Braun-Gonzalez I think is just right. Tulowitski is probably too low. Lee, Beckett, Helton, and Wright are all too high. Youkilis and Werth are way too low. [/quote] Howard strikes out way too much and is average on defense to merit a top 10 spot. Adrian Gonzalez is 24th and is a better hitter. Totally disagree on Pedroia.  He gets a ton of pub in Boston, and hes a very good player, but he doesnt put up the numbers to merit his spot.  I'll give you an example.   Compare Pedroia's numbers and Hills numbers, and Hill was 45!  Robinson Cano isnt even on here and hes hands down better than Pedroia. How many of you watch this channel?  On my time warner cable its 320 and 1320 for HD.  If you watch it while the ball games are going on, they'll do live lookins throughout the night, showing key matchups and situations in the ball games.  If you want baseball coverage without the EAST COAST BIAS, I would take MLB Network at night over ESPN's Baseball Tonight.  They also show a handful of games a week that are usually pretty good.  I heard they are struggling for ratings which is a shame because i think they do a pretty good job.  For those who have seen it, tell me your opinions of the network...

[/quote] You may want to rethink that comment.  The Yankees DH is Nick Johnson who has been a disappointment.  The Red Sox DH is David Ortiz and he's been terrible.  Berkman could easily DH in both lineups, and with his defensive skills, he'd probably play the field some and give the 1st basemen days off.  The problem with the Red Sox has been their lineup hasnt produced to the level of the past and Ortiz isnt the same and no more Bay.  The Yankees lineup is really good but they are always willing to take on salary and the Red Sox could actually use Berkman if Berkman can return to form from his surgery.

The astros are terrible this season and it doesnt look like the future is getting better.  As much as i like Berkman and Oswalt, i think the astros would be better served trading them to a team in contention that would resurrect these guys careers, and hopefully return the astros a handful of good prospects.  At this point, I'm tired of watching Oswalt have his starts wasted by a terrible offensive team, and would rather see him go to a team that will give him better run support. And i'd like to see Berkman go somewhere where he is actually playing for something.  Of the 3 best players though, i'd much rather the astros trade Carlos Lee, whose contract is looking really BAD at this point.  Its a shame we are stuck with this guy and his no trade clause, he should want to go to the AL and DH instead of "trying" to play left field.  He would be the guy youd most want to trade but i think it would be hard for the astros to move him.  What would be some good trade ideas for Berkman and Oswalt?  Heres a few ideas i came up with, since the Yankees and Red Sox are struggling with their DH position, and would be willing to take on Berkman's contract. Berkman for Clay Buchholz Berkman for Phil Hughes and a 1st base prospect (dont know yankees farm system)

This was a 1A school that wasnt a typical 1A school, they had 3A-4A athletes.  Could Cayuga play with the 4A teams in this area?  Yes.  You want proof?  Cayuga beat Crockett before district and Crockett (who was state ranked in 3A for a while) beat LCM in the HJ Tournament.  Cayuga also beat 3A Van who won their district and they and Crockett made it to the regional quarters in the playoffs.  Cayuga's only 2 losses were to state ranked 3A Argyle and Navasota in the Whataburger tournament, which were losses by less than 10 pts.  Both of those games were played with only 2 practices since they won the state championship in football.  These guys could definitely hang with the 3A-4A teams in this area, and they'd outphysical several of them.  Ask some of the other guys that saw Cayuga in the state tournament like AAW...

With all the talk about the UConn women with their current streak and dominance in college, i thought this would be an interesting question.  I went to the state tournament this year and saw all the state champion teams.  How many of those teams would beat the UConn women in a game?  I think most think the 5A and 4A champions would win and maybe 3A also, because those teams have a handful of players that are going to play college basketball.  When you get down to 1A-2A is where it gets interesting.  You have Ponder in 2A who is as fundamentally sound as it gets, and Cayuga, who had unbelievable athletes that could match up with 3A-4A athletes.  So vote on the poll and give your thoughts on who what you think would happened if they all played.  Here are all the champions: 5A: Fort Bend Bush 4A: Houston Yates 3A: Lubbock Estacado 2A: Ponder 1A-I: Cayuga 1A-II: Nazareth

24-1A-II had Slocum, Laneville, and Kennard at 3, 6, and 21.  Neches beat Laneville in their district also, they came in 4th.  I would go as far to say that district 24 was the best district in 1A-II.  Outside of region 3 or east Texas, thats the only other district i can think of.  There may be more on there but i dont know.

