1. smitty, 2004 was the last #1 defense which DID end it's season #1. I can't find any internet sites which can back this or the other years other than if you care to meet with me maybe in the Nederland coaches office they can show you proof and stats so that you have the facts. Let me know if you want to be proven wrong with official paper work.
 2. Our current DC has had many #1 ranked defenses in our district throughout his career with Nederland. I guess the years he had #1 defenses it was a fluke. Livingston this week. Livingston player for player will out man us all night. We do not have the players to physically match up against Livingston. We will load the box to stop the run. We will do all the right things with a defensive scheme to stop the run. PLAYERS MAKE THE PLAYS. We will hang with Livingston simply because our players play up. Livingston has four players on offense we simply can not run down if they get a step on us. Now, smitty, what is one to do against those odds. I say our coaches and our DC will find a way to get our players to play up. That is how Nederland has been successful each year for the past 15 or so years and the entire rest of our district rides a roller coaster of success and failure. We stay constant because of good men leading good kids..
 3. Smitty, Let me break it down for you. Friday night Nederland will load the box with all they got to stop the run. They will make Livingston throw the ball. Easy scheme right, there is not a DC in the country who would do different. Now, because you don't like out current DC you will think he failed if Livingston runs us for 400 yards. Players make the plays, coaches put them in position to do so. If you see 8 or 9 in the box to try and stop the run and they still run on us find somewhere else to throw the blame. I see it like this. Our team maybe has just now found  themselves and found out how to play with an attitude. I look for Nederland to hang if our offense can roll. Who really cares about stats as long as the W comes at the end. I'm done, I know this was a waste of time anyway....
 4. Smitty, You give such easy questions. 1. Fake punt - why? easy, coaches call, maybe he saw something on game film that gave him reason to try and pull it off, this time it didn't work, next time maybe it does, remember it did work at the last home game. Why did the Saints kick an on-side in the super bowl after half time. That too was the coaches call, one that worked. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. our coaches record shows that the calls he makes usually are right. To dawgnut 1. Take away two long runs and our DC throws a shutdown defensive scheme. By the way those two long runs came after our starting linebacker was hurt. Before then we held them to an average of 3.2 yards per carry. 3.2 yards per carry for 56 carries. Seems to me they had a good scheme planned for two weeks. All that with the only player on defense, (sonnier), who could have ran down the Vidor running back on the sidelines in dress clothes. That wasn't their fastest back running those long runs either.... 2. Old offense vs. new offense - either offense you gotta have players make the plays. you can't have missed assignments, missed routes, give up on blocking assignment too soon, etc.... I prefer the old Nederland offense but the trend is the spread nowadays. Bottom line - game plan is there to win, players make it happen... Again, answer to smitty - Yes Nederland can still make the top four!
 5. no one is saying be satisfied with a top four finish. This is a young team, growing with experience each week, this year a top four is a good mark to aim for. Nederland has started off district with a loss to Vidor before and still rebounded for a good year. The sky is not falling despite what some might think.
 6. To answer your questions directly smitty, Yes they can. Fact is, and you do like facts, the success rate of them making the top four has been pretty good over the past 15 or so years, actually the correct facts would be the top three over the past 15 or so years. Therefore I'll stick with, Yes, Yes they can still make the top four.
 7. Nederland has a great DC, both as a person and as a coach. He gets the most out of what he has to work with. Injuries and ones ability have more to do with a coaches success than you give credit smitty. I have always believed you put Nederlands coaching staff across the field with the players that Ozen and Central field every year and they beat us hands down time after time. The boys at Nederland to me are always the ones who over achieve simply because of good coaching. I'm not sure why I gave you the time of day and responded to your post other than I know we have good men leading our boys. Let it go smitty, the cycle will turn, and all of a sudden our defense will be dominant again, and guess what, same coach!!!! For every bad fact you come up with, I can give you three good facts about our coaches. As far as middle school goes, Jack Lynch, ENOUGH SAID, coach like him and send them straight to varsity. If they don't leave middle school wanting to kick butt after playing for him they don't like the sport anyway....
 8. I'd look for maybe three QB's to get playing time this year. The one who moves the chains or matches up best against the defense gets the ball more during that game. Another creative year of coaching and getting the most out of what each QB brings to the huddle. Always fun to watch Bulldog Football....
 9. Has Ryan been getting any looks? I spoke with his mother and only talked about upcoming baseball season. I know he is still recovery some from his shoulder injury. Anyone heard
 10.
I just hope the Dogs don't take Lumberton lightly, they've had our number the last 2 seasons. I don't think Neumann will allow our new found confidence blind us this week anyway. BTW - I don't if Raider fans should be throwing the history card out there lol! Given Lumberton has beat us the last 2 years. Other than that, Nederland has brutalized the Raiders. All this being said, I hope the Dogs stay focused snd punch their ticket to the dance for the 12th time in 13 years. Ned by 14
My point exactly, Lumberton really doesn't want to get into a history lesson here....I see Dionte going off against Lumberton for about 250 yards and Lovelady throwing down over 100 rushing....This game has ugly potential all over it....
 11. History, you said it yourself. nederland by 24 points

