1. As much as I didn't like the call, it was the correct call.  The problem is that the contact between the runner and the catcher was prior to the throw arriving, that will always draw the interference call.  Yes, the catcher stepped toward the runner because she was drawn by the throw (the coaches argument)...  Had the contact been made at the same time as the catch and tag then there would have been no interference.  This play was not the difference in the game.

Fact is, a 6 run 4th inning for Ennis and BH only getting one more run out of a bases loaded with no outs (two runs already scored) situation in the bottom of the 3rd is what was devastating.  Ennis hit the ball well and BH made 3-4 errors in the field allowing runners to advance an extra 60' in many cases.  Depending on whose book you look at the offensive production was pretty equal.  We scored 11 hits for both teams, 7 K's for both pitchers, and 3 walks (or hit batters) for both pitchers.  Final score was 8-7.

Not sure any of the semi final discussions are relevant since Aledo pounded Ennis 10-3 in the final.  Aledo won their semi final on an error in a one run differential game also over defending state champion Buda Hayes.  4A was the closest battle with all four teams being capable of winning it all.  Deer Park, Lagrange, and Wiemer ran away with their classifications. 2A Crawford hit the ball well in their final against East Bernard which was a close game at 5-3.

  2. @usedtobe33 Lauren Craine does have offers but hasn't signed anywhere.

@RaiderRed30 Believe me... Every single one of them would love to hand Hays a blowout loss.  Also, we did not have Lauren Craine pitching against Ennis.

Good luck to Lauren, no doubt she would be a great addition to a college staff.  All softball savvy fans know that preseason scores don't mean a whole lot when coaches are working in younger players and trying to figure out their lineup.  Can any of you make a favorable weather prediction for Austin this week?  Hopefully the rain clears out before Wednesday!

  3. The scouting report for Aledo is this: We made it to the state tournament last year and had no seniors... So we have a good chance at winning state with the edition of Riley Sartain.

Thanks for the info.  Is Lauren Craine signed with anybody to play college ball?  These 4A semi final matchups are going to be some good games to watch!

  4. Ennis beat Aledo early in the season 5-2, they have a left handed Sr. pitcher (Taylor Maliska) that signed with St. Edwards and plays summer ball for Glory Gold.  Ennis also has a Jr. (Julia Hollingsworth) that is committed to Tulsa batting close to .700 on the season, and Soph. Michaela Cochran (Texas Tech commit) batting .622 on the season.  All four teams in 4A are loaded with talent.  This class division may be the toughest to predict...

Hayes was a pre-season winner over Elgin 5-3.  Their Sr. pitcher is signed with Incarnate Word and plays summer ball for Austin Storm.  Rumor is that they returned everybody from last year's state championship team.

Looks like LCM lost to Aledo in a pre-season tournament 7-2.  What's your scouting report on Aledo Fracc?  I know their SS (Riley Sartain) can play, she is a 2015 A&M commit and plays summer ball for Mizuno in Dallas.  She is new to the Aledo roster from last years semi-finalist team.  Their pitcher Lauren Craine appears to be solid.

  5. BH plays Ennis at 9am on Friday.  Aledo #2 seed plays Buda Hays (defending state champs) at noon on Friday.  Winners play Championship game at 1pm Saturday.  3A, 4A, and 5A championship games are played on Saturday and will be televised.  If you go to Austin, watching all three games is great!  Barbers Hill's only other State appearance in softball was in 2006 as a 3A qualifier.  They lost to West Columbia in the Semi final, and WC went on to win State that year with 7 freshman starters as I recall.  If you go to the UIL Texas website they have listed a lot of info including roster, players batting averages, etc.

  6. How do you get to be a 5A level player? Just happens that they went to a 5A school before. Ive seen players play in all classifications that could play at any level. You can take a girl from a 1A school and with the right coach and dedication from the player can become a great player like these two girls. Jyst because your from a big school doesnt make you a stub on the field. They have made themselves that way.

Kelbi played for 4A Richmond Foster last season FYI.  They are both great players and their families moved to EB for a lifestyle choice.  From what I hear they all love it there and the kids are thriving.  Unfortunately for Hawley and Crawford, most of their girls have never faced a pitcher like Show.  As for .800+ batting averages, we have even seen these two do that on the gold level on some weekends.  Start carving the trophy folks, and while you are at it make it read 2014 & 2015.

