Many good athletes have come out of the schools in the golden triangle. Many have made it in the NFL. Some from PNG. Some from Bridge City and many from other schools in the area. One that comes to mind is Jeff Bergeron from PNG. If he had his head screwed on a little tighter I believe he could have been a force in the NFL.

I like it as it is at 3 teams. In local districts sometimes 3 teams are fairly close and each should get a chance at the play-offs. This year WOS won district. Kirbyville and Silsbee were both good and deserved to go as the 2nd and 3rd teams in the play-offs. I wouldn't mind seeing a super state champ with a game between the two state champions but that probably will never happen.

Glad to see you joined the site. Good luck to you and Newton. Your Bridge City friend.

How did Bridge City do in 7 on 7? I see a lot of information about other schools and how far they are advancing but I guess BC did not fare too well.

Jasper...The Best 3A Team Ever?
Cardinal Supporter replied to jdawg03's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I suppose any team that wins the state championship feels like they may be the best team ever in their classification. Jasper's pitching certainily is above par. I don't think any of the pitchers was the best ever but as a team the were probably better than most. They were real deep at that position. Their hitting was good also but so was a lot of other teams. BC, Silsbee, and HJ all had some power hitters. Jasper's hitters were as good as any of the other teams in district but I am not sure if they were better or not. The only flaw I would say Jasper has is they made a lot of errors. Even in the state game they made 4, I think. That is not to say other teams did not make errors. BC made more errors than Jasper did when they played each other. However, just as others have posted Jasper is the best ever this year and that is what counts right now. I believe Jasper and BC both will have good teams next year. I don't know enough about the other teams in our district to know what they have coming back next year but I look for another tough exciting district next year. Congrats Jasper bulldogs. You showed just how good you are in the tournament by waltzing through like you did. I think you guys and your coaches are a class act. I am looking forward to see yall and Bridge City play again next year. Good luck to both schools and teams. Enjoy your summer. -

*BRIDGE CITY 6 CARTHAGE 2 FINAL/GAME 1*
Cardinal Supporter replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I tuned in to the game when BC was up 3-1. I was supprised but very pleased. It sounds like the Cards had a supurb outing. I am very proud of them. A lot of teams may not have played as well just because they were going against the #1 team and they were undefeated. These two teams do seem to be equally matched in my opinion. Good pitching, hitting, and defense. I am sure Meeks will pitch on Saturday for BC. He is capable of winning. Especially since they know they can beat Cartridge. Their confidence will remain high. Carthridge's #2 pitcher is supposed to be good also. It will be another good game. If it goes to a third game does anyone know if Matt Hicks can pitch and how good is the third pitcher for Carthridge? -
I don't know what incident is in question here. If it is from the homecoming incident last year I thought that was already settled. He did play after a suspension as I recall. If this is new information I am not aware of it. I don't think a coach would punish a player after he was already punished for the incident the year before. If this is something other than the homecoming incident then maybe he did not learn from his mistake and needs to sit out. I hope not. He does not seem like a bad kid to me.

Who will start the postponed game for BC? Can Stringer pitch today or will Meeks have to start the unfinished game? -

It doesn't matter how many runs the #1 team allows bh89-2 what's important is how many runs the #1 team scores. They may or may not win this time but they are still a great team. -

Bh89-2 it sounds like you have a refrigerator full of sour grapes. BC deserves to be rated # 1. They have won 37 straight district games. Yes they did have a close call at Orangefield. I was there. BC looked a little lethargical but I am not trying to take anything away from OF. They played a great game and probably should have won the game. There was a pitch called a ball that I thought should have been a strike that may have changed the outcome of the game. It was in the last inning when BC was batting. Anyway it was a pitch that was too close to take IMO. The home plate umpire seemed to miss a lot of calls for both sides that night. Just about any team can beat another team on any given night. This one was close but if they played in a series against each other my money would be on BC. Please don't knock Dishon. He is a great ball player. He is one of the best at the plate and he is a pretty good pitcher. He plays center field well also. Is he the best to ever play the game? No! Is there a better high school player playing this year in his district? Some nights maybe and some nights maybe not. Will BC go undefeated in district? Who knows, but at this time they are ranked where they should be. Someone pretty much has to beat the top team before they can be knocked out of first place. -
Wade Phillips Remembers The Orange Tigers
Cardinal Supporter replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Great article about Wade. He was at PNG while I was at PNG. He is about a year older than me. He was our quarterback and Bum was the head coach. His wife Laurie was a cheerleader at PNG. Who would have known the great future for Wade and Bum when we were all in high school back then. -
3a predictions for this season??
Cardinal Supporter replied to rub-a-dub's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am not familiar with the situation at HJ. However, I have kept up somewhat with WOS since they are very successful year after year and BC plays them every year now that they are in the same district. WOS usually has some freshmen that plays on the varsity each year. I don't know if they did this year or not. Their program seems to use the cream of the crop from all classifications on the varsity. In other words some freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors usually make up WOS's varsity. So the fact that the freshmen teams tied as freshmen doesn't mean the odds will be the same when they meet down the road. They probably will be made up of a somewhat different team when the same freshmen are in their junior and senior season. In other words it will not be just seniors verses seniors. Something to think about. JMO. Good luck to you HJ. -

