Brenham is on a totally different level than any other team in this area, including Dayton, Nederland, PNG, Vidor etc etc etc...This game won't even be close.  If you've seen a team that makes it to the state finals then you know what I'm talking about, talent wise.  Brenham has that team AGAIN.  Ozen beat an overrated BH team IMO and is just a bump in the road for Brenham's run.  Don't get me wrong Ozen may have some studs but Brenham's whole team is full of Div I talent.  If Brenham does lose it won't be by a 20-4A team.
I thought this was one of the most interesting threads until I read this statement. Then I got really PO'd! But I swallowed my tongue for the good of the board knowing there is a reason the UIL mandated we play the games. Brenham pulled the same stunt they did last year. The read too many press clippings, looked ahead to the next week, and now, that next week will be the hardwood and an orange round ball. A little humility can go along way! Let me add, I'm not a Brenham hater. The good folks there have waited a long time for a championship that's more elusive than cortisone cream after a $2 trick. But hang in there folks, you'll get that ring in due time. PS: West is a great coach but I think he spends too much time trying to show everyone he's great versus making sound decisions to win. That fake field goal, I'm still shaking my head on that one.
Why are you skaing your head? Kid dropped the ball in the enzone and would have put them up. Sounds to me like you have axe to grind.
What axe? We have 5 championship flags in our stadium's end zone. If an axe were the case, I would have been more critical. And by the way, I have some friends in Brenham who feel the same way about that play. Now take some time, go reread the tone of my post and see what spurned me to write it in the first place.
How can you question the fake fg when the qb put the ball right in the basket of  number twenty four? Kid dropped ball plain and simple. PS I really care if you have a hundred flags bc you aint getting one this year.
You must have flunked government. See there's this document call the Constitution. Ever heard of it? Like I said on another thread, sounds like you got your PP hurt today. (personal pride). PS: Keep 'em coming 'cause I haven't laughed this much in some time!
Cougartino, that is why when I was in school, and in the LM dominance of the 90's that I became so respectful of the LM program and tradition.  However, maybe you need to re-word some of your posts in order for them to not sound as if you are a hater.  There is nothing wrong with being passionate about your alma mater, AND the program that you follow.  I am the same way, BUT I never knowingly down another school, or the personel associated with it publicly, unless someone comes at me sideways first.  I am always willing to crack my own family first, and I take my medicine if need be.  I do not think that was a TERRIBLE call on the fake field goal.  It depends on how you look at things.  Anyway, I do not take any of your takes on here personal, do not worry about that.  Trust me when I say that I know about your beloved championship flags.  BUT, AND PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS PERSONAL.  2002-Brenham-23 La Marque-16, and 2005-Brenham-41, La Marque-31!  SCOREBOARD!  Good luck against Ozen!  LOL!

La marque would have pulled off the win against them regardless. You can deny it all you want, but i guess we'll never know.  :P La marque vs Ozen will be an interesting game though, thats for sure. They have a great QB... But I doubt they will knock of this stellar team, JMO. If anyone can knock off La marque it will be Manvel.. Goodluck though, we all know anything can happen in the playoffs.
No man, I have not been sniffing any hi-lighters, glue, or anything of the such.  If you noticed from my other posts you would have saw that I gave full props to Ozen for taking care of their business yesterday.  I also pointed out that all of the attention brought to our program because of all the raw talent was not managed properly.  Overrated? They might have very well been.  When I said that Ozen could beat La Marque was not a shot at the La Marque program at all.  Myself, and everyone that follows high school ball has much respect for La Marque's program.  I was simply saying that Ozen is a legit team, with good coaching, and good players that have gotten it done.  La Marque probably SHOULD win on Saturday, but remember that Brenham was SUPPOSED to win yesterday.  You will not see me cracking on anyone from La Marque, Ozen, or Manvel.  Good luck to La Marque and Ozen this week.
Lol Don't take it personal man. I'm just saying La marque has the advantage in almost every category, Unlike brenham that got beat twice with the big pass. No team thus far as piled up more that 100+ yards on our Defense. And as far as passing against us.... I believe we've caught about 5 picks in the past 2 to 3 weeks of play. So yeah... But nothing person my man, all senseless chatter... until game day.  ;D
Oh, nothing personal taken from it....

BTW.........all that "D1" talent, #19 national ranking, and #3 state ranking means NOTHING when faith, heart, determination, talent, skill, and leadership all come together at once. Congrats on a great season though Brenham, but the Panthers are so hot right now!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
I love the PearOrchardPanther logo. Some of us are old enough to know where the Pear Orchard is. Mighty Pirate band looked a little like the great Panther band last night, did a little more than just marched. Lotta love from us here in Snuff Gulley.
Much love back robanadana!! Lets keep this Ozen/Vidor thing going. Feels much better this way!! :D Wish I coulda saw the Pirate band getting down. Maybe soembody filmed it?? I'd like to see that... ;)
Ozen does have good coaching....better than my Cubs did this day.  All of the mistakes with the bad snaps, and a big interception would have sealed a lot of teams doom, but the Ozen coaches kept on clicking.  There is no exuses to be made for having that many opportunities given to the Cubs and coming away empty handed.  Ozen, your band was awesome.  I think that all of the Brenham fans can attest to that.  Good luck the rest of the way....
 5. Unfortunately, many aspects of the media have brought all of that attention to this team over the last couple of years.  Attention that in my opinion that was not managed correctly by the powers at be.  This in turn is not fair to all of us true die hard, objective fans that are actually able to see the game inside of the game.  We realized at times during both of the last two seasons that something was NOT quite right.  It is all of those fans who pay the extra money to sit inside the 40 yard lines at Cub Stadium so that they can sit on their asses and see nothing but the final score that believe all that hype.    Do not get me wrong, this team had all of the potential to be there in the end, and I think we all know that.  I do not want to take anything away from Ozen's effort yesterday.  They did what they had to do to win, BUT they also did everything that should have beat them.  I do not want to point fingers at anyone, BUT there is no excuse for not capitalizing on 4 red zone possessions that resulted in 0 points.  My hats off to Ozen, AND their coaching staff for getting it done.
 6. No excuses.....out-coached! Bottom line....Good Luck Ozen!  You can beat La Marque...NO DOUBT!
 7. I gotta give it up for Ozen!  Solid team....should be a great second half.

