Radio said it might have been a bottle rocket.  Either way the cops were over there pretty fast.

Definitely wasn't a bottle rocket. Had to have been a flare based on how slow it was moving. Looked like they arrested the idiot though.. hope he learns a lesson and does some time.

great game by others teams though.. Johnson carried PNG tonight and we couldn't stop him. Glad we came out on top, great game Dogs!

Brian Spell as OC?  Father and son coordinators.  Pretty neat if it happens.

No reason Monte couldn't continue calling O plays, but B. Spell is capable too. Might be a hybrid type or situational type of role. But congrats to coach Barrow. Very well deserved. I can tell you the rest of the district was probably hoping for a non-Larry Neumann guy. I am just glad the board and supt. didn't botch this. Great job!

As a side note: I am willing to bet that Neumann had a big, big influence and sway on this decision. There's nothing better than a revered and legendary coach going to bat for you..

  3. Maybe it was just bad angles or something, but was anyone else horrified at the officiating? I can let go of one or two bad calls in a game, but it felt like this crew was completely lopsided on the calls. I didn't understand all of the PF calls, nothing looked out of line to me. I also didn't understand a couple of the PI calls especially when our WR gets tackled and there's nothing. In addition, the TD pass in the back of the endzone looked incomplete to me. Again, this may have been a bad viewing angle as I was in the upper deck, but it seemed as if they tried to give the game to NC whenever they could and rarely called anything against them (blatant stuff). Anyway, just checking to see if I was completely blind...

  4. Great game and a hard fought victory for Nederland. Vidor is going to make some noise in district. Those kids played tough. First game for me this year but my first observations are the following: Lebaron is legit. That long TD pass in the first quarter was a thing of beauty. I know Krautz has big play ability and is a beast, but I think if we would've passed it more tonight, the win may have been easier. Vidor's secondary is sub par and there were open recievers a lot. As for Nederland's defense... I know we stacked the box for a reason against Vidor, but I would have liked a safety a little further back and instructed him to not attack the run, only be there if the runner made it through the first two levels. That said, I'm not a coach and they are far more knowledgable than me. Just an observation. All in all it was a great game between two good teams. I thought officiating was terrible, for both sides. There was a PF called on Nederland early that was a really bad call, then Vidor had a worse late hit that wasn't called. In Vidor's defense I wasn't sure the one against them in the 4th was a good call. Far away from where I was but it didn't look terrible. At any rate kudos to Vidor and Big Ned got the job done. 1-0...

  5. I have no prediction for this game but anything can happen. As for the Neumann discussion... I have seen posts on here about how he doesn't have any standouts on his resume and what not. It's not always as simple as that though. It's what a coach does with the talent and circumstances he is given. I can say that he certainly gets every drop out of the talent he is given and preaches a team effort. Just a couple of recent examples I can give: Nederland lost 3 qb's and was down to a fourth string QB and still made it to the playoffs. Also, the game against #1 Pearland Dawson a couple of years ago at Reliant. The deck was stacked against that Nederland team right up until the end of regulation on a bizarre penalty against Dawson that worked to their advantage (QB spiked the ball on 4th down but got penalized for illegal motion allowing them time to get their field goal unit in place.) Nederland still prevailed in OT. At any rate, there are numerous examples like these where Neumann gets teams to rise up to opponents levels. Is he the best coach that ever lived? I'm not saying that, but you'll be hard pressed to find a Bulldog faithful that is looking forward to his retirement. I wouldn't hesitate to guess that most coaches in SETX would put him at the top of their lost as best in the area. I'm sure Faircloth would whole heartedly agree with that sentiment.
