  1. Called in a 8pt on Nov 13th and shot it really fun hunt.   Daughter who never hunted before killed her first deer ( a spike) while I was gone to get the truck. Nov 28th .  As soon as I left 3 deer came out... 2 made it back to cover one took a dirt nap... Craziest thing had my two 20 sumtin daughters in the stand with me day after thanksgiving.. sat from 6am to 10am... left to get the truck and when I returned they bound out the stand saying, "we got one !!!!!!!"  Yeah Right.... then the youngest handed me my binoculars and there it was dead as a door knob. Prince family had a good year!

Sad thing is we only took 3 deer off our 1100 acre lease.  I say sad cause 9 members did not even get an opportunity.  Just very very low deer sightings. I hunted many days many stands..... extreme caution to wind and scent and only saw 3 deer all season long... my brother in law has not seen a deer in 3 seasons.. now he only makes 3 or 4 hunts per year.  but is this typical for east texas and if so why ?  And will killing fewer deer as Campbell timber has prescribed increase deer sightings over time. Since enacting the 13inch rule ( Which I like) 2 or 3 deer killed on our lease has been the rule not the exception but deer sightings have not increased! The good news is I am usually one of those two or three members each year.

  2. No one tell HBU they are not giant slayers cause they went into the SLC tournament full of grit, determination and confidence and pulled of what others would have called an upset... but for them what they would say was just taking care of business as they have done for the last several weeks of the season.

Congrats to Natalie Hagar (PN-G grad) for playing an amazing game and sending in the cross that surely iced the game early in the 2nd half.

    final score was 2-0

SFA lead total shots but HBU lead in accuracy more shots on goal and obviously more in tha net !

Of course I was saddened by the fact that this would be Zuri's last collegiate game and after winning 4 consecutive regular season titles another shot at A&M would have been great but not in the cards for us. The good news is she is in talks with the Boston Breakers to come and work out with them in the near future..... It was her last collegiate game but surely not her last competitive game... can I post Boston Breaker results here in the high school forum. LOL

Thanks for being so supportive of Zuri and her high school and college career and we will keep u posted on the progress.

Again Hats off to Natalie, Dave and Carmen Hagar for a great weekend and great result!!!

    Gig some Aggies!

  3. SFA won their unprecedented  4th Consecutive  Conference Regular Season Championship going 11-0 in 2014 and as a Class combined for a conference record of 38-1-1 in the regular season conference play.

They will play this Friday night 7pm at Lamar to begin their conference tournament play where they are 1-2... aiming to bring that mark to .500 !!! this is proof positive you can dominate the regular season and evening tournament matches but anything can happen in the playoffs.

Well tha kid showed out for Senior night this past Friday scoring the games only goal off a set piece that made Sports Centers top 10 goals at #4 and #6 for top ten plays. video below. i will put both versions cause the actual footage is cleaner.

    Come join us this weekend.

ps  PN-G's own Natalie Hagar and HBU Huskies have made and incredible  7 game run to qualify for this weekends post season play.... come on you Injuns  come support Nat!

  8. Hello all my faithful SETX soccer fans.... its been awhile since ol Rip posted some Zuri news ( or SFA) for that matter.

This summer she decided to  play in the WPSL for Houston South Select... for you old ladies who do not want to hang up your soccer cleats after high school or college this is a great place to get your soccer fix.. most players are college players or former college players and the quality is very good.

Well on Sunday they played the Fort Worth Panthers who have a formidable roster of current and former Baylor and Texas Tech players figured it was going to be a very tough game.  They the Panthers scored first very early and Zuri was playing very lack luster and very unenthused... had me and about half her new teammates pretty upset.... typical not making runs.. not getting back to defend even though she is playing the high forward spot. One of her teammates yelled at her MAKE A RUN.... AND i ECHOED YEAH 91...her new number... MAKE A DANG RUN. Why am I the only fan yelling these days?  Funny thing the night before she was telling me her teammates were not passing her the ball as much as she would like and I was thinking... I see why..... I do not blame them. Half time whistle finally blows and I am thinking geez why did I come... Its like playing golf for me I am just getting PO ed.  Well second half starts and what do you know she begins to make runs and about two minutes into the half she receives a cross from a wing player and and just as the very very tall long armed goalie is about to haul it in .... in comes Zuri.....Abby Wambach style.....Goal ! Best header goal I have ever seen from the kid..... ok ok wow you got one paw out the dog house.. now the game is tied at 1 apiece.. then not two minutes later she breaks through two defenders and has a sharp angle but still a clear shot at the goal.. ball narrowly misses far post.  Man I am thinking that would have been unbelievable one minute you are the least liked player on the team this day to now putting your team ahead in less than four minutes of the second half.... well I guess you cannot have it all.... Not so fast..... ten minutes later the Kelly Grad ( had to plug that in for Sharkfutbol) has a near identical situation where she bust through two defenders and some how recovers the ball and bam..... this time back of the net!!!!!!! 2-1 South Select final score... she went from outhouse to penthouse in about twenty minutes. I had one  player come up and apologize for yelling at her in the first half.. I told the young lady you were only doing what I wish I could do and not appear to be the only unsophisticated fan in the stands.