That sounds more like what will really happen.
WOW sounds like someone is still sore about a really good goal line stand back in 06! ;D
I try to forget about that game but every time I go to Vidor stadium I shake my head and say, man I can't believe we lost that game. Did Vidor make the playoffs that year I have already forgotten, did they?
i saw their field last night and it's already mushy and muddy. look for nederland's band to play some sort of fight song thru every vidor offensive play. i'm also sure they will mispronounce every vidor player's name when called.
What? This has to be sarcastic...
not sarcastic...just true. it even happens in the jr high games. don't worry, you'll probably hear this all night. "shayne tipman with another pirate first down". that is if you can hear it over your fight song. no class.
You are right about one thing spoonbill, we probably won't be able to hear them call out shayne tipman because of the Nederland Fight song, the band usually plays it when Nederland is kicking butt or doing something good, so I agree, we probably won't hear his name much. I'll give you two band names that never stopped blowing noise, Ozen and Central, heck they don't even stop when their own coach is yelling at them. One thing and I'm done, you will never see a ref at a high school game go tell a head coach to tell his band to stop playing...Really now, spoonbill, band playing bothers you that much.

To you tinman I hope your son has a safe tour while in the service and proud you should be of him. I never really looked at Vidor as being a rivalry but I know some people do. I still can't believe we lost to Vidor in 06. That was one great comeback for you guys. Shame there won't be enough time left this Friday night. lol
 16.
Well, James, my friend, this is taken out of the PN-G playbook.  If Ned can get up by two or three touches then it will be difficult for Vidor to catch up.  And I hope this will be the case.  But, the question was about defense.  Vidor has 3 of the top 8 rushers.  Ned is 2nd to last in defense and has given up 1638 yards rushing.  My point being: there's nothing in the past that shows Ned can control a good running attack.  Central had 396 yards rushing against Ned.  Someone brought up the Waller game.  I believe Waller had close to, if not over, 400 yards total.  That night it had more to do with Ned's offense.  Plus the 1st game with everyone healthy, Ned gave up over 400 yards against WO-S.  So, you are right, something's got to give.  We'll see Friday night.  I hope you are right.

I'm not sure Nederlands defense can stop Vidors running attack.  If anyone thinks they can, what in the past 8 games gives you that belief?  I'm willing to listen.
It's all about match ups, Nederland will flat out out score Vidor because of how the offense matches ups against Vidors defense, Vidor will then get way behind and try to go to a passing offense to try and make up ground and it will find itself even farther behind. There you go smitty, I pretty much explained how it will happen....Hope you enjoy the results Friday night...

Nederlands defense is playing better now, better than in the beginning of the season. Again smitty, my point is, Nederland won't be defending against the run late in the game. One more thing, Vidor could still put up 400 yards rushing tonight and lose by three touchdowns. hard to believe huh?

 18.
Pay no attention to my friend, James.  He picked Nederland to blow past Central.  :D
I got to admit Soulja1, that was my one homer pick of the year against Central, on the more serious note, Nederland will dominate this game and score lots of points if their defense can get the stops on defense, if they can't, I agree low scoring game. Nederland wins either way, I just see if being a high score for Nederland.
 19. Soulja you have my cell phone number and I see where you have already tried to call me, I can't get a hold of you right now but I fully expect you to call at halftime and say, man you guys have THE PERFECT defense for our one dimensional offense... Low scoring game, we win by a field goal or less.... My prediction is purely based on Centrals lack of offense and us staying away from turnovers.
 20. I never said Nederland is the underdog, I fully expect Nederland to stop Central. I agree with Soulja, Central is simply another Central team....Rest my case......Central will dig themselves a hole in the first half, make adjustments at half time, but like in the past, a little too late.....
 21. Nederland wins this one with a strong defensive game plan. Centrals offense will be shut down. Nederland 14 Central 13
 22. I remember that year Soulja1, I believe that was ya'lls way of paying us back for the 58 - 8 butt kicking we gave you the last time we played you guys, (04), remember the hurricane didn't let us repeat it in 05.... Strange things can happen in Bulldog stadium.... Nederland 14 Central 13
