  1. I wouldn't be bragging about a district that for the last 2 years is 0 and 6 in the playoffs. Barbers Hill will make the playoffs in the district they are in. If they were in 22-4a they would be in the battle for 3rd place.
  2. Until someone knocks off Dayton, the Broncos are the front runners. Dayton should have a BETTER team this year than last. They have the most talented QB in 22 4A and will be able to match up speed wise against anybody in 22-4A.. My predictions... 1. Dayton 2. Central 3. PNG 4. Nederland 5. LCM 6. Vidor 7. Ozen 8. Lumberton
  3. If they do bring back football, they better make sure they hit a homerun with the coaching selection. Would love to see some college football again at Lamar, hope it happens.
  4. Should be one of the best games of the year in SE Texas... I believe that Dayton has just too much depth for WOS this year. Pending turnovers and mistakes I take Dayton by less than 7. If Dayton wins this game big it could go a long way to building a really great season for Coach Stewart's team.
  5. I am for sure not "anti-Lamar" just factual. Well said ECBucFan, this area's passion is HS football. I can't wait for the FB team to return, and I will buy season tickets. I think Ray Alborn had the program on the way up when it was ended. He was an AWEsome person to be around, hopefully they can get a very motivating and likeable coach to lead the Cardinals.
  6. As a former athletic trainer for LU during the last year of the football existence, it would be great news for LU football to return. Hopefully the community would back them. Everyone needs to remember that SE Texas is primarily a high school football fan base. It wasn't fun to see the stands empty during the last few years of football at Lamar. The people of SE Texas didn't even support the Golden Gators (which eventually produced a few great major league ball players). Lamar needs to be expecting to lose money big time if they did bring back football, unless they can ink a big time coach like Switzer..... Lamar also needs to remember that dropping football wasn't a "God Send" to the rest of the athletic program. I think the football program (even if it does lose money) does generate more enthusiasm in the rest of the athletic program. Keep us informed on any new news...
  7. AWEsome!!! ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!! Good luck Ford!!
  8. Dayton's recievers will for sure be the tops. I am just glad I am not the defensive coordinator trying to figure out how to stop the offensive fire power that Dayton will have this year.
  9. Nothing in this part of the state could equal the playoff run PNG had in the 70's. NOTHING... No other team in this area played in front of over 30,000 week after week making it to at least the semi finals 4 years in a row. No other team has won more games in 4 years than PNG did from 74 to 77. To me that PNG dynasty was the "zenith" of Friday Night Lights in this part of the state... Hands down if you could have your kid play his high school career on a team it would be to enter PNG as a freshmen in 1974.
  10. Dayton will win district, but going undefeated again??? That will be a huge accomplishment to go back to back without losing in that district, but it could happen... Dayton's team will be better than last years... Besides Lumberton, I don't see the other teams improving as much as Dayton.
  11. If you could pick one QB to play for you on Saturday's, you would be foolish not to pick Green. A great athlete, plus a leader, plus a great student adds up to one special player.
  12. Two words for Lumberton... ALWAYS BELIEVE!!! At the beginning of each game you got to believe you are going to win... Unfortunately after years of not being successful that is hard to start... Central and Dayton I think are in at 1 and 2, but the third spot can be had, I think Nederland is going to get it, but who knows.... A couple of upsets and Lumberton could make it... Without the upsets Lumberton could be a cellar dweller again...
  13. Has WOS87 done research on the players from the triangle that made it to the NFL???? So many schools that don't exist anymore... Lincoln - Little Joe Washington Hebert - ???? Were did Bubba Smith go to school??? Can't think, but didn't WB have a defensive player (Jerry Ball???) that made it to the NFL... Just wondering... Who is the most recent Golden Triangle fb player to make it to the NFL???
  14. WOS coach... Which WOS coach went to Katy Taylor??? Anyways... My nephew will be a sophomore next year at Katy Taylor and is talking very very highly of his new coach... I hope he does good, but so far so good...
