Russ Sutherland's Buccaneers, 12-1 on the season, reached this round with an 82-54 bi-district win over Crockett, followed by a 55-35 area round win over West and a 35-34 overtime win over Cameron Yoe in the regional semifinals. Meanwhile, Grandview, 11-2 on the season and District 9-3A-I co-champions and the #2 seed out of that district, reached this round with a 45-21 bi-district win over Rockdale, a 42-14 area round win over Woodville and a 24-21 regional semifinal win over Franklin. At least one team in guaranteed to represent Southeast Texas in the State Semifinals as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs take on the Silsbee Tigers in this Class 4A, Division II, Region III Final! Randy Smith's Tigers, 9-4 on the year, reached this round with a 52-13 bi-district win over Shepherd, a 56-14 area round win over Wharton and a 38-21 regional semifinal win over Giddings. Meanwhile, Cornel Thompson's Mustangs, also 9-4 on the season, reached this round with a 76-3 bi-district win over Huntington, a 21-3 area round win over Sweeny and a 21-14 regional semifinal win over Jasper. This game is a rematch of a district matchup back on October 12th that West Orange-Stark won 24-21 on a last second field goal. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Cuero/Geronimo Navarro Region IV semifinal next week.
