How could you put players like Jimmy Smith from Victoria High on any all ANYTHING, and NOT include the likes of BJ Tyler, Troy Hamm, Kendrick Perkins, Stephen Jackson, LaBradford Smith, among MANY, MANY others? It baffles me but since it was a fan poll, I am not surprised... Lazeek: A straw poll conducted by fans and such can in no way determine who was actually better between Perkins and Bosh...BOTH are enjoying really good NBA careers and BOTH have high school state titles, but only ONE of them has an NBA ring as well.... ;)....Its a great debate, but honestly its all about the side that you're on...Some would say Bosh for their own reasons and some would say Perkins for theirs...They are BOTH sucessful and BOTH should be on any all century UIL team...Period.
1st of all, if you saw their Austin tourney matchups you know Bosh dominated Perkins in all aspects. 2nd, by the numbers Bosh is having the better NBA career. Lastly, in case you don't know already....everybody gets a ring when the Garnett/Allen/Pierce show wins a title.
As a matter fact I WAS there and that was certainly not the case...They BOTH had stellar games and Bosh was NOT guarding Perkins, he was being guarded by #32 and doubled by Bosh. Perkins was not guarding Bosh either. Bosh was scoring off of transition and some putbacks...No domination there...and lastly Perkins is a starter and key contributer on that NBA title team..You cannot take that away from him...I am sure Bosh would trade his HS championship for Perkins NBA title ANYDAY!  ;)
About the state title game, did you watch any of it???? WOW. Chris would probably trade his HS ring for Perk's NBA ring but I am SURE he would'nt trade his salary for Perk's salary......Bosh salary= $ 15,779,000 Perkins= $ 4,750,000. Almost 4 times more than Perk. I think he will tell Perk to keep the ring & I'll keep the cash. Did I mention " dominated " previously?
Don't have much to say about this except BH did not tie K-Park in district.  It was an outright win.  The fact that K-Park got two of the superlatives is just goofy.  And the offensive MVP came off a team with 3 district wins.  Weird stuff happens in selection meetings. Congrats to all the young ladies for the honors!
Thats crazy....3 wins for the offensive MVP
3. I'll give you one better....... UT retired Kevin Durant's jersey after one season. Granted, he was great but only one year before he cashed his check. I think that is wrong of UT
4.
LET ME SAY THIS..........THE FACT THAT I HAVE ONLY GIVEN 5 TECHS TO COACHES IN 17 YEARS OF OFFICIATING PROBABLY DOES NOT MAKE ME AN EXPERT ON THIS THREAD...but.....in any situation involving the second technical foul.....a coach would have to run out on the court and punch me before I would do it...and  in a regional he would probably have to urinate on my leg .....I preface this by saying I was not at this game...and cannot and will not pass judgement on this crew...(but would like to have seen what took place.....
Thats ridiculous. If you bother to watch many games either in person or on TV, you would know that many times coaches are thinking the same thing but get tossed for egregious behavior that is way short of "punching a ref in the face". If many officials used your logic, coaches would be exploiting refs to the max. You have to grow a pair & enforce the rules for respect, not to see how few technicals you can hand out so everyone likes me. Coaches prey on the weak ones like that.
5. How would that explain Jimmy Smith ahead of Larry Johnson & Ostertag
Not only that , according to Mr. T's list...Daniel Ewing made it twice on his list. Go figure

8. I think the old saying about the police goes for the UIL, " you can beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride ". He still has to go to Austin for the ejection.....apology or not.
9. I disagree with " co-" anything whether it is champions, MVP's. What's next..... " Co-sportsmanship" awards for the two teams that tied for last place.
10. Sounds like he will still get a trip to Austin out of the Regional Tourney, just for a different purpose.
11. Where are the top local seniors headed to play basketball?
12. what did the LH coach do to get the heave-ho
13.
In '79, Buna and HJ were undefeated in district (with only 1 team from each district going to the playoffs). 5 seconds left and Buna's Billie P. is at the free throw line, shooting 2 with a 1 point lead over HJ.  He misses both and HJ's center (can't remember the 6'5" dude's name) gets the rebound and dribbles through 5 Buna players to hit the 10' gamer winner at the buzzer. Fast forward three weeks to the second HJ-Buna game.  Billie P. is at the line with the game tied, shooting a 1 and 1 with 6 seconds to go.  He misses the front end.... HJ gets the rebound..... pass - pass - shot...... Bucket at the Buzzer.
Sammy Stelly
14. That's getting dangerously close to my "glory days"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15. I have been there. Looks like it will hold around 600. It will remind you a lot of the new HJ gym except it is real green & white. It will definitely be an SRO crowd & probably one that the fire marshall will intervene circa Kountze - EC of old. Get there early or you don't get in !!!!!!!!!
16. Hwy 69 South through Bmt, take HWY124 / Fannett Rd. exit, go left under freeway about 1 mile down on the right. Can'tmiss it......its the old Hebert Panther campus.
17. I also agree with WHSalum, Bleed. New coaches aren't going to fix this. If you are named to the "Honorable Mention" team you are effectively the "3rd Team All-District" selection. All of this pc crap is out of control. When I played it was 1st or A team & 2nd or B team, not Red team & White team or whatever color fits....you know.
18. That's wrong. There is a "flagrant foul" in high school basketball. It is common foul but when deemed flagrant, it is an automatic ejection.
19. Unbelieveable!!!!!! He was a great player. My prayers go out to his family & the HJ world. He made a mark in HJ basketball history.
