Coop... Looks like Florida is still getting a lot of rain... How high are the winds in the south Florida area... This morning they were 50 to 60 mph? Looks like the storm is actually increasing in area.

You have to error on the side of safety.... All the sites had Corpus this morning and they did nothing in Houston, now they may be in the bullseye. They may have been reluctant since the recent Beaumont evacuation was really not necessary.

Liberty county cancelled school for tomorrow and Friday. It's a good thing because the traffic tommorow going north out of Houston is going to be a nightmare.

The state has sunk a lot of resources into Corpus Christi, and now they may be out of the woods. Galveston really might get hammered. They should have started clearing off the island today

For Coop to make this statement means more to me than anything that I have seen about this situation. I'm sure he put a lot of thought in this comment before it was posted. I have heard from someone that says that they do not have the resources to get the 211 people out. I think he was referring about Galveston.

If I were in Galveston.... I would be gone... If the storm hits near Freeport, the surge might breach the seawall. For sure the west end of the island will be submerged.

The cloud mass would almost fill up the gulf if the hurricane were in the center of the gulf. Right now huricane force winds extend out around 100 miles from the center. That is a pretty large area.

Any one hear of any information from the Galveston area on evacuating Galveston? If not... Seems to me they would need to start evacuating Wednesday evening or Thursday morning?

EXACTLY!!! Just curious.... A Cat 3 going into Matagorda... Would they evacuate Galveston? Seems like they would. I believe if Galveston evacuates, Dayton ISD shuts down due to the confluence of HWY evacuation routes.

I hope none of you don't own a waterfront beach house around Matagorda Bay....

when gustav formed in the carribean, i just knew New Orleans was going to get it... With this one... I just don't know yet... It is nice that we have all this time to watch what happens and prepare. Just think if you were in Galveston when the big hurricane hit. They had NO WARNING! Hopefully the thing will keep going west.

Once gustav got into the gulf, the track on storm pulse was pretty close. Still way to early, we got to wait till IKE gets into the gulf.... Coop.... I understand that there are two high pressures (one over Texas and one over the SE USA), like there was during Gustav and that the storm will usually track between the two... There are a few models on storm pulse that keep the storm moving due west. What scenario with the two highs would make that happen? Don't know if any of you have been to the border lately, but gosh is the Rio Grand low. Don't won't to wish the hurricane on anybody, but they sure could use the rain down that way.

not at all.... Friendswood played a great game... Just curious how they had the exit out of the area were I was parked... The school is tucked into a neighborhood. An overflow crowd has to be a pain in the neck for the residents of the area... Just thought it was unusual how they directed us out on a resident's drive way....

Friendswood fans.... I had to park in the auxilliary soccer field. It seemed to me that to exit we were directed out through SOMEONE'S DRIVE WAY!
