'87, noticed a little animosity toward WO-S in some of your posts.  We know Navasota is the better team and proved it last night and probably would again tonite if they played.  I don't think WO-S defense was overated, the numbers don't lie.  Surely they haven't seen the likes of the "Rattlers but dont belittle a very good defense.  Maybe you're still smarting from that '86 beatdown, I don't know.
Hey, I was really expecting to see a better game than I did last night.  All of the hype that I have seen and heard over the past three months about this defense was quickly put to rest after about two series.  As far as being partial towards Navasota?  The Rattlers are the one team that I grew up "hating" because of the intense rivalry between the two teams.    Yeah, WOS did beat my team out in 1986, but that was 25 years ago.  WOS has always been a class organization, and I hold a great deal of respect for teams like that.  I just call it like I see it.  I apologize if it seems like I am hating on WOS.
Navasota is 3A and Brehnam is 4a. And that's great!
Actually, we haven't played since 2003/2004(?) I believe.  The final game was at the Astrodome as Navasota beat then a top ten Cub team.  Doesn't matter if we are 3A or 4A because we've always played Brenham dating back to the early 1900s.  And, Navasota and Brenhame weren't always in the same district.  I agree, It's a shame that two schools that are 20 minutes away with such history don't play each other.
You are correct Rattler!  The last time they played was in the dome in 2003.  That was the year after Brenham's state final loss to Denton Ryan.  I do not believe they were ranked though.  The Cubs lost everyone to graduation prior to that game, and Navasota kicked their butts!  That was the last year that Brenham did not make the playoffs.
Brenham doesn't want the loss. 6.
Nice job Navasota. Your offense was as advertised and I see nobody stopping the Rattlers on their way to the 3A-DII state title. Your offense moved the ball on a good defense, your size and speed overmatched the undersized WOS defense. The WOS offense helped your team out tremendously by gift wrapping turnovers on 90% of their possessions. Your team has very good athletes and I was impressed with your speed (I'm not easily impressed)...especially that #2, sorry I didn't get his name. I was involved in a different string all week and I toted our team as better than they actually were (of course, anybody would). Now that the Rattlers put a hurting on WOS, I will give you my true opinion. Warning: some Mustang fans will not like what I have to say...but it is unbiased. Also Note, I am a Mustang fan true and through...I bleed blue, but I am not delusional. No team can win a football game with as many turnovers as WOS had last night. Navasota, your defense is good. You suppressed a sub-par offense last night. There is no debate when I say WOS offense is awful, undersized, not very physical and they do not have the speed like our defense. Our QB is know for throwing interceptions and fumbling the ball...he did it last year and he did it this year. I'll give you credit for "forcing" the fumbles but the interceptions...he threw them right to Navasota players (like they were his receivers). So, for a lack-lus-ter offense to move the ball as well as they did I can't give your defense the nod (and yes they moved the ball on you quite well only loosing momentum due to turnovers). I could go on and on but I'm tired of typing and I have things to do this morning :) Again, good job Rattlers and good luck!
Good post for the most part.  You gotta remember that WOS made those mistakes because they were facing one hell of a good team.  The Navasota LB's were in that QB's back pocket all night.
 7.

I have not seen a team that good since Gilmer last won it. Dang it they are good and fun to watch.
I think Navasota's qb is every bit as good as Gilmer's qb was, and #2 is better than Manuel Johnson in my book.  The part that makes Navasota better than Gilmer was is defense.  Navasota is very solid on defense too.  Gilmer was good defensively, but not this good.  Great 3A team. They played better this week than last for sure.  LM was definitely a step up offensively than WO-S.  Defensively I think LM look pretty equal to WO-S defense. I would think #2 would be recruited by all the big players.  He is an amazing threat to score every time he has the ball.  The interception return he made was quiet a show of athleticism.
I disagree.  After hearing so much about the WOS defense all year, I feel that they are clearly overrated.  I think that La Marque is a better overall team than WOS.  La Marque was just so undisciplined and raw.  Navasota moved the ball at will against WOS last night, and La Marque slowed the Rattlers down a little more.
 8. Enough about the mistakes that WOS made.  I was at the game, and Navasota was CLEARLY the dominant team.  Navasota made their share of mistakes early too.  The difference is that Navasota took advantage of the WOS mistakes.  Good defensive teams force mistakes, and then take advantage.  I am not saying that WOS is not a good team.  They were just not in the same league as Navasota.  I noticed that Navasota's offensive line dominated that "vaunted" WOS defense all night.  The Navasota QB had all night to throw, and the line opened up some huge holes.  The Navasota defense is awesome too.  I do not see anyone beating Navasota.

