  1. Orangefield is going to be okay...rain really messed up the gameplan today for both teams. Orangefield was very basic on offense because of the weather, but moved the ball well all day. Passing game looked sharp and that was without Helton at receiver. I've been impressed with Coach Smalley as offensive coordinator.

Defense needs some work, but Huffman was big and did somethings our guys haven't seen. Mansfield played no defense today due to a bad back. He's got to get better, he's very solid at defensive end and he's a game changer. But overall, once they made a few adjustments we slowed down their ground game, but Huffman threw the ball well. Huffman is a solid football team, they'll compete in that district.

Orangefield is small and has a depth problem...if they can stay away from the injury bug they can compete.

  2. Beaumont Gladiators

The Beaumont Gladiators 9-and-under select baseball team will conduct a tryout on Aug. 12 at Ford Fields.

The tryout will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will be held on Field No. 6. The Gladiators are looking for a maximum of two players to complete their roster.

For information, call Jeff Edmonds at (409) 201-5392.

  3. Wow tough to pick the top three in this district, but I'll try.

    1. Orangefield - Lost only one starter from a team that lost by one point to the 3A State Champs China Spring.

    2. Silsbee - Talent at the guard position will keep these Tigers in the race.

    3. West Orange-Stark - One Brittany is gone, but another Brittany is still around. If she can get some help the Stangs will be playoff bound again.

    4. Hamshire Fannett - The Lady Horns could finish higher, will give some teams match up problems.

    5. Hardin Jefferson - Will field a solid team, but still a year or two away.

    6. Kirbyville - New coach in the mix, Wildcats could surprise some teams.

    7. Bridge City - Should be improved from last year, could also be a surprise team.

    8. Jasper - Lost point guard to graduation, could be tough year for the Lady Dawgs.

  4. I rode up to the school (Orangefield) this afternoon to see our new scoreboard, which is nice and noticed that we have also put up play clocks at each end of the stadium. We've always wanted and needed them, but was wondering if this was a district policy to have them now? Anyone know?

  5. I was on deck my senior year and watched in amazement as Jeff Granger hit one over the light poles in left center field for a grand slam homerun. Back then we played our games where the girls softball field is now, well where it use to be before Rita. Anyway, he hit it so far that it landed in the elementary parking lot and a couple of bounces later it was rolling across hwy 105. Never seen anything like it!!! He definetly hit some bombs.

Also my Junior year, saw Ronnie Comeaux hit one to dead center field against SFA that hit halfway up the building that was 30ft behind the fence, and rolled across the street. Sign in CF said 410ft...monster shot!!!

  6. Stang4life, where does your hatred for Orangefield come from? I have read all your post the last two years and you can tell that you can't stand us. What's the deal? I don't recall anyone disrespecting your Lady Stangs on this site or any other. But anytime you believe that your ladies have been treated unfairly you go off. Get Real!!!

Next, I saw WOS play 5-6 times this year and rarely did I see more than 6 girls even get to play...and your complaining that Orangefield had 5 players that made the 1st and 2nd team. Give me a break!!! Do you really believe that players 5 and 6 from WOS should have been on the 1st or 2nd team. They rode the coat tails of both Brittany's all year and in my opionion are very lucky to have even made hon. mention.

Then there is your hatred for our Coach, Coach Ancelot. Let me tell you this...If Coach Ancelot would have been coaching your team this year, they would have been cutting down the nets in Austin. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!! And your precious Coach Orebo was coach of the year. Hell I could have coached that team and won as many games as she did. Oh well, these are just my opinions though!!!

  7. Stop blaming this loss on the officials. We got beat, plain and simple as that. HJ wanted it more than we did last night and they deserved the win. They played good team ball and got after us, something that we use to do. We can't just show up and expect to win. Teams aren't scared to play us anymore, we're going to get everyone's best effort every night and we have to step up and take on the challenge. We're not doing that right now. The last time we played together as a team was against Silsbee. If these girls don't grow up quick and get their game back together, they'll be on that track sooner than they expected.
