**2007 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCHEDULES**
Cardinal Supporter replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Purpleeagle are you going to make the Newton/Kirbyville scrimage? -
Well, I have to go with West Brook. They are good with a good coach and program. And they are the bigger school so should have more depth. However, Central is good also. Good coach, program and athletes as well. It should be a close game. Ozen may be in contention in about a year.

Check Out This Offensive Lineman

Those standing next to him do not seem to shabby either. It is just that he is so big. -
Longest Span w/o A Victory Over Your "Rival"
Cardinal Supporter replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Very true. I have heard it and read it many times when PNG and Nederland play "throw out the records when these two play". PNG and Nederland probably have the longest and most intense rivalery of any schools in the area. -
My son played only through the 8TH grade. He did not have the killer instinct that it takes to be a good football player. I never pushed him to play or not play. He decided to stop on his own. I went to almost all the practices. I was there to show support and to be there incase there was an injury. When he was 7 years old he played for a city league and broke his arm. If I had not been there he would have had to wait until practice was over to be brought to the doctor. I never questioned the coach on the knowledge of the game or about how he conducted himself or how he approched the game with the tallent he had. He was the coach and is supposed to know what he is doing. Sure I would have liked to see my son play more but that is not my place to tell the coach how to do his job. I am now retired but when I was working I did not let anyone tell me how to do my job. I would do what my boss wanted me to do but I would not appreciate it if someone tried to tell me how to do it. I do think parents should take an interest in their childrens activities but leave the coaching to the coach. Be there for support and incase of an emergency.

True sad day on SETXSports/Prayers In Silsbee

May God bless this young man and his family. And may God bless the soul of the one year old whose life came to a tragic end. Prayers from everyone in Bridge City. -
2 a day practices
Cardinal Supporter replied to Cardinal Supporter's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree Bucster. Back when I was in school there was not a 7 on 7 program. Our quarterback and receivers worked out all summer. They had good timing by the time 2 a days started and were ready to fine tune what they had been doing all summer. -
Are There More Down Years In Store For PNG & Ned?
Cardinal Supporter replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Coach Danny Malone, in my opinion, was a very good coach. He worked the kids hard and had them believing in themselves. He made a coment on channel 6 sports show on a Sunday night that every time they took the field his team thought they would win the game. It is great to instill confidence in a team. It makes them play harder and it breeds success. A lot of fans did not like Malone for whatever reason but I don't think anyone can argue that he did turn a dismal PNG program around. I saw the same thing in Bridge City with Les Johnson. He was hard on his players and coaches. Again a lot of people did not like Les, especially some of the coaches and some of the teachers. I am not a teacher or coach so I am not privy as to what went on at BC or PNG concerning their head coaches. Their reasons may have been well founded, I don't know. However, both those coaches produced excellent results. -
2 a day practices
Cardinal Supporter replied to Cardinal Supporter's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think the first week, at least the first few days, are mainly for conditioning drills. I'm sure plays and other stuff takes place but a lot of sprints take place. At least that is what it was when I was playing. The more serious players are running now and are probably in pretty good shape already. -

No my kids are all grown up. I am just a big football fan. I try to see all the BC games I can but I will on occasions go to see another team play even if it is just a scrimmage. I did see South Lake Carrol play Lufkin two years ago at SFA Lumberjack stadium. It was an awsome game. I did see Newton win the state championship two years ago also. That was a close game and fun to watch -
When do players report to practice and when do 2 a day practices begin? It is always hot so I hope everyone can stay hydraded and stay healthy and injury free.

What does Silsbee have coming back? I thought they were awsome last year. It looked like the score against Bridge City was closser than the game was and that wasn't very close either. I did not even go to see BC play Kirbyville. I knew that BC would not be able to beat them although they did play them pretty well I heard. I know that KVille will be loaded with starters as well as Jasper. I know Jasper fans are excited because of the new coach they hired but Jasper was pretty low last year so I do not know how good they will be. BC has a new coach that is supposed to be real good. However, there are hardly no starters coming back and there are other problems with and investigation of steroid use with at least one of the players. It will take, in my opinion, at least one year to get all the kniks ironed out and to get a new system down. I am ready for football.

Of course there is SVille. All I said is that they are going to be good this year and I do not think they are over rated. PNG beat WOS in a scrimmage the year that WOS won state. I know there is a difference. That is just like saying that "we won district on JV so we will win district next year on the varsity". Just because a team has a good JV does not mean that they will be as good against another teams varsity. And again the same goes for scrimmages. Scrimmages are designed to find out your team's weaknesses and try to improve them. In a game situation the strategy would be totally different than that of a scrimmage. I saw KVille scrimmage Newton. They were good. They did have a good season last year. They will have a lot of returning starters from last years team. On paper they should be good. Like I said in my other post we will see when the season starts. I doubt you have even saw KVille scrimmage or play in even one game last year. So you are certaililly entitled to your opinion but I do not think you are looking at all the facts.
-
Sorry SVille Yellow Jackets I can't agree with you about KVille being overrated. I saw them play Newton last year in a scrimmage and was very impressed with them. They had a very good season last year and have most all of their players back. I know WOS has a good team, good coaching, good athletes, etc, etc,... but if Kirbyville will ever beat WOS this will be the year. I'm not saying that it will happen but at this point of the off season I think Kirbyville is the real deal. I guess we will see how they do when they scrimmage Newton again this year. Newton is supposed to be awsome so we will see.