 10.
I agree totally, with the previous post.  I am an Ozen supporter, but can give my unbiased assessment.  Many may disagree with this, but the truth is most of Ozen's losses were due to their own mistakes and not necessarily because the other team was better.  Of course a win is a win, and some of those mistakes came under the pressure of the other team's defense.  However, I've watched this team turn a corner so to speak, and confirm what fans have known for a while... that they are a much better team than their record suggests.  They are loaded with talent and potential and several weeks ago began to play together and do whatever it takes to win games.  After several disappointing seasons it has taken them time to learn how to win.  I think they now know that they can win and simply aren't afraid of any opponent.  It is common practice to look at a team's record and make a surface assessment, but this is not the same team that began the season in losing fashion.  Yes they needed help to get in the playoffs, but they also had to win to stay in the playoffs.  They were counted out by most against Barber's Hill and won.  They tremendous underdogs this week too, and think that makes conditions ripe for an upset.  I personally have not seen Brenham play, but have heard all the hype and Brenham supporters declare they've already won it all.  They look impressive on paper, but they still have to play the game Saturday.  I'm looking forward to a great one as I know that Ozen is capable of winning this game if they play like I know they can.  Brenham nor any other High School team is unbeatable(except maybe Katy  ;)LOL!).  Prayers for a safe, clean game, and traveling grace for players and fans! P.S.-  Let's go Panthers! ;D
Agreed, but TRUST ME, any fan who is posting on here with that attitude is just blowing hot air....
 11.

I'll say this.  I know it's a stretch, but I'll try to break down the similarities.  This Cub team reminds me of Nederland in a sense: 1. Strong defense (although Brenham is light years ahead of Big Ned (No disrespect intended)). 2. Medeocre Offense (again, see information from #1) 3. Great Coaching Now, this Cub teams, intagebles are they have raw talent all over the field. What Ozen has is an underrated Defense that makes stops when it counts.  They don't shut you down, but they have just enough athletes to give you heck at the end of games or on key possesions.  They have speed and size as well.  Ozen's offense can be explosive.  Best way to  handle them is to take them out is to get them out of sync early.  Maybe bring out the old Ozen where they make mistakes with snaps over the head and false starts.  Now, Ozen have not shown this tendancy in a while, so don't bank on this happening this late in the season.  Also, don't give Ozen's offense an incentive to get fired up.  Don't allow Ozen to find a chink in your armor.  Maybe a run to the left or a pass up the middle or an undecisive safety.  If so, you may have some problems.  They have the horses to  go  toe to toe with you.  They have a young emerging star at WR which is Texas a&M star Christine Michael's little brother that compliments their go to man Wideout Nelson, so Ozen won't be a slouch.  They will need a perfect game to hang around with you guys, but at the same time, you may want to put them away early.  if you don't and let them hang around, you're setting youself up for a long drive back to the Blue Bell ranch.
good post :)
Agreed, very good post.  I will be the first to tell you that I know nothing about Ozen football.  As a matter of fact the only thing I know about the school at all, is that they have knocked the Brenham basketball team out of the playoffs a couple of times.  These were years in which Brenham had a couple of it's deepest teams ever.  Anyway, the first thing that will stand out to a CASUAL fan is the fact that Ozen finished 5-5 in the regular season.  An average team at best, right?  Well, what I see when I look at their schedule is a team that started off the season with losses to two 5A playoff teams in West Brook and Memorial, and with the exception of the PNG game, was IN every one of the other losses.  I also noticed that they turned the ball over 5 times in that game against PNG.  I have seen all kind of posts about Barbers Hill, and how they went 9-1 in a soft district.  All that I have to say about that is that they beat Dayton.  And as a Brenham fan, I KNOW that Dayton is always a quality team.  My point is that Ozen found a way to get it done in the regular season, AND they found a way to get it done against BH.  That makes them legit....PERIOD.  You are right in saying that the Cubs need to put them away early, and run the clock.  Last week the Cubs had a 21-3 lead at the half and went on a 16 play, 94 yard drive(ALL RUNNING PLAYS), that consumed over 8 minutes of the third quarter.  If you get down 28-3, with 15 minutes against this team, GAME OVER!  IMO, in the playoffs defense, and ball control win games.  Coach West is not about running up the score, he is about running out the clock.  My only disagreement about the post is about Brenham's offense being mediocre.  The defense is definitely the "CROWN JEWEL", of this team, but I would have to say that the offense does a wonderful job in a supportive effort of the defense.  They don't make a lot of mistakes, and they run the clock.  I would categorize the offense as "GOOD".  Anyway, is it Saturday yet?

Lol, do you not see how many division 1 recruits are on that team?
Unfortunately, all of that D1 talent sometimes causes issues with the team effect.  In 2006 one of those recruits caused some loss of focus, and once again last year it happened.  I feel that the returning players on this team, as well as the coaching staff learned a valuable lesson from last year.  The focus is on the team aspect, and last year that was not the case.  I just love watching these guys play.