  15. Central vs Lee should be an interesting contest.... Looking at the preseason SETX top 10 teams... The WOS vs Dayton game is the only one with 2 teams in the top 10 playing... The winner should be #1 in the SETX poll.... A Central win over Lee would be a HUGE victory for the Jaguars... If Ozen can play WB a good game that will also be telling...
  16. totally agree!!!! You may have to drive more, but the competition and fan support (in all sports) blows away 21-4A...
  17. Dayton whined about having to join the 22-4A loop last season and all Jerry Stewart’s Broncos accomplished was waltzing through the district unscathed. I believe the whining was from people in Dayton reluctant of all the travelling and being dissapointed about not being in the same district with teams that were less than 15 miles from Dayton (Crosby, Barbers Hill, and Huffman).... As for me... I was happy that Dayton got put into 22-4A... This is one of the greatest districts in Texas in regards to "Friday Night Lights"... To me 22-4A is like the "Big 12" while 21-4A is like the "outhland conference"... There may be good players in 21-4A, but the level and excitement of the games in 22-4A can't be matched (go to a game at PNG and Smiley and tell me which one has more game time excitement) For the last 3 years 22-4A has swept 21-4A out of the playoffs.... For a large part this is due to the "high energy level" of the games played in 22-4A. 21-4A really doesn't have the "football" rivalries found in 22-4A... I know many people in Dayton would rather play against Huffman, Crosby, and Barbers Hill every year in a district, but the level of play in 21-4A just isn't the same as 22-4A. This winter should be interesting to find out where they will end up putting Dayton. What about it Dayton fans.... Would you rather stay in 22-4A or go back to 21-4A... It may not make a difference if they do it by enrollment... There was a previous thread that "projected 22-4A and 21-4A being merged and put in 2 districts by enrollment. That would keep Dayton playing almost the same teams.... Regarding the topic of the thread... This is unusual not to have hardly any teams in the top 10 preseason polls... Hopefully there will be a couple of teams go all the way this year from SE Texas...
  18. Isn't this thread intended for predicting the scores for the games at Reliant??? BTW.... Have the people in PA figured out why they weren't "invited" to play at Reliant???? Playing at these games is an honor. The schools were picked because the Reliant stadium executives know that PNG and Nederland will bring a large fan turnout and they also have a rich tradition.... Unfortunately, PAM has none of these attributes..... Would be nice to see one of the midcounty schools pull out a victory, but I think Brenham and La Marque just have too much fire power...
  19. Look for Nederland and PNG's population to grow more than Port Arthurs after the refineries hire the new people...
  20. I agree, until someone knocks WOS off the mountain, they are the favorites.... We will all find out how good WOS is after their first game... The WOS vs Dayton game should be a dandy!!!
  21. Didn't know that about Bum... Thought he was the coach of the state champion team... WOS87... Will you do a chart featuring career playoff wins and state championships???
  22. looking at WOS87's table... Dayton's Coach Stewart could vault from 21st to 17th with an 11 win season... Coach Stewart's Broncos are 7 wins away from tying Ethridge from PNG and are only 9 wins away from tying Durley... Good luck to the Broncos this year... ps... Bronco stadium is looking AWEsome!!! The teams visiting Dayton this year are in for a pleasant suprise... The best lighting in SE Texas as well as the best playing surface... The home stands at 58 rows high will be "intimidating" when filled up by Bronco fans!!!
  23. seems like there is some confusion in Bulldog land.... Whatever they end up doing I am pretty sure that the coaching staff will see that it will give their athletes the best chance to be successful....
  24. Wonder why no one from Barbers Hill has posted... at Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu, TX) [2006] Dayton (TX) 24, [2006] Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu, TX) 14 at Dayton (TX) [2006] Dayton (TX) 27, [2006] Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu, TX) 13 at neutral site [2006] Dayton (TX) 26, [2006] Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu, TX) 13 The truth (or statistical truth) does hurt....