 12. The fact of the matter is that these two teams do not know a whole lot about one another.  I saw Navasota/LM the other night, and I was impressed with the Rattlers.  They have a lot of talent, and seemed quite disciplined.  They did have some turnovers that will get them beat if the opposition does not return the favor as La Marque did.  I played against WOS in a playoff game in 1986 and Dan Hooks was already the head coach.  I can tell you straight up that they are an elite program.  Navasota will have their hands full on Friday night.  Good luck to both teams.

I think they are the kinda team that goes short then sets you up for the long bomb. I think they will run a lot of short outs, bubble screens, etc. to try to get our LBs back in coverage (and away from blitzing) and then try to run on us. I see them playing a little closer to the vest in this game (at first at least) and probably trying to run the ball more than usual. The very little tape I have seen on them they don't seem to want to go over the middle so much, I think they prefer outside stuff. It should be game of the year in 3A. IF we can match up man to man with our secondary and let out LB's apply heat to the QB we will win. IF we can't it probably swings the tide against us. Just the way I see it.
Ask La Marque how we beat them...  I am not sure were all this long bombs...scoring quickly, etc comes from... Any reasonable, right minded being will take what is given to them.. If the deep post is open, well, take it...  Or the screen, or the draw.. You get my point..  Fedora and crew will know exactly will work or what they believe will work against any team that they will face....
I was at the Navasota/La Marque game, and I will tell you straight up that Navasota was very patient offensively.  They used short and intermediate passes most of the night.  In the second half the running game was the difference.  I saw Navasota play for the first time on Friday night, and I feel that they are a well balanced team.  This will be a very good game.
 14. I was at the game tonight, and Navasota was clearly the better team on the field.  I thought that defensively, Navasota played very well.  The only thing that kept La Marque in the game was the legs of QB Mercer.  I think that La Marque has gotten swagger confused with being dirty and undisciplined.  That was ridiculous tonight.  I have to respect Navasota's ability to keep their composure and keep playing.  They are a well coached, and are going to be tough to beat.  Navasota and WOS should be a good one.
 15.
So is it for sure going to be in The Woodlands, Friday night? Do you think I should be concerned about it being sold out if I were to just show up at gametime looking for a ticket?
That stadium holds like 10,000 and is a nice venue.  You should have a seat....no problem.
 16. Im making the trip up I-45 for this one myself. Navasota-34 La Marque-14
 17. Good luck to Navasota from your old rivals down the road in Brenham.
Lol....  Well heck they outscored their last 3 opponents, 171-13.  That's enough to mak a lot of people nervous.  Our defense will do their part, as always though.  It's gonna be on the soph QB to lead this young team throught the playoffs. *Our QB won the job outright this year, but keep in mind that this is the playoffs, and he wasn't even the JV QB last year.  He went from starting QB of the freshman team last year to leading varsity into the playoffs.  He's about 5'9" or so and can't weigh more than 150lbs.  Hope he is ready.  If he gets in the weight room and works on arm strength he could be a game breaker in the next year or two.  Accuracy should get better with more reps and experience.  He MUST stay healthy or were probably done. @ Buddy- some tough district games.
I could not agree more.  This young man will HAVE to take this team on his shoulders, but at the same time use the weapons at his disposal(Darrion Johnson, K.D. Leakes and so ON).  I think he will be fine.....

I saw some film and they look like Manor in green jerseys. I think it's gonna be a great game.
I don't think you can say that the District is necessarily weak in comparison to others.  Their may be some average to poor teams, but the worst team in 18-4A could beat the bottom 3 in 19-4A all day long.  Huntsville is pretty solid on both sides of the ball.  They will try and establish the running game, but they can throw it too.  Their QB can take off running as well.  My problem with Huntsville is that they can't seem to play 4 quarters of football.  If they did, they would be tough to beat.  They usually start off slow and give up a TD in the 1st 3 minutes of the game before they realize that they actually have to play. They probably should have beaten Brenham but mistakes and turnovers generally appear at critical times.  Huntsville can certainly win this game, but it all comes down to making plays.
I believe this. ;D
Not sure if they would have beat us, but we only win by 3 instead of 10, or  maybe we see overtime.  We had fumbles also.  The thing is, we recovered all of ours and most of theirs.
Well, there was a bad center snap on a punt attempt that Brenham scored a TD on. Then the Cubs kicked a field goal two minutes later after the Huntsville QB fumbled.  And finally, after the Hornets fought back and took a 21-17 lead midway through the third quarter, Brenham recovers a fumble in the Huntsville end zone to give the Cubs the lead for good.  Just typical Huntsville errors (that Brenham doesn't do) that I had already predicted would happen before the game anyway.  Just sayin.
I would not go as far as to say that Brenham does not do those things (turnovers and penalties).  The turnovers killed us against Foster, and stalled a number of drives during the season.  The thing that really concerned me were all of the mental penalties against Huntsville in week 9.  Those are not the kind of things that you wanna see out of a team that late in the season.