I got a few thoughts on this topic.  First of all, i think just because you make it to Austin in the final 4, doesnt guarantee you a spot in the top 4 or 5 on the final poll.  Some teams come out of weak regions where they may not make out 2 rounds in another region.  Leggett in 1A-II region 4 is a great example.  They made it to the state tournament and lost to Kennard in the regular season.  Kennard was the THIRD PLACE team 24-1A-II, which is region 3 though.  I promise Leggett couldnt make it 2 rounds in region 3, and they have no business being in the top 10 or maybe 15 in the TABC poll, but finished 4th for making it to state (Laneville at #6 beat them by 8 pts on a neutral court).  Now in Spurgers case, they beat the #2 team in state at the time to get to state, so i agree they should be higher.  In the teams ranked ahead of them, i saw Cayuga, Bronte, Gruver, Tenaha, and Martins Mill play at least once.  I think Spurger shouldve been possibly ranked ahead of Gruver or Tenaha, but not Bronte or Martins Mill.  Bronte for obvious reasons, and Martins Mill gave Cayuga a heck of a game in the regional finals, it was within 10 points until some point in the 4th quarter.  I think Martins Mill wouldve done pretty well at state also.  I cant speak for those other 3 teams, but they better have made the regional finals at least.  I probably wouldve put Spurger at least in the top 6 or 7 though.  I agree about the TABC poll being a joke in some cases.  They rank teams that i know have no business being in there and leave teams out that are more than deserving.

LOL.  Everyone i talked to wondered if Idalou could hang with Ponder.  They did for 1 quarter then went on to score like 5 points over the next 2 quarters.  I only watched less than 1 quarter of the New Waverly/Idalou game, and Idalou kinda reminded me of Ponder a little until they actually played Ponder.  Dont ever bet against Ponder... I didnt do the state tournament picks, but if i did, i wouldve picked Ponder.  If you ever want to show your team how to play basketball, show them a Ponder game, they are as solid as they come.

Spurger will have a great chance next year since moving down to 1A-II, although Blankenship and Hutto will certainly be missed next year.  Im not quite familiar with some of the districts in 1A-II region 3, but the ones i'm not familiar with werent very good this year in the playoffs.  All 3 of these teams will be top 10 teams next year in TABC.  So heres my list of top contenders Spurger will have to deal with: Laneville- Lost all stater Carey and a few other seniors to graduation.  But were deep and very athletic this year.  They nearly got to Austin, losing to Slocum in overtime in regional finals, but will have a great chance again next year. Dodd City-  They are losing pretty much no one to graduation, like the 3rd guy off the bench if you count that.  They were very good this year, losing a very close 59-55 game to a very athletic Laneville team.  They are well coached and shoot well.  Maybe the favorite in this region next year. Miller Grove-  They lost a close 40-35 game to Slocum in regional quarters this year.  Not losing much to graduation either.  Expect to be even better next year.  Scrappy team that plays tough defense and will definitely be in the mix.

I saw this game on thursday at the state tournament.  I talked to Cooper and AAW after the game, and both were very impressed with Cayuga.  My first question to both of them was, did Cayuga live up to the hype or what?  Since i'd been accused before of being biased and i supposed people thought i overhyped Cayuga.  This has been mostly the same team the past 3 years, which makes you wonder after seeing them in Austin why they lost the last 2 years in the playoffs.  Honestly, i wasnt surprised by the result, i thought about picking a big win but didnt on the thought of being further ridiculed on here.  I'll say this, Spurger definitely looked like they belonged there.  I really wished UIL wouldnt have matched up Spurger and Cayuga in the semis.  I cant say for sure, but i really think Spurger wouldve beaten Gruver or Bronte if they played them.  But what does UIL ever get right?  I watched a couple semifinal games the past few days that i thought was basically the state championship game (Slocum-Nazareth, Silsbee-Madison), since UIL wants to use a stupid system of picking the matchups.  But thats a whole other topic to post.  Cayuga will roll Bronte by 30+ tomorrow morning in championship game.  Congrats to Spurger on a great season, i was glad to see them in Austin.

This is a rematch of the 1A regional semifinal game 2 years ago, when Spurger knocked off Cayuga to go to the regional finals.  2 years ago i was ripped by many posters for picking Cayuga to win that game and they ended up losing.  I stand by my comments that Cayuga was the favorite that year, Spurger just did a great job and pulled off the upset.  I've seen both teams play this year.  I watched a VERY GOOD Martins Mill team play within 10 pts of Cayuga for 3 quarters and Yuga pulled away in the 4th to win by 20 yesterday.  Cayuga is very athletic and very deep and will test Spurger for 32 minutes.  If they can limit the turnovers they can win this game.  I hope everyone from SETX can come watch this game thursday to see Spurger play and to see the team Cayuga has (2 div 1 football players on the team).  Cayuga will probably be the favorite at state and i'm picking them to win, but Spurger can win this game..