  7. I was hoping for the Elgin-BH rematch, but Dawson crashed the party.  Dawson plays a lot of high scoring games, the last two were 11-9 and 10-9.  Dawson has some good hitters, especially the 3B Rodriguez, who has 5 HR's just in the playoffs.  On the flip side, BH hitters should be excited facing Dawson pitching that gave up 5 HR's to Elgin on Friday.  The difference in this game will be Rupp in the circle, and Dawson will likely struggle to score like every other team does.  Dawson is the 2 seed from 24-4A and BH handily took care of the 1 seed Santa Fe.  I would be surprised if BH stumbles here.

Eazy you nailed it!  You are getting wiser in your old age...  I will bring you that t-shirt if you are coming to the Dawson series, but I can't guarantee you a seat (those are getting tough to find at our games).  Thanks to all the BH fans who have been traveling to the games, our kids really appreciate it.

  8. The final was 2-0 in 8 innings.  BH out hit Magnolia 5-2 thru 7 innings and left 9 stranded.  Tense moment in the 6th when Magnolia had two on and the nine hole hit a bomb to lf foul by maybe 10 feet...  Both pitchers threw excellent games with unusual hot and humid weather (first game of the year I didn't bring a jacket!)  In the top of the 8th BH had one reach on an error and double off the wall to put runners at 2nd and 3rd.... Squeeze was on but the pitch was high and got by to score the go ahead run.  Same batter got the bunt down and no play at the plate for the second run to score.  Magnolia went down in order in the bottom of the 8th.

BH has broken the 3rd round jinx!  Next up Santa Fe in the fourth round who defeated Angleton 4-1 in one game series.

    Whew!  The pressure is off...

  9. As stated in my previous post "you are only hurting kids" by posting on this thread.  You are making the choice to continue... Kid hater is my take on it, or possibly drunk as pointed out by one of our Dayton friends.

Fact is everyone posting on this thread is ignorant as to the facts.  GCMproud, you should only post if you can form complete sentences.  UGK, I don't hate my life and I will continue to take up for this group of kids.

  10. Well I'm sure it will all come out in the end. I think Gage is s fair man and would be shocked if he just suspended her for something insignificant. For now I wouldn't discuss this subject or make accusations and would just let it play out. I hope dayton and bh meet in the regional finals.

This was the best post so far, but even this one is inaccurate (Gage did not suspend the coach, the superintendent put the coach on administrative leave).  Bottom line is people need to quit guessing and fishing (including the news media).  The problem does not involve a jealous parent or anything of that nature.  The complaint was lodged by an individual who is bound to a code of conduct and that person did the right thing.  Time for people from BH to "step up" and stay off facebook, twitter, or in news reports.  Let the team finish their season, you are only trying to hurt kids.  Most outsiders have done a good job of holding their tongue.  The remainder of the season belongs to the girls on this team.

If someone feels the need to be self serving, get on your favorite social media site and tell the world how good the team is, or how great your daughter is!

Thank you Bronco Pride for this comment, "For now I wouldn't discuss this subject or make accusations and would just let it play out".  It is ironic that this comment comes from our biggest rival Dayton.

Thank you Sir/or Mam for your respectfulness.

  11. Well, I'm glad I went to the game because I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't.  The Dayton Broncos came to play tonight!  They started it with a 3 run HR, and chased the starting pitcher in the 1st inning while putting up 8 runs.  The Bears seemed completely unnerved after the HR, as they made 5 infield errors tonight.  Every Dayton batter had a hit tonight and all but one scored as well.  Presley Bell was phenomenal as she no-hit the Bears, striking out 12.  Bell faced 16 batters in 5 innings, and only 4 Montgomery hitters could put the ball in play.  The only hitter to reach base did so on a strikeout.

I can't remember the last time Montgomery was run ruled, especially at home.  It will take a drastic turnaround for the Bears to come back and claim this series, but they can do it.  Congrats to Dayton for the decisive win tonight.

If I didn't know any better I would think Eazy is becoming a 19-4A believer!  Eazy, we are going to grant you a one time reprieve to come over from the "dark side" and join the 19-4A bandwagon...  I will buy you you a BH playoff shirt and save you a seat at all the remaining games this season.

Congrats Dayton, big win!  I am not surprised.  People are underestimating the the level of pitching in 19-4A.

