That remains to be seen, they beat two  0-2 teams so far. I guess to answer to your question is "NO" at this point and time Orangefield is not very good and Jasper is not WOS good yet.

 9. I think the kids and parents will be suprised on how mature this young lady is. They will work hard, I promise.
 10.
It doesn't save the district any money. The state pays the base salary. School district pays a certain amount above base. It actually probably cost them more because most districts pay young teachers more above base. It isn't like an AD where you set the salary. How many people applied anyway. I heard the number was low. Like less than 10.
I can understand why the numbers were low. While Orangefield is an excellent place for a coach's career because they have talent but it is like a pressure cooker. Some coaches don't won't the pressure cooker. It was probably less than 10 in football and it will be less than 10 in volleyball.
 11. Hope they do read what I wrote, should use it as motivation. If they don't then they was beat way before I ever posted this.
 12.
If you read up above, I was not the one who brought up the board.  Coach Wade I am not a board member, but I do know many of them very well.  Like many people from Orangefield, we grew up together.  Solo, you cannot compare the boys and girls programs.  They go by a completely different set of rules in their athletic period.  My daughter would practice the sport she was playing in the offseason and during season.  My son the past couple of years was not given this opportunity.  Heck, he was only allowed to practice basketball during the period on game days.  All other days he was doing offseason weights and an outside circuit (during the season).  I was at many of the basketball and baseball games this year.  Especially in basketball, the skill level that our players had (not athleticism) was no where near what many teams in our district had, but our heart and drive is what made up the difference.  Looking forward, I hope that the boys are allowed to improve their skills and keep that heart. You have said many times, that we cannot compete in the current district we are in on a yearly basis.  Please don't tell these kids that.  They do not need to lose that heart and drive.   Good luck to Coach Smalley and I hope the parents, administration, and school board let him and the other coaches do thier jobs.
Not telling the kids just the parents who don't have a clue and think their kid is better than they are. See I am about real life and I promise you life in the real world will be more difficult for them than any sport they play but if prepared properly the sport can teach a lot about life in the real world. I agree with you, if the all of the above let them do their jobs. Easier said than done.
 13.
If it only had to do with football winning, then I am sure that Huckabay would not have had any problems.  I am pretty sure that it had more to do with allowing the other sports opportunity to work on what they needed to.  This is all water under the bridge.  It is just frustrating to think that the board is still being blamed.  They renewed his contract.  Nothing else happened after that meeting.  He went on medical leave and the surgery and recovery wasn't going as he expected.  He resigned.  Enough said.  I guess you are going to say there is more to the story.
By the way I have not said anything about the school board in a while.  Like I said that is water under the bridge. I am willing to move forward.
Really Catfever, your right it is water under the bridge but you will not let it go. Say what you want but here are the facts, under Huck this year at Orangefield. Football team one win from the playoffs, Boys basketball played a game for the playoffs, boys baseball made the playoffs, Boys golf team district champs, Volleyball team playoffs, Girls basketball team playoffs, girls softball team playoffs and girls golf team district champs. I am done talking about the board but I can't wait to tell you parents, "I told you so" and it will happen. In reality you guys will never be happy. It is all about the team, nothing else matters. Josh was a great hire but is he the savior no he is not and nobody is. You seem to think a new coach will make a difference in Orangefield athletics? The only difference will be if we move down to 2A or to another district, that is real. I just hope they give Josh a chance and don't turn on him like they did Huck. No man deserves that.
 15.
Well, they might want to be glad it was Gabe that was the admin in question.  'Cause if it would have been me, he WOULD have gotten the permanent heave ho.  I'll dismiss Tigervoice's posts because he comes up here with his tongue so firmly implanted in his cheek that he has to have it surgically detached on at least three occasions.  But to others there are rules to be followed.  Each and everyone of you, just like I did when I joined the site, read them and agreed to abide by them.  As staff members, we are charged by the site owner with enforcing those.  True, we don't catch all of them, but when we see them we must enforce them and that is all Gabe was doing by speaking up.  You can call it "power tripping" if you want, it doesn't matter to me. And in this case, it is one that we do hold particularly close to the heart.  These coaches and players are a big part of this community.  Whether you like them or not, if you have a child involved in high school athletics, these men (and women) are a guiding force in your child's life.  I certainly don't envy men and women whose worth is decided on how a bunch of 15-18 years perform on, at most, 20 days out of the year.  Believe me, they know the shortcomings of there particular programs and those shortcomings bother them a heck of a lot more than they bother any of us, believe me.  We as a site, who ask these coaches for help without ever really offering them anything but a "please" and a "thank you," feel that the least that we can do is to minimize the angst that they have to face when frequenting this board....and yes they do. Now, I can understand feeling frustration when the school you support is falling short and you want to express frustration.  Boards like these caters to exactly that.  However, there are limits that should be respected.  And when new coaches, before they even step on the field, are criticized simply because they have a beef with the school administrations....and I am not just talking about Coach Smalley......I saw it with the hiring of Kane Harris at Hamshire-Fannett, Marty Murr at Anahuac and Chris Babin at Deweyville....that is just flat out wrong, and it will not be tolerated.  Sorry if that offends. Todd Broussard Administrator SETXsports.com PS For anyone who thinks Gabe is a "new administrator" he has been in that role even longer than I have.
Great post man. Very well written.
 16.
Funny how when a person apologizes you get nothing back. Yet make a mistake or do something not in line with the popular vote and you get run out of town. And people wonder what is wrong with the world today. LOL
And you are suprised??  ;D ;D ;D
 17.
Ok, I have been reading each post about why Josh is or is not the right guy for OF.  I remember about this time 3 years ago, when OF hired coach Huck, the same things were being posted about him.  Mainly because you posters felt that this coach or that coach didn't get a second interview or was told one thing and something else happened.  Bottom line was Coach Huck was hired and implemented his system, it worked and everyone loved him.  Why don't we give Josh a chance and let him put his system in and go from there.  I know that he is a players coach and when he was there before the kids loved him and they played hard for him.  I think he is for all sports and will treat each sport that is in season with the highest priority, both boys and girls.
I think pretty much the whole community is behind Coach Smalley, I know I am. This whole deal is not about the hiring of Josh Smalley.
 18. Do I think OISD hired the right man, yes I do but in my opinion the way they did it was very unprofessional. They knew who they wanted to hire way before Huck left and even before they extended his contract. This hiring was no surprise to most in the community. All the admistration did was go through a legal formality by interviewing other applicants. But basicly the others applicants got dressed up for nothing and pretty much wasted their time. This was Corporate America at its finest. ;D ;D