I did a little research on the South Select roster and a set of Twins have been playing for the Colombian National program for the last 5 years.. they have even faced our National team and told Zuri the Real Abby Wambach is HUGE!!!!

RIP the Fab 5 tied them their Junior year when our current Lady Dawg Seniors were freshman. We actually were winning 1 - 0 until the last minute of the game they came and tied us.
Our Lady Dawgs fought hard and it was so nice to have a level playing field with unbiased referees in San Antonio. It was amazing. I have waited six seasons for this game. So the current Seniors have a win and a tie against Agnes under their belt. The lady Dawgs showed great sportsmanship on their win as well. So proud.
    Go DAWGS.

Thanks for the reminder B T your right I was at that game in Houston when Kelly lead 1-0 through the majority of the game.

Settle down! It's just a joke - not trying to get personal. And I can almost gurantee you that most people probably chuckled a bit at that line, and honestly, it IS the truth. A post about UIL soccer is against form.

Bullets, I'm doing well. Ready to crank the season up. We only lost 3 seniors from last year's team that went three rounds deep, and one of our returners was the leading scorer in 5A in San Antonio last year.

Ok I am sorry... You are right any post other than SFA post are abnormal at this time..  You have any female talent to send SFA's way we are loosing 5 contributing Seniors...one played in the Olympics for South Africa. We need a distributing (ala point guard) center midfielder, two outside mids and one center back and one outside back... premier or solid div 1 experienced preferred.
    thanks for your help!

Rip, i really enjoy keeping up with Zuri, so I hope you continue to post all the SFA info.... She is a fine athlete and more important a fine young lady!  My daughter had the opportunity to play with her and against her this past summer at the elite camp.  Keep the posts coming and congratulations on your daughters accomplishments!

Thanks for the compliments and it is good to be here!!!
  11. saw a shooter once I glassed him.... he gave me all of  5 to 8 seconds to process(legal not legal) then he was gone.. wish I would have picked up the rifle instead of the binos! Could have killed two birds with one stone or at least one buck. LOL  More daylight pics as of the 11th on my cameras

Have you noticed any difference being on LAMPS?  is the hunting any better or worse and how is the overall herd doing with regards to size/weights?
    [/quote]

Not really.... the crazy thing is we receive 11 permits per year and only kill 3 or 4 does each year. We never tag out on does... and it is not because we are not trying and being selective.

As far as our herd goes we have a few  nice deer in my humble opinion
We have one 5.5yr old 9 pt that will score in the mid 130's if given the chance to be killed... he is a smart Old Coot.

but we always kill more bucks than does and it's not by choice it's just what presents more opportunities... If I had to guess and this is not scientific just based on past harvest trends we have more bucks than does per capita. I have only killed one doe on our lease in hunting there for 10years and I only passed on one once and that was last year and that will not happen again. I hunt in the far south end of our lease and I have all the buck pictures in the Summer and my Northern neighbors have all the does.. so guess where my bucks go come Rut.... you guessed it that all haul butt to the North and Central part of our lease.

Sunday morning my friend shot a nice 8pt 15 1/4 inside spread that went 110 to 112 and weighed 158lb live weight and 132 field dressed.. he was a big body deer.

Thanks Shark.... Friday comes the big test we play #12 Texas A&M at their place... cannot wait... reminds me of her last Kelly Game. going in to slay the Giant Ursuline... if they put up a performance anything remotely similar to that Kelly game I will be soooo proud.. 3 goals down with 5 minutes left and they finish 7-6... that was the best game ever!
