  1. The PL Judges at Sweeny last year were the same ones used at Palacios for the past several years . They are normally very bad and do not read the rule book as written. They call a toe moving inside the shoe which is not the way the rule is written. I am a certified PL judge now and work with a group that judge in the Golden Triangle area and we try to call by the book . We start this early so lifters know what to expect at regionals or state . I had a daughter that bombed twice in Palacios because of bad judging and this is why I started so hopefully it will not happen on my platform.

  2. I cant understand where the mixup was for umps....we waited 1.5 hours for umps and when

one showed up (that wasn't even the scheduled ump - he just showed up to try and help us

out to play) the coaches could not agree to play with one ump even after asking him to come help.

It was no advatage or disadvantage to eather team and with the rain in the forecast and all games

must be played by Saturday I thought it was a bad idea to not play.

After 10+ years of watching HS Softball I am still amazed when things like this happen.

Very easy why they didn't show. The game was not scheduled. With ALL the rainouts and changes the scheduler (ME) didn't get this game in the system. HOWEVER , Arbiter sends out reminders to both coaches about a scheduled game. It also can be checked by both coaches and neither checked . So I take full blame for the mistake. #1 in almost 900 games this season. All games also do not have to be played by Saturday. District Certification is Tuesday. We got it in and now we move on . Both will make the playoffs and It should be exciting to see them hopefully move on.

  3. They still have some bugs to wok out . FASA was founded by Bobby Hair ( formerly USFA) . They have some big tournaments in the Shreveport area and some in Lufkin and Longview. Just have to pick and choose where you want to go. I do not see it getting as big as USFA for the younger age groups down here. They do pull some teams from Ark and OK at some of their bigger events up north.

  4. This was a very competitive game. Both teams played hard and hit the ball well. Pitching was good also.

I would also like to point out that this game would have NOT been played due to rain had it not been for some hard working parents and coaches. Some of the old CRUSH crew (Frank Frac, Frank Russell, and myself) along with Coach Ed Dyer(WOS), Coach Mac ( Huffman), Coach Smalley (OF) and the PAM maintance man pulled the tarp on and off the field and put quik dry and lots of raking of the field to get this game played for the girls. We only had to delay the game for 30 min when most thought it would wash out. Also a shout out to he umpires for donating their time and also money for the girls. I was proud to see some of the kids I have helped coach and coached against on both sides of the ball playing and hope they ALL move on to bigger and better things .

  5. The 3 umpires for this game were from the Jefferson County TASO chapter. Fred Rodgers, Chuck Theriot and Dan Harris were selected to do this game. The SS for Huffman is a beast. They played a great all around game also. Speed, short game, long ball, great defense ,and good pitching all made for an exciting win. Good luck ladies.

  6. Everyone come out to the Sept Stars Over Texas College Exposure tournament and judge for yourselves. From the looks on their website , most of the big dogs will be there both 16 u and 18 u .  There will always be a place for a kid to play if they want to play. From the Big Teams to he not so Big teams and everything in between. Keep your goals high and do the best you can and you can achieve whatever you want to.
  7. Great weather and turnout this weekend. I saw some of the BEST 8u games ever at this tournament. Some of the 8u teams were more fundamentally sound than lots of HS teams that I have called this year. They turned double plays, dived and caught most everything in the outfield and the infield defense was fantastic. Texas Chaos, CenLa Heat,Intruders and GT Shockers were some of the ones there. Coaches have done a great job "TEACHING " these 8's the game.

HJ's Kaitlin McFarland made an impressive jump from 8th place after squat and bench to 2nd place and a trip to state after deadlift. The show of sportsmanship from the Orangefield and Hampshire-Fannett powerlifters and thier parents in the stands, by cheering for Kaitlin on her final(state qualifying) lift, was first class and thanks to all of them. She even surprised dad on that one! Good luck to Kaitlin and the other girls that will be representing District 21-3A at state.

It was a good lift. For those of you who have never been to a PL MEET, It is one of the few HS sports that the kids cheer for each other and encourage each other regardless of school affiliation. It is you against the weight and you push each other to lift big or go home. Shows lots of character in kids that cheer even after bombing out  . Seen it a lot in meets. Also most parents and coached try to help each other. Good Luck to ALL in Corpus.
