I know from experience that the reason for low attendance at high school baseball games is because a lot of us have a kid or kids involved in youth baseball which is going on at the same time as high school baseball. Therefor, we can't make it to all of the HS games, but I wish I could. I imagine there are a lot of people out there in the same boat as me. Of course you'll never get 8,000 to a HS baseball game, but I think you could get around 1,000 if it didn't conflict with the youth baseball season. My two cents
Scalp not trying to be negative, I think you have a good point but ,you will never have 1000 people at a HS baseball game in this area maybe 500. Reasons are
1. you don't have parents of Cheerleaders, Band members, Dance Team, Twirlers, in the stands like football.
2. you only have 15 at max on a Varsity baseball team while in football you usually have up to 30 (which means more moms, dads, granpa's, grandma's , and so on.
3. you have track, softball, golf, soccer, and Tennis also going on at the same time. football only has volleyball and the varsity girls play early so they can go to the football game
Overall football brings your community closer together because it involves more Students from the community then any other sports. That is why it gets more money. But Scalp I Do think it would be awsome to see a Ned and PNG baseball game with the same amount of fans that are at the football games (with the band!) that would be awsome
Now that I agree with. Football is still king in Texas....but you make some very valid points as far attendance figures go.
Nice post.
man there was about 2000 at the nederland png game in the 1st round. there wasnt a place to sit in the stands and there was about 4 rows deep of ppl standing and also ppl standing along the fence. come playoff time there will be alot of ppl because all 3 of our teams will be going deep
:)
who agrees

a little advise to you coach griff....quit putting your boys in 3a tournys and beating up on small schools just to get your confidence up and maybe they would be able to play good ball when they get to the 4A district games.....food for thought.....and either way LC-M has no chance to beat PN-G even on their best day
Let's not write the obit for the Bears just yet. Remember, they went 14-0 last year in district with the same tournament schedule.
they didnt go 14-0 png beat them the first round and somebody else did too theywent 12-2 because png went 11-3

somebody answer me. what is the update with spikes and his ankle? saw him go down during the game tuesday is he going to be back if not whose playing first to back him up?
-
Wondering about spikes. he went down hard at first with an ankle injury anybody know what his update is? is he playing friday
-
its awesome how everybody think harrington is the only pitcher on the PNG pitching staff. yeah hes a dang good pitcher but they have other kids that step up the occassion better than all the other schools todd and benoit are up there and can go the distance spikes comes in late in games and shuts the door and they have a frew others that can handle pressure. even if harrington doesnt pitch they still got the game won with the other pitchers and their sticks and solid defense
-
Pulled off with a big win. Dont think anybody expected this one
-
i reeaaallllllyyyyyyyy hope Dayton and the what so called L-train play again it will be a murder..dayton would put up at least 40
-
I see your point, but I would have thought there could have been some sort of neutral site they could have found. I could understand going home and home if your visitors side held around 2500 people or so and you wanted to try to eliminate the PN-G crowd. But, from what I understood Galena Park plays in a nice, big stadium.
my son told me today Coach Burnett talked to the kids today in the athletic period and asked if they wanted a neutral site or flip for a home advantage and they told him they wanted to take the chance to play at the Rez again or go play at GP stadium so the boys made that decision for coach to make the coin flip

A win is a win a loss is a loss and the truth is the truth weather you like it or not.
yeah truth is the truth the indians put the dogs back in the pound friday night 8)

