Nederland is fine.. They will hit their stride in district once Coach English gets his rotation set with the football players added in
I would bet you that most teams feel this way -

Speaking of pushing buttons, I see where RcsSports has Nederland as the underdog against (????) P.A. Memorial? -
IMO, the way these kids will be utilized depends largely on their learning curve, and their desire to wanting to be on the court. For starters, They all have to relearn the offense, which will take time. English's offense is very detailed and structured. If these kids want to play, then they need to put in extra hours with the kids who know the offense already. If their passion for basketball is the same as it is for FB, then they will spend the extra time towards their basketball skills physically AND mentally. Couron and Washington are a little beat up from FB, so they won't even practice until next week. Hopefully they at least attend practice and pay attention and learn their plays.
You make some very good points: " If these kids want to play, then they need to put in extra hours with the kids who know the offense already.

Looking back over this conversation, I'm not sure how this got so out of hand. I never saw anyone claim that the FB kids should not be allowed on the team. I believe they are desperately needed in order for us to make another deep playoff run. Regardless of what skill set 5on5 believes they have or Big Show or Brubaker or myself believes. What matters is what the coaches think. Last year, these guys played a big role in our success. If we play a BIG team, then Washington and Couron will be utilized more so than when we play a team like Silsbee. Kimler is more diverse, bc he's fast AND he plays physical (which we desperately need)! Kimler was a defensive specialist for most of last year, and he played limited minutes. When he asked Coach E. to move down to JV for 2nd half of district, he was able to work on his offensive and skill sets. He returned to Varsity for playoffs. If he has developed an outside shot since last season, he could be deadly. Did these players improved their basketball skills since last year, IMO yes, just not as much as the non-FB kids. Brubaker mentioned English's brother being good at both sports, but that was over 20 years ago when kids didn't play year round. Plus, he was more of an exception rather than the norm. In addition, since our FB team made a deep run this year, so those kids will have to put in extra time if they want to make a serious impact for the team. It can happen though: Just 2 years ago, D. Forney was our QB then starred on the BBall team. It took him about a month to get to where he was from previous year as it will take a while for these kids too. Hopefully they will work hard over the Christmas Break so they can be 'ready'. Bottom line: We need them in order to make another deep run!
Yes, bring the big guns in. Nothing wrong with that. They will be utilized.
Oh I gotcha Souljah, in other words Central got this over Nederland no matter who they bring to the gym that night ;) ;D -

Big Show, if all those football boys can do is rebound, why would they help. Evidently that don't count as basketball skills? Why would these football guys touch the floor if they have no basketball skills? There's a lot more to basketball than a pretty jumpshot...
IMO.. every good team needs role players... 1 of the 3 returning players has better basketball skills than the other 2 but you don't have to have great basketball skills to help your team win. This isn't a knock against any of the three boys, they are all good athletes. The truth is they don't put in the time over the summer to really improve there skills. IMO they help the team with there size and physical ability. They will play tough D and make you earn your baskets. They can also score under the goal as well. Dennis Rodman didn't have great basketball skills but he help his teams win!!!!!! How? Defense and rebounding............
Rodman was effective because he knew his strengths and used them to help define his role on the team. Rarity today. -
We have done good so far, with Couron Washington Kimler (Seay said coach is looking to move him up to varsity) all coming from football, they will add size and depth to the bench.
Move'em up! Go for it. Will get the experience and get better. -

It would be rough on them at first but i think they could adjust. ;D
The second group huh? Thanks! The other 20- 4-A teams will just need to tire out Nederland's 2nd group...... thanks for the scouting report ;) -
