1. The PL Judges at Sweeny last year were the same ones used at Palacios for the past several years . They are normally very bad and do not read the rule book as written. They call a toe moving inside the shoe which is not the way the rule is written. I am a certified PL judge now and work with a group that judge in the Golden Triangle area and we try to call by the book . We start this early so lifters know what to expect at regionals or state . I had a daughter that bombed twice in Palacios because of bad judging and this is why I started so hopefully it will not happen on my platform.
2. There was lots called in the Woodville Buna series. If as an umpire you don't call them ALL year it is a disservice to the kid.
3. They could have gotten more umpires for a 3 man crew but chose not to. Hardin pitcher threw a very good ballgame and Hardins defense was pretty good when needed. Good luck to Hardin and Coach Snell.
4. Buna made some good defensive plays and Welty pitched well till the HR. Woodville hit the ball hard but Buna made the plays early but late in the game WD bats just a bit much. Very competitive game. Big crowd.
5. Run rules in playoffs are 10 after 5 . Different in regular season
6. They still have some bugs to wok out . FASA was founded by Bobby Hair ( formerly USFA) . They have some big tournaments in the Shreveport area and some in Lufkin and Longview. Just have to pick and choose where you want to go. I do not see it getting as big as USFA for the younger age groups down here. They do pull some teams from Ark and OK at some of their bigger events up north.
7. He did 4- 12U games including his first 2 on plate with Marcie Anderson and Kevin Wiggins on the field. Did not do bad. LAST 3 were 16 & 14U.  Tried to get Trout to dress out and call with him but that was a no go.
8. Everyone come out to the Sept Stars Over Texas College Exposure tournament and judge for yourselves. From the looks on their website , most of the big dogs will be there both 16 u and 18 u .  There will always be a place for a kid to play if they want to play. From the Big Teams to he not so Big teams and everything in between. Keep your goals high and do the best you can and you can achieve whatever you want to.
9. Great weather and turnout this weekend. I saw some of the BEST 8u games ever at this tournament. Some of the 8u teams were more fundamentally sound than lots of HS teams that I have called this year. They turned double plays, dived and caught most everything in the outfield and the infield defense was fantastic. Texas Chaos, CenLa Heat,Intruders and GT Shockers were some of the ones there. Coaches have done a great job "TEACHING " these 8's the game.
10.
HJ's Kaitlin McFarland made an impressive jump from 8th place after squat and bench to 2nd place and a trip to state after deadlift. The show of sportsmanship from the Orangefield and Hampshire-Fannett powerlifters and thier parents in the stands, by cheering for Kaitlin on her final(state qualifying) lift, was first class and thanks to all of them. She even surprised dad on that one! Good luck to Kaitlin and the other girls that will be representing District 21-3A at state.
It was a good lift. For those of you who have never been to a PL MEET, It is one of the few HS sports that the kids cheer for each other and encourage each other regardless of school affiliation. It is you against the weight and you push each other to lift big or go home. Shows lots of character in kids that cheer even after bombing out  . Seen it a lot in meets. Also most parents and coached try to help each other. Good Luck to ALL in Corpus.
11. LCM GIRLS-(soph) Kallye Harris,(soph) Blythe Ferguson and freshman Courtney Price Buna Girls- Crystall Ballin, Keanna Ratcliff  (spellin)? NED Girls - Makelye Harper Silsbee - AJ Avila, Annie Morrisee Spelling is way off but these are the ones I know of.

13. Most of the locals will start around the 10th of January. Most HSPL meets around here will be on Thursdays with a few bigger meets on Saturdays. Also most schools kinda pair off with meets consisting of 4 to 5 schools to keep the meets smaller and more manageable. Last year LCM,SILSBEE,WOS,OF were lifting together.
14. Mike is now at home and recovering. Knowing him he will be back quicker than most think. His faith and family will continue to support him and we will be glad when he is back in the gym teaching our kids.
