three. there is no doubt in my mind (or just about anyone elses) that dayton is the best 4a school in the area. just look at what they did to pn-g and nederland. ya'll have earned your fair share of respect this year. in fact, with them putting you at #2 in this poll, they're probably giving you a little too much respect. you have to realize that just because someone is praising another team, this doesn't mean that they are trying to disrespect your team. And as for Big Mo being on your side, i would say that dayton has the advantage there as well, with a 6 game winning streak, and having outscored nederland and png a combined 103-7 the last two weeks. Ya'll lost to pn-g, and put up about half of what dayton did to nederland during the last three weeks (and didn't exactly smoke LCM). Ya'll were the better team in week one, but right now, dayton is the better team. Just my opinion, but it's an opinion probably shared by a lot of people on here.
  17. Rematch! Who wins?
  18. Newton by three touchdowns...
  19. If the rules were changed at the last second, Dayton has a legit gripe. If they weren't then they don't. It's as simple as that. I'd like to know what the meeting was about before we weigh in on this issue anymore. Also, be careful what you say on here. The admins have already said that they'll give out warnings if you say the wrong things about the wrong people, and three warnings means you're off the site.
  20. i like to see my hawks do good!
  21. you guys have been impressing me all year. i've got nothing but respect for your team and coaching staff (and most of your fans). good luck in the playoffs.
  22. your best idea in a week, mr. maverick
  23. nobody is taking away from what ya'll did in district, but if ya'll keep coming with the whole "we finally made playoffs so we deserve to have rules changed for us" attitude, then people are going to stop being happy for ya'll and start rooting against ya'll. Remember the beginning of the season when some of the lumberton fans talked so much crap that virtually everyone else in the area was hoping you guys would lose? ya'll are heading down that path again. you guys may not care too much, but when it comes to the playoffs, the only greater thing than having your whole school behind you is having the whole area behind you. a few of you are working really hard to kill off the respect that many of us have developed for your school and your fans over the past several weeks. dayton got screwed here. you can put it off as crying or being sore losers, but that's just not the case. the thing that nobody from lumberton will admit is if the same thing had just happened to ya'll, there would already have been five threads on here about it, and i have a feeling maverick would be the biggest "crybaby" of them all . And i would agree with you if that happened. This whole thing is out of our hands, though. Nothing dayton fans can say will change it back, and nothing lumberton fans can say will make it fair. I do believe that most of the people on here have been giving lumberton the due credit that they've earned. It'd be nice for some of the lumberton fans who've been posting on this thread to acknowledge the fact that, whether or not they agree with the old rule, it was very unfair to change it at this point of the season.
  24. he chose lamar over duke? duke must not have been trying too hard. of course, the fact that they were interested at all means he's must be a hell of a player.
