Randy Smith's Tigers, 9-4 on the year, reached this round with a 52-13 bi-district win over Shepherd, a 56-14 area round win over Wharton and a 38-21 regional semifinal win over Giddings. Meanwhile, Cornel Thompson's Mustangs, also 9-4 on the season, reached this round with a 76-3 bi-district win over Huntington, a 21-3 area round win over Sweeny and a 21-14 regional semifinal win over Jasper. This game is a rematch of a district matchup back on October 12th that West Orange-Stark won 24-21 on a last second field goal.