  12. Congrats to Lumberton on a great season.  Nice to see a new team in the playoffs.  I got to see their playoff for 4 seed with Livingston and they had a great comeback.  Big fan turnout for them tonight, and the biggest I have ever seen for BH.  The Lumberton pitcher, Maddison Ohler kept the Hill under wraps for four innings (1-0 thru 4), very nice job!  A lot of young players on their squad with the Jr pitcher returning should bode well for next season.  Good luck to the Lady Raiders next season!

  13. No doubt that BH probably has a 90% chance of going 14-0 in district.  Dayton is capable of beating BH on any given day if they bring their A game.  However, BH is the top team here and should continue to roll (but not past the 3rd round).

Eazy, you must have taken the same Statistics course I took in college.. It was my only "C" in college.. my instructor didn't speak English!  90% chance huh?  You pulled that out of your backside just like every other time you open your mouth on this forum.  That karma monster is about to jump on you just like last year with all your predictions about 18-4A...  Just let the girls play, your wisdom is not necessary.

Good luck to all the teams entering the playoffs.  As most of the older boys will tell you, in order to get to Austin you have to have a lot of talent and a little bit of luck.  Starting next week any team can win State, that's why they play it off.

  14. Senior's night at Barbers Hill.  Recognition tonight for our 7 Seniors who are all college bound...  We defeated New Caney tonight 6-0 in 7 innings.  The NC pitcher had our girls off balance for most of the night until the 6th inning.  Just wanted to make a post to congratulate our Seniors on going undefeated in district play for all four years of their HS careers.  They were a perfect 60-0 in district play over a four year stretch.  Along the way we saw many great battles especially with Crosby who took us to extras more than once and always played us tough.  Dayton probably gave us the biggest scare this year in a 12 inning affair where they were one pitch away from handing us our only district loss.  New Caney, Kingwood Park, Baytown Lee have been competitive on several occasions.  The competition has only made our group stronger and any success we have is as a result of playing good competition.

Looking back, it is amazing that these girls were able to go undefeated as freshman and sophomores.  Of course, much of that success was at the hands of upper classman in those early years...  Games that come back to memory include game winning hits from Maddie Sumrall and Jessie Rodriguez in crucial situations against Crosby.  Other upper classman who impacted our team heavily were Kelsey Lee, Rylan Harvey, and Kimberlin Naiver.  Without their leadership and clutch performances 60-0 would have been impossible.

Looking forward to our playoff run this year whatever that may be... Regardless of the outcome this is one amazing group of girls who have compiled a 111-14 (this record excludes scrimmage games, but counts all preseason, district, and playoff games) record in four years of HS softball leading into this years playoffs.

Amazing!  Glad I got to watch all 125 games!

  15. Thursday pools were rained out so tournament was changed to double elimination tournament without pool seeding.  The bracket we played in included Cy Fair 2 (assume this was their JV) vs Oak Ridge, Nederland (ranked #14 in TGCA 4A) vs Cy Fair (ranked #1 in TGCA 5A), Barbers Hill vs Klein Oak (ranked #2 in TGCA 5A), and Kingwood vs Cy Woods.  Winners in round one were Oak Ridge, Cy Fair, Barbers Hill (5-1 over Klein Oak), and Kingwood (in ITB).  Second round winners were Cy Fair over Oak Ridge (1-0) and Barbers Hill over Kingwood 4-0.  Oak Ridge beat Kingwood in 3rd place game 12-1.  Barbers Hill beat Cy Fair in the championship 4-0.  The competition at this tournament was excellent, but the officiating was poor (both ways).

I think BH record is 10-0 (4-0 district record) on the season not including a .500 win/loss percentage in 6 scrimmages early in the season.  Played Vidor, Clear Falls, Kingwood, Magnolia, and Atascocita X 2 in scrimmages.  IMO, best two teams we have faced were Cy Fair and Atascocita, with the edge to AHS.  Barbers Hill has 7 Seniors, 2 Juniors, and 1 Soph consistantly in the starting line up (including DH).  We also have several Freshman and Soph's making an impact when they get an opportunity.  Next year BH will have a highly competitive team.

Curious how Nederland did against Cy Fair and into the Consolation bracket...?  Hey Cooper, are you out there?  I know all the SR parents have geared it down, but tell me how the season is going...

  16.
So proud of these young ladies probably the second biggest win of the season (besides the clear springs game) can anyone give any insight on this one and I know barbers hill vs ozen has been a very anticipated game this whole yr does barbers hill have a chance?
"Does Barbers Hill have a chance?"  Pretty sure they will show up at the Campbell Center at 1 pm... You bet they have a chance!  ;)
