he did apply for several jobs... must want to give the 4A/5A gig a try... Will he keep the spread offense of Sam Harrell? what kind of defense?.. If he's making anywhere close to Harrell, that's a lot of reasons Kirbyville can't match..

haynes will be the classic second-guess if he plays as well at ou as most expect... texas just wouldn't offer... and the same scenario at ou db with joseph ibiloye of south garland ('09) and kacy rodgers of '10 from southlake who just committed to miami...texas didn't offer any of those guys...
but the flip side... you gotta love texas db commits for this year with lufkin's byndom, desoto's white and sulphur springs bryant jackson...

according to theoldcoach.com..
Steve Halpin has resigned as director of the Texas High School Coaches Association after resigning as head coach at Mesquite in May. Several sources have told www.theoldcoach.com that Halpin is seeking counseling for a gambling issue that led to him pawning school property to pay debts. All property taken from the MISD has been returned and accounted for... the site has a complete story

Waller named Jason Morley HC .. he's been OC to Jim Phillips for seven years and was QB coach 2 years before that.. Morley a SHHS BearKat grad... likely will keep most assistants... young guy will keep spread option offense... Phillips left for greenville after 18 years... got $85K... waller had some big names but didn't want to go the $80-85K rout.. keeps in the was isd thought was more acceptable range with morley, who could be quite the find or they'll be spending 90K in 4/5 years

Les Miles and his LSU football program are off to a unbelievable start to the 2009 recruiting year as Navasota, Texas athlete Dexter Pratt gave his verbal commitment Monday afternoon.
Pratt is LSU's ninth commitment and he is a big one at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds and is a member of the Rivals250.
"I just wanted to make the right decision and I thought LSU was the place I need to go," Pratt said. "The facilities set them apart from other schools."
LSU running backs coach Larry Porter is recruiting Pratt for the Tiger staff.
This past weekend, Pratt was on the LSU campus for an unofficial visit. Undoubtedly that visit sealed the deal for LSU.
As a junior, Pratt rushed for 2,054 yards on 218 carries with 20 touchdowns. He also showcased his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, snagging 12 passes for 365 yards and four scores.
Pratt chose LSU over scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Ole Miss and many others.

for background: the penalty for first test will be 30 days during the athlete's season.. so if they're positive now, they don't just miss a month in the spring...
for whatever it's worth... i worked a NIKE combine at Texas Stadium on March 8... 1,000 participants from Texas, Ark. Okla. Kansas... they all have to take off shirts to put on their NIKE shirt _ we're all just here for product placement _
I was with the kids for that whole process over 2 hours... on the eyeball test... there was only one player who had the over-obvious signs of steroids.. overly pumped, no neck and back and shoulder acne you wouldn't believe... not to say there was only 1 out of 1,000 but during that process but I just didn't think a lot of roids...
now if I go to a couple 7-11s on Friday night in Dallas and guess how many kids come in from 9 to 11 pm who are high.. I'll bet it's more than 1 out of 1,000
which is why the Federal government drug czar spoke at THSCA convention last year to say.. fine, do steroid testing, but money spent to test for street drugs is better spent on whole student body
