3. Obvioulsy the PA was NO good. Sorry, sloppy typing on my part.
4. TD Mustangs. PA good . 21 sec left. 2 point conversion no good. 6 - 0 WOS
5. Liberty took opening kick-off turned over to Mustangs on downs. 3 & out for Stangs, punted. Liberty 3 & out. Mustangs now have ball on 25 of Liberty.
6. Good luck on making heads or tails from the play by play, but better than nothing.....
7. Looks like the game will be streamed by KTIM. [Hidden Content]
8. Looks like KKHA will carry game as they are the voice of the Black Cats. Here is a link, once again just assuming this will get the game. [Hidden Content]
9. It is crazy, but keep in mind our West Texas brethren have been doing this for years and think nothing of it, it's just the way it is.    I have had discussions with some of them about the travel concerns over in SE TX and they are amused to say the least.
10. UIL & logic never go hand in hand and if these things ever make any sense then we should worry.  Now we know what a lot of the West Texas schools have been doing for years when it comes to long drives.  If you look at Anthony, their shortest trip is about an hour and their longest is about a 4.5 hour drive to Presidio, then they get a couple of short trips of only 3.5 & 4 hours respectfully.  Maybe someone on the committee is from West Texas and just wanted others to feel their pain.
11. Having been in the Radio biz for over 25 years, it has nothing to do with private vs corporate radio.  It has everything to do with being the contractual rights holder to the broadcast.  KLVI/Clear Channel has the broadcast rights to Lamar University Sports and in order to get those rights, which they bid for every few years and are these rights are not free, they typically must agree to broadcast basketball games like Friday night knowing full well a high school football playoff game would give them better ratings, just part of the deal.  There is a big difference between having a contract to broadcast games like the UT football/basketball games, Astro, Ranger, Cowboys or Texan games and being the rights holder. There is probably nothing that would prevent them from broadcasting the Nederland game on one of their other stations if they so choose, but I suppose they are not choosing to do that, too bad.  Oh well you probably know more now than you ever wanted or cared about when it comes to broadcast rights.  It is an interesting business.
12. Some of you old timers on here may remember Curtis Ceasar, (I believe that's his name), played for Hebert back in the early 70's.  One year during the Soul Bowl vs CP played at Lamar, he threw the ball from about his own 30 and the ball hit about half way up the embankment under the scoreboard, I can remember everyone in the stands being kind of stunned on how far he threw it.  Like I said not real accurate but a cannon for an arm.
13.
As a matter of fact, I have been told that when we, WOS, merged is when PNG started using the song. Chrokee was the WO Chiefs fight song. Could be wrong, but that is what I have been told numerous times. Something about that song that just sends chills down your spine. Maybe thats just me though. And its coach Thompsons fault. in 1997, the Monday before the game we were going to play on Friday, he had a boom box in the fieldhouse and literally played Cherokee over, and over, and over. This is no lie, ask him. And just when one side of the tape would finally run out, he would casually walk out of his office and flip it over and hit play. oh, and both us and PNG were undefeated. Believe we were number 2 in state and they were 4 or 5.
The original fight song for West Orange was “Hail to the Victors” but Cherokee became the de facto fight song in the early 70’s.
14. If true, this is good.  This will give us visibility on a national level because of his old man that we haven't had in a while.  Good, bad or indifferent, publicity is publicity.
15. Some constructive criticism, I even hate to call it criticism, maybe helpful advice would be better, anyway too much time passes without the score being known if you are just joining the broadcast.  I joined the broadcast in 2nd quarter and it was about 8 minuters before I heard the score.  If you guys read this here is some helpful advice I was given during an internship while in college back in the late 70's, these guidelines are still relevant.  Always make it a habit to give the score and time on clock during the following situations during the course of the game.        -After a 1st Down        -After change of possession (see below)         -Going into and out of a time out        -At the end and beginning of quarter or half        -After a turn over        -Any other time that you feel necessary. Keep in mind no one complains when the score of time left to play is given too often. I do appreciate your work, overall a nice job of describing game, just need to get the score in a little more often.  I am a SE Texas native but now live in Kansas and this is how I get my high school football fix because Kansas HS football leaves a lot to be desired. BTW....  29-8  WOS over Silsbee at half.
16.
Bridge City went twice that I know of. 1965 lost but I don't remember to who. 1966 won against Mckenny 30-6. I think this is the two years they went. I moved to BC in the late 70's and don't know if they had ever been earlier than the mid 60's.
BC lost to Brownwood.
17. Maybe they can get some sponsorship money for the athletic budget from Whataburger, just change stripes color from blue to orange.
18. Here is an artist rendering of the new Allen Stadium with an accompanying article.  I guess this what 60mil will get you..... [Hidden Content]
19. 77 you are correct, it is about economics and things do change, that's life. Just pointing out this wasn't a program designed to cater to WOS athletes as some have implied. The bus program pre-dates WOS.
20. Ok guys let’s get some prospective on this. The WOC district has been providing bus service for kids in extra-curricular activities since as far back as 1971. This service was open to anyone who participated in after school programs, (I know because I was at West Orange high school when the service began). I assume this policy has not changed until this new policy was announced. I no longer live in Orange, (about 800 miles away), and haven’t for about 25 years but I still keep close ties there. I don’t care what district you live in, if a standard practice is changed after 35+ years I am sure a lot of you would not be happy about it. So for all you out there that think this is something WOS did just to cater to its athletes, your wrong. It was something put into place before a lot of you were on this earth. I am not arguing the merits of this practice or against it, just pointing out that some of you need to engage in a little fact finding before jumping to conclusions.
