  1. Imagine this scenario: West Sabine defeats Colmesneil. Chester defeats Broaddus(completely hypothetical here). Brookeland defeats Zavalla. 3 teams at 8-6. What to do, what to do?
  2. West Sabine takes it in extras, 7-6. Fantastic game! Devonte Thomas and Eli Conner combined to strike out 19 Eagles, and Chris Williams won it with a triple in the bottom of the 9th.
  3. Anyone can beat anyone else in this crazy district. Good luck against Colmesneil!
  4. Just out of curiousity, what are the potential 1A playoff teams? Know District 23 except Broaddus at the top is up for grabs.
  5. West Sabine has to play Chireno because Chireno has to make up a bad weather day Friday. I'm sure the same happened with Ozen/Nederland.
  6. Wow! Is this district wide open or what? Think all the teams that get into the playoffs from here will be a battle-tested bunch.
  7. I heard today that the game was tied late but errors cost Hemphill. Heard the Twine kid pitched pretty good too. Don't know which one cause I wasn't there. I almost nailed the score though, missed the top number by one!
  8. With everyone back from last year's team a deep run is highly likely. Any given team can beat any other on any given night in the postseason, however. And that's the beauty of it all! Playoffs are right around the corner!!!
  9. That is interesting at that, isn't it? Not many other options though. Got my info from West Sabine's coach this evening. Even he wasn't sure why Chireno didn't want to play tonight...
  10. Not sure why but the Chireno/West Sabine game has been postponed till Friday @ 6. The Zavalla/West Sabine game will be played Thursday @ 5. Both games at Pineland.
  11. I have to say Central Heights but I think it will be more competitive this time around. I'll say 15-7 CH.
  12. May God bless all the Williams family. Know all too well the pain of losing someone so young ( I lost my sister 22 years ago this past February). RIP Ethan, I never knew you but from all the responses I've read you must have been quite a young man.
  13. I agree wholeheartedly with you, soonerbeintexas. Was just venting a little bit. Was tough to see the guys play SO hard and have one call seemingly determine their fate. I wasn't the only one hot that night in Tiger Stadium, but the passage of time has cooled my thoughts on the officiating that night. Kept the stats for the game and Groveton ran the ball at will seemingly, but even so West Sabine was still right there at the end. The Tigers should have played tighter D and won the game rather than leaving it up to the officials to decide. One call doesn't win or lose a game, it's how the team plays before and after the call that decides it. It was a learning experience for all the young men on the sidelines that night, and it spurred a playoff-caliber season.
  14. There will ALWAYS be a human element to the game, and last time I looked the umpires were just as human as you or I. There have been times where I have STRONGLY disagreed with officiating (take the Groveton/West Sabine football game for instance), the umpires and referees will miss a few calls here and there and, sadly, sometimes they affect the outcome of the game (again, look at said football game for instance). This is all part of the game. To the Brookeland fans who feel they were cheated Friday night, I got a few stats for you: 5 errors that led to 8 runs for West Sabine and 10 men left on base in just 5 innings. West Sabine had 4 errors, 3 hit by pitch, and 4 walks, yet you couldn't capitalize on any of their mistakes as they did on yours(i.e. a wild pick-off throw up the 3rd base line and an unsucessful rundown attempt that accounted for 4 West Sabine runs). The effort your kids displayed was admirable, and I must admit if I had someone playing and the calls went against my team I would be chirping loudly in the ump's ear. Having been an umpire for one summer gave me the proper perspective: umpiring is a thankless job and you only get noticed when you make a mistake. Do your job, and you go unnoticed.......
  15. Devonte Thomas hit an inside-the-park 3-run shot against Brookeland tonight.
  16. Big prayers goin up from Pineland! Hang in there, Williams family!
  17. You got that right, BucketSitr! Just a game ahead of both Brookeland and Colmesneil. With Colmesneil playin at Chireno tonight, the Tigers had better bring it hard tonight if they want to stay 2nd in district. The only sure win I see in the next 4 games is Chireno, but anything could happen. If they play to their abilities and cut out the errors(fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals), I think the Tigers will win at least 2 out their last 4 easily, with Colmesneil and Zavalla being toss-ups. Just my opinion. GET 'EM TIGERS!!!!!!
  18. Nice bounce back win for West Sabine. Anyone go yard tonight Bucketsitr? Who was the winning pitcher?
  19. How many HR's has West Sabine hit? I know Chris Williams has at least 2.
