And I think that stress on defense is a big key in WOS's success. Yes I know that's pretty obvious, but I have often felt that high school teams should put more of their emphasis and even more of their best players on defense and force the other team to score against their best. Yes you need a good qb and at least a solid receiver but emphasize the defense and limit the other teams points and you have a great chance of winning.

That didn't take long, (armchair coaching).

Problem isn't with offense only.  Silsbee lacks tackling ability.  Team score way to easily on the Tigers.

Coldspring:  30 carries for 190 yds of offense, TONIGHT.
Silsbee:  13 carries for -2 yds.  TONIGHT.  (650 lbs of humans that aren't moving anything, useless.)

Stop someone then maybe you can criticize the passing offense.

We have been spoiled by prolific offensive talented teams.  Be fair when you start judging.

They are young.  Put whoever you want in at QB, wont make a difference.

if 18-30 200 yards in your first varsity game isn't good enough and enough promise for you then that's a dang shame

When my kids were young (son and daughter), I pushed them pretty hard.  I had no illusions about either of them playing at a big time college program or even receiving college scholarships.  My son (football) is the kind of kid who works his butt off, but is missing some essential athleticism.  My daughter is quite athletic (basketball and track), but probably lacks the size+skill set to play at the next level.  I pushed them hard because I wanted them to know that regardless of their talent level they had to devote themselves to improving if they wanted to play. This is I think the lesson that sports can teach our kids.  Success is usually the result of hard work and feeling like you accomplished your goals (whatever they are)  through your own effort is valuable.

My wife and I feel that winning is important and that feeling like you contributed to a team victory is its own reward.  Hard work and playing hard are essential parts of that.  We are honest with our kids.  When they play well, we praise them, but when they dont we tell them. When they make excuses we call them out.  When they get hurt we make it clear that they are still expected to play if they can (there is a difference between hurt and injured). I do some yelling from the stands -- usually I yell hustle, or go rebound ( yelling at your son during a football game is pretty pointless).
Perfect play and results are nearly impossible, but you can play your hardest every time.

I have been dealing with All-District teams in both softball and baseball for the last seven years. As is the case with this team, the superlatives usually reward the most deserving players. Once past that point, not so much. The high school coaches have people that they have to please and keep happy. As will be the case forever, politics and pressure determine a lot of this. I know making this team is important to the kids, but that is just the way it is. The frustrating part is that the name on the back of the shirt in high school ball is sometimes more important than performance on the field, which only does the player injustice once they move on. Congratulations to the kids who made it. It is a nice honor. If you feel you should have made it and you didn't, next year take it out on the coaches that didn't vote for you and make them look bad.

No doubt BC and Silsbee should dominate the list but I question the legitimacy of other picks. This response has no bearing on my own kids that play. This should be based on performance and nothing else! When a coach starts factoring in other components other than a kids potential, he is doing a disservice and injustice to the kids who truly deserve the recognition.  JMO but this list each year looses its credibility.

Good game by both teams. Very competitive by both teams and both pitchers. At some point it would be nice to just compliment all of these young men for their efforts instead of getting in a pissing match every single game. My comments are not meant for any one person. Just comments in general. Some days they all have their best days and other times they don't perform at their best. Unfortunately I have those same days at my job. Great effort by every player I saw play in this game yesterday. Didn't see a kid make an error on purpose, strike out on purpose or even walk someone on purpose. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age or maybe I'm learning to appreciate the time and effort that each kid from each team puts into what they do. Just my opinion. Attack at will. I'm a man. I'm 40, well 48 but you get what I'm saying. lol

I must ask, where did this outrageous, misinterpreted, and obviously misdirected comment come from? I mean no one is asking for respect of their programs, respect is earned. Most importantly no one's (quote) "Bitching", and your agressive tone is definetly not needed. Nederland has done their thing year in and year out in all sports, which makes them what some would say a power house in 20-4a. With that being known and said, no one is going to take a backseat to anyone in the district, regardless of any past accomplishments! The games are played between the lines and you have definitely crossed it with your hostle remark. Let the kids play and the results speak because it sounds better when they do it! IJS

I think everyone in the district will be tough especially WOS. Silsbee will be solid as will BC and Buna.. I dont know much about what OF has coming back but they have been good in the past and Coach Trawhon is a competitor. HF usually has a few good kids as do we so my honest opinion is anyone can win on any given night. Granted Silsbee is all about consistancy so you have to be on your game and hope they have an off night...
