Everyone is forgotten eventually. The Bible tells us this life is like a mist or vapor that comes and goes quickly. The importance of worth or value is different for each individual, most if not all of the coaches you listed (and overwhelmingly the majority of coaches) would more than likely tell you if asked, that they could care less if someone remembered them 20-30 years later, they would be concerned with what they did in each of their players lives to make them better players and better people, and how their famlies and their God views them. I go back to John Wooden and his book, "THEY CALL ME COACH", he was talking about one of his former coaches, Alonzo Stagg I believe, and people would ask coach Stagg if the team he was coaching that year was the best team he had ever coached, and he would reply, "I dont know, get back with me in 20 years and I can tell you". We must also remember that we are viewed on many different levels, from lay people, to fans, to people who think they know the game but really dont, people who DO know the game, to our players, to other coaches, to our family, and ourselves, and to God. I would rather be viewed highly by God, my family, players, and fellow coaches. JMO
Great Post!

last playoff spot in 20-4a
any comments or thoughts on the battle for the last playoff spot in 20-4a? theres no score on the PNG livingston game from tuesday night, im just assuming that livingston won, leaving them tied in district at 5-5. the remaining schedule looks a little easier on lumbertons side, with them having vidor, png, nederland and the rematch with livingston. livingston has central, nederland, the rematch and ozen. this could come down to the rematch. but its 20-4a and its completely unpredictable. im a little biased here, but i see the raiders edging out the last spot over livingston. what are your thoughts?
I agree...but I'm a little biased myself! ;D -

Is Select Baseball Ruining League Baseball?
LumRaiderFan replied to REDBIRD99's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I've never really understood "select" at ages 6-12. Kids are still learning fundamentals of the game at this age and can learn it in league play, while they are still growing mentally and physically. IMO, "select", at least what I would consider the top teams (SunDevils, Houston Heat, Kyle Chapman, etc. ) , are suited better for the older players (14-18) who are trying to get a scholarship. I've seen many parents (who mean well ) spend alot of money and burn their kid out at an early age. Just my two cents.
This post is dead on...select at 13-14...you'll still have plenty of $350.00 bats to buy! >:( ;D -
Pujols deserves all the money he'll get... for probably 5 years. and then after that, the angels will go from paying him a little more than he deserves to wishing they'd never made the deal by the end of his contract when he's putting up Jim Thome numbers. I'm not saying he won't still be decent at that time, but there's no way that he'll still be a superstar in 7 years, or that he'll even be more than pretty good in 10.
They probably said that about Nolan...but there is only one Ryan Express!
How many shooters have you seen? If you haven't seen any, it sounds like your lease had some crappy management before the 13" rule went into effect. Were they shooting all the young bucks that had potential?
I've seen two shooters while hunting but no shot (bowhunting only). The area is typical for East Texas...some good deer and some inferior deer. I hunt on a small piece of acreage that I own and also on Type II. Do you even hunt in East Texas where this rule effects you?

I was in south Texas two years ago at a bowhunting only day lease and a guy from east Texas killed a 1.5 year old basket rack and pencil horned 8 point. The deer still had perfect teeth with a very thin neck and was obviously a very young deer. The guy had to pay a $500 fine for the underage deer. He swore and was angry that his "mature" deer was an old deer and he had been hunting for umpteen years and could age them and this was obviously a mature blah blah blah. I'll bet that he would be glad to tell you that it was a prime example of mature deer that just won't make the 13" rule. The only thing that it is a prime example of is that he can't age deer on the hoof or even dead for that matter. The 13" is not perfect but the old rule of shooting anything that moved was hardly effective. In lieu of a better way to judge mature deer, the 13" rule is the easiest to visually see and enforce. The obvious best answer is for all hunters to do right thing while managing a deer herd. Can anyone venture to guess what the compliance rate for killing mature deer would be if it is left up to hunters? I think the truth that we routinely kill baby 4 pointers should quickly answer that question.
I have had to pass on 3 deer this year alone that needed to be culled...these deer will never be removed unless someone breaks the law. I would rather be able to make that choice myself...it's a problem not to allow for culls. I notice you want proof that it doesn't work...I want proof that this rule alone does work!
Show us some pics of these deer that you passed on. I'll be truly surprised if they were really mature cull bucks.
No pics...I saw them on stand(1 before season start, 2 after)...sorry I couldn't surprise you! I know what a cull deer is and I know how to age them. Two of them were heavy four points and the other was a six with no brow tines...deer that any managed lease would want gone!

Still waiting for all those "monster bucks" at the Moore Plantation this 13" rule was supposed to provide us.. There were a grand total of 3 weighed in at the check station opening weekend off of 26000+ acres. One was 14" and one a 16" . Not sure of the third Maybe it will take a few more years , this is only the 4th or maybe even the 5th year we have had this stupid law
We are 10 miles from the Moore and it was very slow for us opening weekend as well. I had a friend (ex pres.. of our lease) that after the first week or so he would hunt the Moore exclusively.. He loved the place as well as another member we have. I have not been out there since 07 Now my cousin on the other hand who hunts in Colmesneil said they have harvest some monsters this year as well some other folks in Corrigan. The Corrigan guys have been doing the management thing for 20 plus years... it works.
And I'm sure their management program in years past included killing older deer that had less than 13" spread so they could't continue to breed. That's where the 13" rule is flawed...in East Texas the deer have relatively low protien browse most of the year and some deer will never reach 13". That's why I say let the clubs and private landowners manage their herd their way...if they don't want to manage for trophy deer, so what. But, oh well, we're stuck with the 13" rule that is not producing these amazing results as advertised!
You know what is really sad about all of this??? A bunch of grown adults want to get on here and whine about their rights to not have to listen to a prayer when the majority of the high school kids take it upon themselves to stand up and do it on their own before each game! I know for a fact that our players & cheerleaders pray before the games and I am pretty sure the Inidanettes do as well! Maybe we should all sit back and look at the example these kids are setting! The so-called "personhood" initiative was rejected by more than 55 percent of voters, falling far short of the threshold needed for it to be enacted. And this is just another Vote that the REP.
