1. Cougar fans,  see ya'll tomorrow night. Hope we have a good safe game and better weather than the JV and Freshman had tonight. I would love to see a hard fought game with the Trojans winning by 1 on the last play.
 2. Not sure which way to go with this one. As a former Bellville Brahma I definitely don't want Sealy to win. But as a Trojan, I don't really want Cleveland to win either. Uhhh, who to cheer for?  Any chance it could end with both teams losing? I guess go Cleveland!!!
 3. This really has nothing to do with this thread, but anyone know why LaMarque's enrollment dropped so much in the last 2 years?

LM 21 to 34 CS 10
I'm pretty sure that Carthage in '10 and Wimberley in '11 have prepared CS offense for the LaMarque defense.  I know they weren't LaMarque, but both did win the state championship that year.  I bet the game against Navasota last week has also helped to prepare CS for LaMarque.  I am not saying LaMarque is not a good team, and may beat Coldspring by 20 points this week, but I bet the Trojans have seen as good of a team in the last 2 years.  I guess we have to wait till friday to find out.  I still think the Trojans win.
I understand your post, and I see the point your trying to make, but being a 22-3A fan who has watched Coldpsring over the years and I watched Carthage in 10' on tv and i actually went to the Coldspring vs Wimberley game and was going for Coldspring both games. Now that I've said that so you dont shoot me down so easily, I've also seen LaMarque, I saw them beat Ozen and I saw them lose to Manvel, and Wimberley in 11 was nothing compared to LaMarque on O or D. If i had to scale them 1-10 say LaMarque was a 9 then i'd mark Wimberley at a 5 and 2010 Carthage at 7, so with that being said I don't believe Coldspring has ever experienced a D that will prepare them for LaMarque.
I guess we will see on Friday.  But I still think Coldspring will pull out a win.  They are definitely going to have to change some things from what they did against Navasota, but we have a great coaching staff and they will have the boys ready.

CS defense is their strength but athlete for athlete LaMarque's got them, especially in size. They should be able to run on coldspring and they should be able to use their athletes to stop the cs rushing attack.
Galveston and Texas City looked pretty weak.  I think LaMarque is pretty good, but these two made them look better than they are.  I think the Trojans can hang with them, and pull out the victory.

 8. We lost a couple of key players to graduation, but as a whole this years team should be more experienced.  This team is loaded with seniors that have been deep in the playoffs twice. The biggest difference between this year and last is the pre-district schedule.  All 4A teams except for Navasota and LaMarque, who realistically could be the D1 and D2 3A state champions this year.  Last year's schedule was much easier, and turned out to be much easier than we expected.  Crockett and Kirbyville should have been our tough games last year and turned out to be less than expected.  This year is going to be tougher, but should be better preparation for the playoffs.  I know we shouldn't look too far ahead, but realistically Huffman should be the only real competition for the district championship, and then we go D2 in the playoffs.  Next week's game with LaMarque will mean more than Navasota.  There is a good chance we will see LaMarque again in the playoffs.  After talking to some of the coaches last night after the game I have a feeling the boys will be ready on Friday.  We have one of the best coaching staffs in the state (yes I am partial), but I have worked with several groups of coaches in SE Texas over the years, and I really believe this is one of the best staffs around.  Everyone better enjoy the CS loss this week, because there will not be many more opportunities for it this year.
 9.
Told yall....  Navasota is going to win it all.
I'm a believer. They definitely deserved the win last night.