PNG kicker kicked a 49 yard field goal in the state championship game against Stephenville a few years ago in the Astrodome. I think his name is Jay Price and I believe he went to Baylor. I have not heard anything else about him. I don't know if he went to the NFL or even tried to. He was a good kid. My wife taught him when he was in middle school in Port Neches.

BestRB to ever come out of your school ?
Cardinal Supporter replied to txsundevils's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree that Jeff (the jet) Bergeron was probably the best all around player on PNG's squad. He could pass well, he had several half back passes that went for a touchdown, catch the ball well, and of course was a great running back. Another good back for the Indians was Justin Eicher (not sure if his last name is spelled right) who played on the state champion steam in the 70's. He was a punishing running back. -
I don't like ties either. Perhaps another quarter or at least a 6 minute quarter to decide the winner. I am not sure of the exact rules of a tie but I think each team gets the ball at the same spot and is given 4 downs to score. I think this spot is within field goal range of most teams. Well if both teams have great defenses and only one team can kick a decent field goal then they will have a big advantage over the other team. JMO. Perhaps someone who knows the rules better than I do could tell me why this is good or not good.

Will Kirbyville be scrimmaging Newton again this year? I saw that scrimmage last year and kirbyville looked great. Newton came around before district started and has most everyone back so they should be good in the scrimmages this year. Kirbyville has most of their team back also so if they scrimmage each other this year it should be fun to watch again. BTW I think Kirbyville has an excellent chance of winning district. WOS is always good and will be again this year so it will be interesting to see who will come out on top. :-\

I believe the PNG Plano game had over 49,000 in the state championship game in either 1977 or 1978. It is a state record that I think still stands. By the way Plano won the game 13-10. I was there and the crowd was awsome. It was not the best officiated game I ever saw and PNG did not get a pass interference call close to the goal late in the game that most thought they should have. Good game though.

7 on 7 Scores
Cardinal Supporter replied to Cardinal Supporter's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
What were the results of these games? -
1. WOS 2. Kirbyville 3. Silsbee 4. Jasper 5. Hardin Jefferson 6. Hamphire Fannette 7. Orangefield 8. Bridge City (We could beat ourselves maybe) lol I hope Bridge City will have a competive football team. We have lost a lot of starters through graduation and do not have many seniors on next years team. However, we do seem to have a good coach with a whole new approach. It will take some games to get it down. If our guys are fast learners and work hard this summer our season may just turn out all right.
-
I know Gary Stelly and his crew do a great job of whatever game they decide to broadcast. I don't know how they decide which game they will be broadcasting. They do a Orange county game every week. Usually WOS. If WOS plays on a Saturday then they will probably do another Orange county game on the Friday. WOS usually plays a tough schedule and they have been the strongest team in the district for a while so that may be why they usually choose their games to broadcast. I need to check with the Bridge City school district to see if they have a contract with KOGT. Being that KOGT only broadcast a few games from BC the school district may be willing to get a contract with another radio station to do their games. It is also possible that SETXsports may want to stream the games this year but I don't know if a possible contract between KOGT and BCISD will allow that. I need to look more into this if I can get the time. If anyone knows the in's and out's of all of this please post it here.
-
Just read some of the post on KLVI broadcasting Nederland games next year. They have been doing Nederland games for a few years that I know of. KOGT does Orange county teams every year and they do a very good job of it. However, they seem to broadcast more WOS games than any other school. Probably because they are located in Orange and because of the success of WOS. I would like to hear Bridge City games every week in case I can't make the game. I brought this up on the Bridge City board either last year or the year before but there wasn't much response. I don't know how to go about getting a group of sponsors to do our games every week. I would be willing to help if I can if someone knows how to get it started. There are lot of business in Bridge City with more coming. I think there may be enough to sponsor the games.

Will Jasper make the playoffs this year?
Cardinal Supporter replied to Morgan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Jasper has a lot coming back but they did not do very well last year, so it is hard to believe that they could make it to the play-offs after the season they had. I believe Kirbyville has a good chance of winning the district. WOS always does well even when they are supposed to be down so it could go down to the wire with those two. Probably Silsbee will take the third spot. I say that based on last year's performance but I really do not know how many players are returning for all the teams. I believe Kirbyville has a lot returning as well as Jasper. BC will have a very young team so their new system will have to develope fast for them to make a strong showing. -
Who has the best/craziest fans?
Cardinal Supporter replied to fbplayer999's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think PNG has a few more fans than Nederland but no other school seems to come close to those two schools when it comes to fan support. And when they play each other neither stadium can hold all the fans that show up for both schools. PNG I believe holds the state record for a high school game. 49,000 pluss fans I think when they played Plano for the state championship in Texas stadium. Plano had a few more fans at that game but it was in their back yard. The turn out was pretty close. There was more people there than the combined number of citizens of Port Neches and Groves combined. There is good fan support for other schools as well. Bridge City turns out well for its games as does Orangefield which is a fairly small school. WOS does pretty good but when you have a winning program like they do their support should be more than it is. LCM usually has a good turn out but their visitor's stands are too small for most of the teams they play. That may make some of the fans of their oponents stay at home that night. They should inlarge their visitors seating capacity.