Some may think it is kind of sick...pardon the pun. -
It is my understanding that BC will not have very many starters returning. 2 or 3 and I think they went both ways. This thread was started to get some football fans talking about what they think about the new coach and possibily developing a passing attack. BC did not have a good passing attack last season so this new offense has potential, as far as a fan knows, to make the game more exciting. The coaches will have to develope the players in his new system because they have not experienced it before. I feel like that will take a year or two but I am not an expert. BC is not as popular as Norte Dame or Dallas as BIG BLUE wrote nor will they ever be. Not even South Lake Carrol is that popular. No one from Bridge City is boasting about how good their team is. They are just excited about the possibility of the team being more fun to watch and be a little more successful. I have not heard anyone say "I'm from BC and we are going to win district". That takes a lot of hard work and whether or not the kids want to work that hard remains to be seen. Even if BC does produce a quality team I do not think any other team will be shaking in it's boots to play them as SUPERFLUSNUKA wrote. As good as WOS has been through the years I don't think any team they played was shaking in their boots because they were playing WOS. WOS is still the king until, if and when, someone dethrones them. But shaking in your boots to play them, I don't think so. Bridge City is a solid 3A school and West Brook is a 5A school so the chances that BC will have as many atheletes as WB has is slim. However, BC is in competition with other 3A schools, not 5A schools. BC has had good athletes in the past such as Shane Dronet and Jason Matthewes, to name some, and did not even come close to winning district the years they were on the team. They were good players but they were not alone on their teams. The other kids were not developed. The tallent is always there, except for exceptionally tallented players, that needs to be utilized and developed. I hope this coach does that. WB did not have a very good football team before the Stumps arrived. I don't believe they all of a sudden got a crop of tallented players. This is just my opinion. I hope I did not step on anybody's foot. We are all entitled to our opinions and I guess this is mine. I love high school football and I watch a lot of teams play, not just BC.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think the new coach will instill his program right away. Why wait. It may take a year or two for the players to adapt to the new system but in the long run I believe it will work great. Coach Ronnie Thompson started the pass happy offense at Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson in the early 80's and the Todd Dodges and Stumps were a part of it. With the spread offense that so many teams run now it works well. I believe TJ went 0-10 in Thompson's first year but they improved tremendously the next two years. I watched South Lake Carroll play Lufkin in 2005 and they passed very often. I don't remember how much but it was often. They use the spread offense. They had good recievers and a good quarterback. It takes time to develop the timing to perform the way SLC did that day. The time is now for the BC players to start working with the new system if the coaches are allowed to hand out play books. I don't know the UIL rulings about this. This summer whoever the quarterback will be needs to work with the receivers and running backs to get the timing down so that when the season starts the coaches can start fine tuning the players and plays instead of having to teach them to the players. The offensive linemen need to hit the weights hard now to be able to protect the quarterback when the season starts. BC can have an awsome team but it will take a lot of work and determination.

Glad to see BC hire coach Stump. All the finalist were good. I hope he can develope our kids the way West Brook's system did for them. I am sorry this is his first head coaching job but I hope it is the last one for him. What I mean by that is that I hope he is successful and will want to stay in BC like other successfull coaches have in other schools such as Hooks at WOS, Newman at Nederland and Barbay at Newton. I hope the community will get behind him and support our kids in the Bridge City atheletics. Let's go coach Stump.