Please do not let #2 touch the ball anymore. Put #15 on jv. Coldspring will get hammered next week if we play like the last 2.
I could be mistaken, but was the last CS predistrict loss to Kirbyville in 2010 in week Zero?  Could be wrong, but based on a couple post, that's what it seems like.  This is some kind of support.  Little harsh to be calling individuals and coaches out after losing to the number 2 team in the state in 3A.  Pretty high standards I guess over there.  Probably some for sale signs in the coaches yards too!
Kirbyville was the last predistrict loss.  Helped push the team harder and we later beat them in the playoffs and went on to Dallas.  Part of the problem is the last 2 years have been so successful that everyone is starting to expect teams to lay down.  When they don't roll over for us, the fans don't know how to respond.  We have some great fans, but there are some that hang their heads very quickly and start heading for the gate as soon as we start to lose. We have quite a few fair weather fans, and they are only there to watch the boys win.  I even heard one of the high school girls tell some CS people that were leaving early in the 4th quarter "don't come back when we start winning".
They lose one game to a very good navasota team and y'all go off screaming at the scheme barbay has had forever. Backside always cuts. Coldsprings has always cut like that.
I think they were referring to some of the blocks on the outside from pulling lineman.  There were a lot of missed blocks due to trying to cut block out in the open and flat out missing.  Losing to Navasota is not the end of the season.  They are a very good team, but CS played bad last night, and in my opinion Navasota was a more physical team, and wanted it more.  Of course in the words of an old Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach, "we didn't block well, but we made up for it by not tackling"
 12.
I was at the game and I was disgusted at what I saw. At what point did we forget how to tackle? And how to block?
Don't forget, they are still kids.  It certainly did not come down to just 2 players causing this loss.  If the Trojans are going to make it deep in the playoffs again #2 is going to have to not only touch the ball, but play a major roll in carrying the football and catching kicks.  The other two running backs #20 and #24 are too important to our defense to spend all night running the ball.  We had a bad night.  Navasota is a great team.  Forrest Gump said It Happens Sometimes.  This game was a good wake up call for everyone and we will see how they respond next week.  If we come out and put a whoopin on LaMarque everyone will think wonders of what the coaches have done in a week.  At some point it would be nice to get some sort of passing game going though.  On one play tonight our tight end #85 split out wide and was completely left alone before the snap and never covered.  He was waving wildly and the QB just didn't see him.  Could have walked into the end zone, and would have made the game 15-15.  Might have changed everything.  Next week will tell more of the story on what to expect in the middle to late rounds of the playoffs.  Good news is we shouldn't have to play Navasota again this year.
 13. Our pass defense will improve a bit when #3 comes back healthy. With him out tonight, it opened a hole.  Had to move the CB #4 over to safety to make up for #3 being out, and #4 was definitely missed out on the edge tonight.  He is a great corner back and very easily could have made a difference on a couple of long pass completions by Navasota.  Other than that, we have to block better and just execute.  We put the ball on the ground way too much tonight.  We were lucky to get a bunch back, but fumbled most of the kick offs or punts we got tonight.  Navasota definitely came ready to play and just flat gave us a good ole fashion butt whoopin.  I hate to see us lose, but this may be what we needed to get the kids minds right and make them work a little bit more to make sure it doesn't happen again.  The best thing that happened to us 2 years ago was Kirbyville beating us in pre-district.  After that the team seemed to work harder and pushed through to Dallas.  This is by no means the beginning of the end and the Trojans will be back.

 15.
Back to back weeks on the road against Navasota and La Marque? Kudos to Coach Barbay for having the testicular fortitude to do that!!!
It is more of a necessity than a choice.  Needed predistrict games, and our stadium is too small for their fans.  If we wanted to play, have to go to them.
 16. This discussion is crazy. Everyone is arguing over symantics.  It is like watching the democrats and republicans on television.  I said, I meant, you said, ughhhh. However, I was at every Coldspring game during the last two years, and without a doubt the only team in 22-3A that stood a chance was Huffman.  They made the Trojans work for the win.  Every other game in district was sad to watch, even as a Coldspring fan.  All of the other games were over by half time.  Please take this as my opinion, because I do not plan to defend it in the next 15 pages of this post. FYI - the season is almost here and we will have better things to talk about than last year soon. Good luck to all the teams in 22-3A.  See you in a few weeks.
that has to be the toughest pre-district schedule in the state for 3A  :o
Too much success the last three years has caused the trojans to hunt for predistrict games.  It is suprising the teams that were unwilling to play a predistrict game against them because they didn't want a whooping.  Several 3A and at least one 4A team nearby were too chicken to book two years of games for fear of the butt kicking they would receive. Of course, I remember when this 4A team rode a charter bus over to madisonville (3A) for a butt whipping a few years back.  I guess the coach figured out he could get more raises for a winning season if he picked weaker teams in the predistrict schedule.

With that being said, I fully support Coach Deel and think he is a good coach and a great guy who really cares for the players.
