  1. I was at the Newton/Kirbyville scrimmage last yeat as well as this year. Newton is to 2A like WOS is to 3A. But with all due respect I was supprised LAST year when they played. Kirbyville almost looked as good as Newton looked THIS year. I did not think last years scrimmage was close like was earlier posted in my opinion. Hewever, this year's scrimmage was all Newton. They took it to them early and never let up. Kirbyville did have one good drive in which they did score but everything else good was only spotty at best. Hazelwood and Rhodes were not too much of a factor. I knew Newton would be better this year than last year but I thought Kirbyville was going to be much better also. The wildcats need to get a whole lot better if they think they will be a playoff team. They may do it. Time will tell. This is only a scrimmage and who knows what the coaches wanted to see.
  2. I was told he definitely will not play for BC. It would be good if he went to Kelly. He is a good running back.
  3. I'm sure WOS92 is correct but I would like to know just how fast the trio in the backfield for BC on the 1996 team was. I tried to find it on the internet but don't know how to or if it is on there. I guess I could try the atheltic department at BC.
  4. I was at the game also and I remeber him having several fumbles. It was more like the ball was striped from him rather than him just mishandling the ball. The ball was strippped from a BC receiver last year against Lumberton which cost BC the game. I don't know if Bock wasn't coached on how to protect the ball or not. Stripping is a part of the game and WOS is good at it. Bock was a much better back his senior year and did not fumble near as much.
  5. 1. Dayton 2. Central 3. PNG 4. LCM 5. Nederland 6. Ozen 7. Lumberton 8. Vidor
  6. In my opinion Bock was very good and capable of playing for a major college but, maybe you are right. Earl Campbel was a great running back for UT and he may not have been a brain. A class act preson but I'm not too sure how bright.
  7. Well, I think I indicated that if someone knew the facts please reply. I know they were fast and if any one of them ran the 40 under 4.5 it would have to have been Hauffphire. However, is was not the speed that kept any of them playing for UT it was more like the academic abilities.
  8. If you want to see it for yourself then you might purchase season tickets to the PNG games. LOL I'm jsut joking with you H J. On the 1997 Bridge City team they ran the wing T and in their back field they had Bryan Bock, Sam Carpenter, and Hoffphire (SP) I can't remember his first name. All three of them were blazing fast. I would think they all ran 4.4's and 4.5's. There was four break away touchdowns by BC in a game against PNG. I would say around 40 yards or more. Maybe someone can remember the facts better than I can. PNG won the game 27-26. Maybe the best high school game I have ever seen.
  9. Okay, I am showing my age now. In the early 70's I think it was 1973 PNG was playing Lincoln. Lincoln was marching down the field via the pass. David Boullion, I think, from PNG flew horizonnaly and hit Kenny Washington, the quaterback for the Bees, about head hight just as he released the ball. Kenny could not get up. The game was delayed until he could walk off the field. The refferie walked to the Lincoln side line and put his right hand even with the side line and proceeded to trot along the side line as to get people off of the field. He went all the way to the back of the endzone then across the field to the PNG side. He then trotted down the entire field all 120 yards holding his right hand pointed to the side line then back across the back of the endzone and all the way back to where he started. Then he called for the game to resume. Lincoln then called for a timeout. After the timeout Kenny trotted back on the field and resumed play. He never missed a down. The next day in the paper Kenny was quoted as saying "It was a clean hit. There was no way he could have stopped". I thought that was a class act on his part but the referee should have been repremanded for holding the game up that long.
  10. Personally I think that Kirbyville should win the district with the tallent they have comming back. However, they did seem to falter a little bit towards the end of the season last year. WOS will be good. They always are. They are supposed to be rebuilding this year but in my experience they just re-load. Silsbee was very good last year and I am not sure of what they have comming back but if they have a lot then they could take the top spot. Jasper had the worst team I ever saw them have last year but, I keep hearing that they may take it all this year. My bet is not yet but we will see how much improved they are next Saturday when they have their first scrimmage. As for the rest of the district who knows, maybe one of the teams will put it all together and supprise everyone. I guess we will just have to wait and see. That's why we use the old cliche "that's why they play the game".
  11. Are you sure Anahuac is at Bridge City. I thought it was the other way around. Then LCM came to Bridge City the next week.
  12. I worked with a man who played for the old Wallace team in Orange. He told me that when he played the kids would ask the coach "coach, what play do you want us to run?" He said the coach always came back with "play football son, play football".
  13. I thought Bridge City had a better team than Lumberton last year. BC was driving for a winning Touchdown when a Lumberton player stripped the ball from a BC reciever. Hey, that is legal and that is how the game is played. Don't know if that is coached or the kid just played heads up football.
  14. North Dallas fourty was good but Rudy was great.
  15. Did Bridge City have a schrimmage and if they did how did they look?
  16. A sad day indeed. May God help this family in their time of need. Prayers from Bridge City.
  17. Steve Wooster. When he played it was like a man among boys. I saw films of him a few years ago and he ran better than any high school running back that I ever saw. The high school I went to played against him his junior year. We were glad we did not have to face him as a senior.
  18. 8 TH grade teams, 9 TH grade teams, JV's etc... are not the varsity. WOS is still the elite team until they are beaten. One would think that no team can stay on top forever. However, ever since I have watched WOS play BC there are only three times that the games were close. BC might could have won the rain delay game but it did not happen. WOS will have most of their team back in 08 but so will BC. BC is going through a transition this year. It will take them at least one year to learn a new system if not more. BC fans should support and chear their team this year but not say they will work magic this year. We are at least one year away and should have something to boast about starting in 08. This year 3 and 7 or 4 and 6. I hope I am wrong but only time will tell.
  19. I thought PNG tried the spread some years back and it did not work and they discarded it in mid season? It works well at some schools, SLC, but I do not know if it worked well the first season they tried it. It may be an offense that needs to be run for a season before it is executed well.
  20. I would have to say that Dayton and Central were the elite last year and it looks like they will be again this year. The way LCM handled PNG last year makes me believe they have the best shot at 3 RD. The PNG Nederland game I believe was a close game with Nederland coming out on top. PNG had a pretty bad year last year by their standards, and most everyone elses, but they have a lot of their kids returning. I would have to say that PNG gets the nod over Nederland this year. However, I too believe that Nederland has an excelent program and with that alone may win against PNG. However, a third place finish for Nederland seemes, to me anyway, not going to happen this year. JMO. But who knows. They have made the play-offs 11 straight years.
  21. When I played in the sixties you did not get water until the end of practice. We had one big igloo cooler and enough cups for everyone. We would take the top off of the cooler and dip the water out because it was faster than trying to fill up the cup by the spout. By then everyone was dirty, swetty, and had grass all over their hands and arms. Needless to say that the water you drank had all of that in it.
  22. Any of the area teams going to state is not very realistic this year in my opinion, but if one does I would have to say that Newton has the best chance. However, any of the teams in the area could come together and suprise everyone.
  23. I will be at the Bridge City vs Liberty game but would love to see the Dayton vs WOS game. Dayton is supposed to be good again this year and WOS is supposed to be rebuilding. So if WOS wins then it may single that WOS may again be the team to beat.
  24. Dry and cool is the best for me. I would rather take cold than hot and humid. I would not like to sit in the rain no matter what the temperature is. Although I have done it before.