15. Got back from Vegas this morning in time to go to work. >:( We had 13 GOLD metals and 3 SILVER!!!!!!! :D  Ricki Calvert was named BEST lifter in her weight division and Maygan Crosslin was named BEST Lifter in her division. Blythe Ferguson(LCM) set WORLD RECORDS for age and weight class in all 3 lifts and also total. Makaley Harper (NED) set a WORLD RECORD in her Deadlift. 12yr old Shane Ratcliff finally broke ou  Great week in Vegas but I am glad to be home!!!!! I cannot tell you how many complements our kids from SETX got from all the foreign JUDGES and competitors on their lifting form, composure and enthusiasm I think our girls took a picture with EVERY LIFTER there. They cheered for all and were by far the best cheerleaders at the place. This was a true WORLD event with around 700 lifters from GER,PORTUGAL, RUSSIA , AFRICA and all over trying to see who was the best. I was honored that Mike  had enough faith in me to help but Robert (Junior) Johnson and Bethani Duncan deserve all the credit for keeping Mikes Gym going  in his absence. I found out how much work goes into keeping all these kids wrapped one right after the other. Get well soon MIKE !!!
16. For most HS lifters it begins right after XMAS holidays are over. I would bet that your regional will once again be in Palacious.
17. They all have place and have ALL done a great job getting kids signed. The Houston outfits are also GREAT at doing this . The SETX groups have learned over the past 10 years what Houston already knew and CRUSH, SHOCKERS  and BLAST have all been very successful at getting kids to the next level. As far as DADDY BALL in the higher ranked teams. Both JHARRELL and TROUT's daughters have long since quit playing and they both continue to coach and get players signed. The best one is the one that fits you and your kid.
18. Heading to Las Vegas on Wed for Powerlifting WORLDS !!!! We have 17 kids lifting from the CROSS TRAINERS Gym ( Mike Denmon) lifting ages 12 - 20. They are from Nederland, Buna , LCM, Silsbee, Vidor,West Brook and Splendora. Both girls and boys will lift Friday and Saturday against people from across the country and the world. Good luck to all of them . Would like everyone to also know that Mike is in Houston taking treatments and will not be able to make the trip. He has given lots of time and energy to these kids and has never asked for anything in return. Please keep him and his family in your prayers so he can beat his illness and be back in the gym real soon.
19. Congrats T !!!! You have come a LONG,LONG way since 12u ball. As a former coach of you it makes me very proud that you have worked so hard to get to this point and the sky is the limit for you. Congrats to Mom and Dad also.  :)
20. I also got to see these kids on Sunday REAL CLOSE. They played great ball with ONLY 9 girls all day. No subs at all. Pitcher pitched every game every inning as far as I know and did an awesome job. Coaches and fans were EXTREMELY respectful to UMPIRES ;D and the other teams . Most of their were also 1 run ball games.  2-1 , 4-3 type ballgames. Congrats to the BLAST 12U for a job well done . I was part of a 12U Blast team in 2005 that went to Panama and won the whole thing . It would be nice to see it done again. Good Luck
21. Texas girls Kicked Butt in La this weekend. Ned Lifters Calvert, AJ(Taco) can't say her name, and 2 others won 1st in their classes. Taco Outstanding Lifter Light weights TDorn (Vidor) 1st Maygan Crosslin LCM 1st Outstanding Lifter HWEIGHTS, Blythe Ferguson 1st, Kallye Harris 2nd Annie Morris Silsbee  1st  1195# total Might have missed some cause I do not know all of them but we were LOUD and PROUD of all our TEXAS girls. If you have never been to a meet it is very different from any other HS event you will go to. One of the few places where LCM,VID,NED and Silsbee parents and kids cheer for each other no matter where they go to school. Tobie Dorn was lifting her last deadlift after missing her first 2 attempts and all these girls from all our schools were out cheering for her . Morris from Silsbee was attempting 485 in her deadlift and the same thing happened. Also would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Mike Denmon from Mauriceville for all he does for these kids no matter where they are from. He works his tail off to make sure these kids do the right things both in and out of the gym.
22. This weekend in Baton Rouge. Who is going and where are they from? LCM has several both boys and girls going. Nederland has some also I think. Meagan Crosslin (sr) LCM  2nd Place State Kalllye Harris (fr)    LCM  State Qualifier Rikki Calvert (sr)    Ned  1st Place State I have heard that these will go . Not sure of the rest.
