1. Give your opinion as to where we are or evidence you have seen to the contrary.

I am aware of the general principle as it depends and can be regional.

I am at 96 and 255 and I saw hard evidence of pre-rut activity in Mid to late Oct.. scrapes .. rubs.. all of this is none existent right now.. which leads me to believe they have been breeding for around two to three weeks or more and  we are done... someone please give evidence of the contrary.. buck nose down on doe trail etc.

grabbing for straws and do not want it to end just yet.

Still waiting for all those "monster bucks" at the Moore Plantation this 13" rule was supposed to provide us.. There were a grand total of 3 weighed in at the check station
opening weekend off of 26000+ acres. One was 14" and one a 16" . Not sure of the third
Maybe it will take a few more years , this is only the 4th or maybe even the 5th year we have had this stupid law

We are 10 miles from the Moore and it was very slow for us opening weekend as well. I had a friend (ex pres.. of our lease) that after the first week or so he would hunt the Moore exclusively.. He loved the place as well as another member we have.  I have not been out there since 07

Now my cousin on the other hand who hunts in Colmesneil said they have harvest some monsters this year as well some other folks in Corrigan.  The Corrigan guys have been doing the management thing for 20 plus years... it works.
  3. Shot a big fat doe Sunday evening. Picked one out of a group of three. It's funny how they seem to stick around for a few minutes after the first one goes down.. finally they got the message and fled. One young buck.. possible spike.. it was a good ways off (220 plus yards)... did not need any accidents on a four point. was just hanging around. My cousin ( who had been drinking) says shoot it.. shoot it cuz !

I am not that greedy anymore.

after we got chomped on by the mosquitos after dark.. he thanked me for not killing anymore.
  4. Sharkfutbol... now that myself and Watash girls have left.. its time for you to keep us abreast of the stats!

You know things like how many throw-ins, goal kicks and  whistles for fouls.. just the important details... do not bother with the scores.. who is counting anyway. LOL

    or delegate it to BOX-T

jumped a BIG east Texas buck this morning walking from my stand to check our feeders on the pipeline.  i got a good look with my binoculars, and i'd say 18 or 19 inch spread with good mass and tall, too.  i coulda taken a shot, but i wasn't comfortable shooting through 100 yards of burnt out trees freehand at a buck facing me head-on.  now that i'm back to the cabin, i'm starting to wish i had, but it was the right decision not to shoot.  i know some people might be comfortable taking that shot, but i haven't hunted much, and have never shot at a big buck, so i wouldn't feel confident with that.

    What time was that?

wait a couple  more hours and your going to wish you did.

    good decision.
  6. I have had the same three bags of corn in my camper since opening weekend ( Jasper area 96 @ 255) some corn I put out the week before gun season still on the ground beginning to get that old sour look. Saw some big white oak acorns around the same time.. saw none on Sunday but alot of red oak acorns on the ground. My trail cam pics are down to near zero as well.. Had one buck  running across the lane on one camera and a doe and yearling on another high tailing it across another fire lane. Yearling look like it was saying WAIT FOR ME MOM!
  7. Update... spoke to Mike Zeto Pres of BYSC and was told the two organizations were working on the details of a merger... it is their goal to get r done!

This is great for area soccer and with a indoor facility on their playing grounds gives them a leg up on any competing organizations.

The future looks bright... and this is coming from someone who was a strong supporter of them joining Albion... I am glad they did not listen.

They have a new young trainer... who can grow with the organization and develop it into something special...

gotta go put my soccer clothes on the grand opening is in an hour.. hope to kick a ball around a bit before the kids over run the place at 4.

    see ya there.
  8. Let a doe walk yesterday at 7:15am due to the fact she kept looking back as if being followed by Mr. Muy Grande... 9:15am still applauding my efforts for not pulling the trigger and possibly blowing an opportunity at a nice buck... 2:15pm pissed I did not smoke that ol gal!!!!

7:15pm Wife is pissed I did not bring home the backstrap! You cannot eat horns she says... no she did not really say that  but it sounded good.. she was pissed about the backstrap though.

Thought SFA was going to receive an at Large Bid!  They had a great season and felt like they deserved it!  Great year for Zuri and thanks for keeping us all updated!  Talk to you soon...
Me too. And I refused to believe what Zuri told me that her coach had told them.. that if they did not win the Championship they would be out.

So hoping against hope I went to the web site at the appointed time. And just got Bummed again.

Next year they should be favored to win again. They are loosing Texas State and UTSA to the WAC.
  10. SFA beat UTSA 2-0 in a very hard fought match... Zuri played 15 minutes and I was stoked ( to use a surfing term) she played well and got the win.

Well since she only played 15 in that game I told my wife not to rush to the final because she would probably not play in the 1st half.

Well sure enough due to an injury she started and played roughly 27 minutes per half... and they lost. 1-0

Now what did I learn ( how I matured)  I would now take less time and a victory then more time and a significant loss.

SFA dominated the match with 13 corner kicks to 1 and shots were  16 to  6 with 6-2 on goal but their first was the one that counted.
it came off of a throw in that was played long in the air.. our usually solid defender had a wiff and the player went to goal and buried it along with our dreams of SLC Championship and our bid to the NCAA tournament.. so to say the least I am bummed.

I expect a rebound from SFA next year because they have an excellent 2012 recruiting class. So Zuri better work hard in the off season or prepare to see more bench time.

Thanks for letting me post college soccer news on the high school site!

Hey it's deer season.. let's go hunting!
  11. I do not know any details.. but I like to give my opinion.  I know that the two boards are trying to work together for a unified effort. What that entails I have no idea but I heard from John Werner that the two organizations were working together cooperatively.  In the past that just would not happen.

This is a great thing for area soccer.
  12. It would not surprise me.... The late great Jan Van Beveren once said that we put too much emphasis on winning and not enough on developing good players here in the US... it kindof makes since if you take the score and victory out of the game the coach might be more apt to experiment with his or her roster... in the early years the trend ( I was guilty of the same offense myself in U9 and U10) you put the best athletes up front and generally the worst in goal. My five best players were the two forwards and three midfielders.. we did not let the ball get to the goal in most occasions... I am glad that someone was smart enough to put Bailey Fontenot in the goal at an early age like U10.... not what I would have done since she was a great athlete and field player.. but she became the player she is today because of it

    Way to go Emily!!!!!

It would be nice to see some of the talented girls from the area playing at Lamar.  Why search far and wide for talent when it is right here in your own back yard?
I guess because it sounds cooler if you say you got a player from California.. that know one has heard of.

I do not know but he is blowing it from a marketing standpoint... the team itself was better than I expected when they played SFA  who dominated most all of their conference opponents with the exception of the Lady Cardinals and Texas State.

Those are the only two teams that concern me going into the Conference tournament because they were the only two teams that held SFA to one goal each game.

Not true. Stowe had 7 minutes of playing time.
Keep the facts straight Dave!

since I did not see or hear her enter the game. I assumed she did not play.

Yes I checked your research and you are right Kat did enter the game at around the 83rd minute. By then I had lost focus.... i wish I would have seen her.. it would have been great to see the improvement.

Dave did you watch the game online?

ps  how about a congrags for that SLC reg season Championship :D

pss Good luck in the Great West Championships
