So if Buna wins on Friday nite, after your Calculus equations and physic's formulas on tie breakers..... Buna  would be District Champs by themselves right? ......  just seems like the easier thing to do for everybody.  Kountze could just save their pitching for playoffs ....  just an idea?

  2. Buna committed 6 errors in the fifth inning to go with the 8 hits by Kirbyville.  Kirbyville made Buna pay for their mistakes like a good team should.  I was extremely impressed with the 7 hits Buna had against Kirbyville's pitcher, fairly sure she has not be hit like that in a while.  The better team won, but it wash't without a little noise from Buna.  And yes the freshman pitcher from Buna had a good night, one of many to come hopefully.

to clarify, 8 hits total by kville and 7 total by Buna in the game.  Kville did a great job putting the ball in play the 5th inning for sure.

  4. Warren 7-2    now 8-2
    Kountze 7-2 now 8-2
    Buna 7-2 now  8-2
    Hardin 5-4 now 5-5??
    Kirbyville 5-4  now 5-5??
    Anahauc 3-6 now   3-7
    East Chambers 1-8
    Deweyville 1-8

IT GETS EVEN TIGHTER! REAL BASEBALL DRAMA

what are the standing now, I am thinking 8 wins will get you in.

how many wins do you think it will take to DC??   I will be shocked if anyone wins out in top 3.

I am thinking 11 wins, wins district or ties for co-district

    any thoughts?

  5. Straddling the plate without the ball is not a good defensive position. The runner has the right to reach the base. Absolutely any malicious contact would warrant an ejection but the runner is not required to slide. I would think the catcher should have positioned herself to catch the ball in front of the plate where she could then drop to block the plate after she has possession. If the catcher does not allow access to the plate prior to having possession of the ball, then obstruction should be called and the runner would be safe at the last base the umpire judged she would have reached without the obstruction. I agree that we need to protect the kids from unnecessary contact. Not sure how the catcher has been taught to receive a throw. If she is taught to straddle the plate, then I'm surprised this is the first time she has been ran into.

I am glad you agree yal need to protect the kids from unnecessary contact, and that is what happened here, again it was just my view of the play.  It was a bang bang play on a bunt, the catcher came out of her stance to get ball, heeded to 3B to get ball and took a position best she could to receive the ball and what happened happened.  I certainly teach all kids that I coach or train to slide in that case for not only their own safety and the catcher but more often than not you will disrupt the defense more by sliding.  If you teach differently, then we will just have to agree to disagree, I am thankful that most watching the game from both sides shared my point of view.  I just thought this ump might want to reconsider the danger he condoned by not making the call.  The result really had no bearing on the outcome of the game, other than putting ideas into players heads that it was ok.  Again my opinion, and in my opinion the rule supports that, which I am very grateful.  I do appreciate your point of view, and certainly respect the fact that you did not see it live.

  6. My opinion of the play was the catcher was straddling the plate, and yes the catcher was attempting to make a play on the ball and the runner interfered  with that and should be out for that.  I agree the runner did not have to slide but she could have and should have avoided contact.  Only my eyes, my angle on the play  and my interpretation of the sequence of events.  Had the interference been malicious, and definitely I think it was not, umpire could have then warranted an ejection.

  7. I don't know about Kirbyville, seems like they aren't living up to the hype at all, I heard they got rolled pretty easy Monday night with their ace on the mound.  I assume they thought Kountze was a much more important game than this Friday.  I think Friday between Buna and Kirbyville will really tell us where the district stands.  Warren always plays competitive ball but don't get a lot of respect .  I think they will be a spoiler for sure for at least one of the other 3.  Then there is always EC who I hear has had their struggles but still has the talent available..... so who knows.  I just hope it comes down to all the game mattering so whomever heads to playoffs is the most ready to represent the district well.  Goodluck to everyone!!!

    Buna

    Kountze

    Warren

    EC

ok.... I missed it pretty big on EC, I still think they are not as bad as their record but it is what you do on the field that counts.

  8. I appreciate what you guys do, the pay you do it for and hostility you subject yourself to take part in a very exciting event that provides many life lessons to athletes that may not learn them anywhere else.  I do believe that your number one responsibility is to maintain a safe environment for the athletes to compete fairly against one another.

I know most of you guys pride yourselves on doing the best job you can, and I say thank you.  One of your team fell short last night, and that is fine no one living is perfect right?  But you guys might want to pick him up and help him understand his mistake so the safety of the game can remain of the upmost importance of the game.

There was a play at home where runner did not slide( (I know now NFHS rules say you don't have to), so that is fine, but if the runner interferes with defensive player, there must be a penalty, the rules state it.  In this case the catcher got blind sided who was not blocking the plate.  And by blind sided I mean taken off her feet and planted straight on her back.  Was not malicious in my view and may have happened anyway if runner would have slide.  BUT, the runner did not slide and caused serious chance for injury.  Catcher popped up stunned but continued to play without any obvious affects from collision.  Runner should have been out and told they should have avoided contacting the defensive player.

Thanks again for what you do, I am hopeful you will lend this guy a hand.  No harm NO foul right...this time!

    according to NFHS

â€œART. 13 . . . The runner does not legally slide and causes illegal contact and/or illegally alters the actions of the fielder in the immediate act of making a play on her. Runners are never required to slide but, if the runner elects to slide, the slide shall be legal.”

  9. well in a way they do...the umpires pick the TASO All Star line-up...or atleast I think they do.I

Yes, of course but it covers several districts at a time, if I remember correctly, I was suggesting to  carry that over to each district for 1st and 2nd team pics and of course you MVP picks --- I realize no system is perfect and no matter what there is always an angle/point of view that it seems unfair.  Coaches are at a disadvantage because they only see kids playing their team most of the time.  To their defense, they can only vote on what they see live  and what they are told statistically by the players coaches.  The umpires see the kids playing in all sorts of environment.  That being said, I think they do a great job overall with the TASO selections.

  10. I just realized the topic was to pick kids, I thought it was pick how the district would end up ......   sorry to get off topic.

I think it would cool if we had some sort of a system whereby the umpires submitted some sort of grading system or ranking of what they saw on the field.  All umpires that worked the district would get to submit game by game and good keep their votes private if they wanted.  I think they have the best available perspective on who is a standout outfielder, infielder, pitcher, catcher and by letting them all vote you might be able to factor out favoritism.  Let's face it, what coach wouldn't stand behind their own players as much as possible.

Our district is definitely blessed with some good athletes and some baseball talent.  But you got to get it done on the filed.  Like the quote says  "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard"  I enjoy watching these boys reach their potential regardless of the name on the front or the back of the jersey.

  11. Warren - Team to beat right now, steady and simple and just getting it done.

Kountze - Flashes of dominance followed with glimpses of doom - if they figure it out, they could take control

Buna - Pretty much the steady eddie of the crowd, whether you love em or hate em, they are 5-2

fourth is up for whoever wants to go get it.

Hardin is my pick to get done.
