  1. I don't believe that Neumann would intentionally play a player whose eligibility was questionable. However, there are some lingering questions that remain unanswered: 1. What was the purpose of the eligibility waiver? The only one of the waivers that would seem to apply would be the parent resident waiver. The rule governing this is in Rule 463 of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules and it states: (2) Parent Residence Rule. (A) If a District Executive Committee finds that a student does not comply with Sections 403(f) and 442 (residence rules), that student may apply for a waiver of the apparent non-compliance and a declaration of eligibility. (B) A waiver of the residence rule shall be null and void when either the District Executive Committee or the State Executive Committee determines that the student changed schools for athletic purposes. (C) If a student who has been granted a waiver returns to the school in the attendance zone where the parents reside, a Previous Athletic Participation Form shall be furnished to the District Executive Committee, who will rule on the student’s eligibility at that school. 2. If this is the waiver, when did Nederland submit such a waiver for Kevin Laday? By the rule, a waiver would only be appropriate to apply for if the DEC ruled that the student did not comply. Did the DEC make such a ruling? And if so, why would Nederland allow Laday to play in varsity play under the shadow of this ruling? Was the original waiver application granted and the UIL contact which occurred following the week of the Nederland/Livingston game notifying them that they had received information which may compel them to reverse their granting of the waiver or was the word that Nederland got last week that the UIL had denied Nederland/Laday's original application? These questions leave open the possibility that, at the very least, there was some lack of due diligence here.
  2. Perhaps, I was a bit hasty, but not by much. I do know that a win over Central is a must this weekend as a loss would give the head to head tiebreaker to 4 of the 5 teams in front of Nederland. That is a whole pile of bodies to step over to get a playoff berth.
  3. Excuse me?
  4. Well, the immediate effects are this. The forfeit drops Nederland into the 6th place spot at 1-3 in district (1/2 game behind Central who is 1-2). What is of more concern, of the 4 teams that now occupy the top 4 spots, Vidor at 4-0, PAM and PNG at 3-0, and Livingston at 2-1, only PN-G does not hold a head to head tiebreaker over Nederland (as they have yet to play). As one poster stated in another thread, Nederland's playoffs begin on Friday. It will be interesting to see if the Bulldogs' play reflects that sense of urgency.

  6. Yep
  7. Yes. Neither the Nederland nor the Livingston representative voted.
  8. Nederland submitted an eligibility waiver for QB Kevin Laday, who played in Nederland's 51-9 win over Livingston. On Friday, the UIL notified Nederland that they had denied the waiver, but the decision to vote for a forfeit was up to the 22-5A district executive committee. They voted today that Nederland was to forfeit their win against Livingston.
  9. I'm Shefter, AAW is Mortenson because he is taller.
  10. Gabriel Pruett ‏@PaNewsGabe 9m9 minutes ago Vidor, TX The vote passed 7-0. Livingston and Nederland did not vote
  11. Gabriel Pruett ‏@PaNewsGabe 4m4 minutes ago Vidor, TX 22-5A District Committee votes that Nederland must forfeit its win vs Livingston. Lions win 1-0. Bulldogs now 1-3 in league play.

  13. Jim has also had the opportunity to build other ventures. He built the Legacy Sports Network which still exists today. And as last word, he was also pretty heavily involved with Fox Sports Southwest High School coverage. He is a great friend, great guy and still....a very busy guy.

  19. I sign of a quality program. Congrats, Silsbee Tigers!
  20. These questions and more will be answered on Sunday evening. LOL!
  21. It is strange as I believe they did some points in last week's poll. I guess the press forgot about them with their open week.
  22. A few thoughts on the teams that you mentioned: 1. Liberty - I guess whether they are a surprise depends primarily on where you are from. I am like you, that the degree of improvement this season has been surprising as the past few years had brought nothing that Chad Taylor, who was hailed as the messiah in Liberty, had promised. But I know that you and I had heard from folks like liltex that said the improvement was coming and we would see it as early as this year. However, I would caution the Panther faithful to thinking that the path to a Week 10 showdown with WO-S is a clear one as just the week before they face someone that I would add to this list of surprisingly good teams and that would be Hardin-Jefferson. Yes, they made great strides when Coach DuBois was there, but before then they wore the moniker, somewhat begrudgingly, of a basketball school. And then last year in Coach Sloan's first year, they had a defense that was decimated by graduation and an offense that had trouble finding it's identity. Things seemed to have been figured out by the Hawks which is gonna make that October 21 game an interesting one to watch. 2. Splendora - The surprise to me with their success so far is not only that they were rising one classification, but that they had no success over the past 10 years. The 3-0 start including the win over Dayton, but district losses in the last couple of weeks leaves me not as bullish on Splendora as I once was. And with the next 3 games being against Barbers Hill, Porter and Crosby, I fear that we might see that the Wildcats, as the late Dennis Green once put it, were who we thought they were. 3. Porter - nothing to add there, other than they have some tough games coming up as well. What Porter has done compared with what Kingwood Park has not shows that we may need to start mentioning Jim Holley as one of the area's better coaches. 4. Evadale - not surprising, Torres at QB is the real deal, so is Williams. The Rebels have had a line of good teams, it is just that the UIL alignments have recently been pretty unkind to them and place them behind teams like Tenaha and the like which has kept them out of the DC picture. 5. Woodville - Again, not really that big of a surprise. That Lockhart kid is something special. Did I think they would do what they did to Kirbyville? No, but they are a quality team who I thought would be safely in contention for the playoffs. Teams that I would add to the list: 1. Humble Summer Creek (4-0) I know it will please very few as we fear the Bulldog faithful with return to their arrogant selves, but the Bulldogs finally seem to be finding their footing in 6A where the success they found in 5A has eluded them. 2. Hardin-Jefferson for the reasons stated above 3. Sabine Pass - Yes, their wins have not been over especially accomplished teams, but then again, these were teams that usually counted the Sharks as a W on their schedule. I think what has helped is that they had a bunch of experience that was returning and Coach Thibodeaux has been able to get the parts working this year.
  23. Welcome to the board. And for those who suspect otherwise, this is NOT Buddy Garrity 2.0.
  24. This is what I am talking about, I turn my head and there pops up several posts referring to PA as a ghetto. If that is the best that you can do when talking about PAM, then please holster your pistol.