i just wanna know....was there anything nice about how we played tongiht??? (PNG) like the newspaper said png is just to nice to play nederland so hey Tom H. are we to nice??
-
on the passing game we werent trying to get big yards we were just throwinig short passes to keep the defense guesing and it worked
-
I hope PNG dosent start changing people around on the team. I think they just need to adjust to a shorter passing attack. I have to say as of now for me this game could go either way. It all depends on who will be playing for PNG. I heard thru the grapevine that PNG made some switches on the O line. Dont know who but that concerns me big time.
Game ends in tie !!!!
the only change we made was the center position going back to our quicker center to get to the Middle linebacker they have he is fast so we will see what happens
-
Cypress in this one. Two years in a row the Indians will lose. LCM has a little speed. I can't see PNG maintaining it. And the win against Ozen could have easily been a lost.
you kidding me..maintaining yalls speed??? we played lamarque crosby silsbee and ozen there all faster than yall lamarque and ozen for sure but ok thats your opinion
-
instead of asking about someone from around here...what about has anyone in the state ever done this?? cause i never heard of that that would be insane//
-
Just think play-ball!!. If games were won with "should have meters" instead of scoreboards you guys would be 3-0.
ha yeah but i wish we would have punched those touchdowns or at least field goals all the times we were in the red zone is what i ment and made the games better and more interesting
-
well dont start talkin to fast yall have not even beat a 4a team yet
good job beating a 3a team that is very young but will yall be able to even compete in your own district?
we should have beat LM and Crosby against LM we were in their territory 7 times in the redzone 6 against crosby we were in there territory i dunno even know and there redzone 4 times we could just never punch it in for our first points but now that we got our first points everything is ok were good to go
-
Having the no pass no play rule makes the students buckle down on the books (or cheat on tests) so they can play. If a student is busting his a$$ and still manages to fail i think he should still be able to play though..My reason, because some schools are ridiculously easier than others
yeah because PNG is one of the hardest academic schools in the area
-
all we did was run it straight up there gut
-
Not a snowballs chance
what did i tell you were gunna score early then run the score up thats what i thought goodbye
-
I agree with all that says this district is wide open. I think untill someone knocks off Dayton they are the only ones that can talk trash as last years District Champs. I think it is very possible for the third team in the playoffs to have a even or loosing record. Untill someone knocks off Dayton I put them in at least one spot. Nederland in one and the third could go to anyone. But who knows it could be anyone if everyone beats up on one another. Good luck to all and I hope everyone makes it through with no or very few injuries. LCM fans welcome to the type treatment that Raider fans get every year. I would love to see LCM, Vidor and Lumberton make the playoffs but that just might stop the world from turning so lets play them out and see where we all finish.
i think Central is the only team that has a for sure spot in the playoffs...cant tell you how Dayton and Nederland are going to play without their star quarterbacks BIG ADJUSTMENTS...but i think whenever PNG gets there offense going and take away the penalties its gunna be a bloodbath for 2nd and 3rd with dayton ned png lcm and ozen and i was impressed with lumberton so count them in MAYBEEE

okay, now all of you need to stop..NOW!!! i ran emergency traffic in this stuff today. i bet all of you have your face glued to the t.v. Stop watching it!!! have we learned anything??? the media hypes up this stuff and scare everyone. i'm in the freaking heart of this and so far galveston or lamarque haven't called off anything. as far as i know,my son will be going to school tommorow. this thing is supposed to hit while we are sleeping and move quickly out of the area, unlike allison. one bad rain storm!!! :
:
:
yeah its gunna hit yall while yall are sleeping but its hitting us around 6 this morning and lasting till about 830-9 so why would you want to risk your son or daughter driving out in that weather why not wait it a couple of hours or a day instead of losing someone ???
-
its week 2 and already talking about playoffs lets get about 3 games into district when all the teams are finally playing good you gotta beat out alot of good teams to get in this year
-
I have heard La Marque falls into the category of meanest, nastiest and hardest hitting team ever!
LM wasnt that hard of a hitting team they just rallied to the ball realllllllly quick
*PN-G vs. Nederland/NEDERLAND SURPRISES PN-G!!*

because they just flat out beat us. and we can take that loss.
but im not saying yall didnt beat us but most people from our area wont except the loss from vidor because of a few calls or make up some other thing. vidor beat us ok big deal its over with. guess nobody would except that because it should have turned out a different way but didnt from a couple of errors. but nederland just flat out beat png in every way last night