The cream has risen to the top in Region III class 4A with Yates definitely being the cherry. Class 3A Region III Only 3 district champs remain out of the 8 teams.(Cleveland, Fairfield and Silsbee) 4 runnerups (Crockett, HJ, Hudson, and Mexia) with WOS being the lone 3rd place team left of any school in all of Region III, all classifications. 21-3A the only district with 3 teams still remaining. Class 2A Region III Five #1 seeds left (Arp, Dangerfield, Kountze, New Waverly, Sabine). At least 2 of these top seeds will be eliminated after tomorrow night as Kountze plays New Waverly and Arp plays Dangerfield. Sabine definitely got the best draw being placed in the upper bracket away from Arp, Dangerfield, Kountze and New waverly. [/quote] Good observations AAW.  Dont know about 5A, but i think from 1A-4A, region 3 may be the best region.  4A has Yates, 3A i think has the toughest bracket to go through and whoever makes it will be battle tested.  2A, i think the Kountze-New Waverly winner will be the favorite to win state, and the Kountze-NW side is loaded compared to Sabine's side.  1A-I, this year will be the year Cayuga gets over the hump and wins in dominating fashion.  1A-II, if Slocum can beat Miller Grove, they will be on a collision course with Laneville, with the winner of region 3 being the favorite in state.  I would bet region 3 will produce the most favorites at the state tournament.  Now whether they can follow through is something else.

[Hidden Content] There were a couple of high profile games tonight in east Texas, none probably bigger than #1-1A Cayuga vs #3-2A Clarksville in which Cayuga comes away with a 2 point win.  That game snapped their string of 100 pt games though that is now a state record at 10.  Sabine played a very good Center team and lost by 1.  The link above has a bunch of warmup/tiebreaker game scores from east Texas.  It will be updated on monday/tuesday when more games are played.  Another big one is monday, as #1-1A-II Slocum plays #3-1A-I Bland at Martins Mill.  I may in attendance to watch that high profile game.

Cayuga distances themselves further from HJ's previous record of 7 by getting their 10th straight 100 pt victory last night, winning 102-44 over Dawson.  Dont think their run will end in the playoffs either.  I believe their first playoff game will be the winner of Broaddus/Alto, and neither is better than 15th ranked Lapoynor, who they scored 100 on twice.  I hear they are playing #5 ranked in 1A-II, Bloomburg, for a warmup game.  But i'm not sure if that game will count toward the record.  If it does, i wouldnt be surprised to see 100 scored in that game too.  In case yall are wondering, the 1A regional tournament is in SFA this year...

[Hidden Content] Dont know how many HJ fans were aware of this, but the 91-92 HJ team held the record of 7 consecutive 100 pt games, which was broken by Cayuga on tuesday Feb 8 and is still counting at 9 with their 108-52 win over Hubbard (who is 3rd in district and previously ranked!) friday.  They play at Dawson on tuesday and will almost certainly make it 10 in a row since Dawson has only 2 wins in district.  I saw Cayuga play once this year i was very impressed and have no doubt they deserve that #1 ranking theyve had since they were winning the state title in football.  I was accused 2 years ago of overhyping this team but i truly think they are totally legit.  Unbelievable athleticism and depth at the 1A level like you've never seen, rotating about 12-13 players throughout the game.  If you walked in the gym and saw them warming up you'd think they are a 3A or 4A team.  I believe if they were in southeast Texas they'd make the playoffs in every district but 5A.  After Yates, this team is easily the next best bet to make it to state and win.  Dont argue with me on here about it, get out and watch this team play, they are impressive to watch.

[/quote] They arent on there for the same reason teams like Cleveland, Hudson, New Waverly, etc arent on the SETXsports polls, they arent in the coverage area.  SETXsports covers southeast Texas and Eastexsports covers east Texas.  If you want, you can talk about where HJ, Silsbee, Kountze would fit into these polls.  I was hoping to hear from some knowledgable fans on what they think of where the teams rank in this poll though.

Since realignment is released and we know who will be in whos district, i thought this would be an interesting discussion.  Spurger and Burkeville dropped down to 1A-II and into region 3 in a district with Leggett and Goodrich should make things interesting.  Big Sandy is no longer in region 3, but with Clarksville dropping to 1A-I from 2A, my money is on them being the #1 preseason in TABC next year and the region 3 favorites.  2A region 3 has a lot of new teams like Crockett, Edgewood, Tatum and New Boston, which should make the region tougher.  3A region 3 will be tough once again next year with a lot of good districts.  Below i posted some links to polls you can vote for the toughest district in region 3 for 1A-3A.  You can post your top 3 districts for region 3 on here or on the links below. 1A-II [Hidden Content] 1A-I [Hidden Content] 2A [Hidden Content] 3A [Hidden Content]

This may be the toughest district in the region.  You have Navasota who was ranked in the top 10 like a month or less ago and for some reason dropped down and is now ranked 23rd.  Then you have 10th ranked Rudder.  You have Rockdale, who has already taken Rudder to OT in district.  Then there is Madisonville who has now beaten Navasota.  You also have Cameron Yoe who has played Rudder, Navasota, and Rockdale within 15 points.  Taylor has also beaten Madisonville.  Thats 5 good teams out of this 7 team district.  Whatever 3 teams come out this district will be a tough out.
