Defense and baseball fundamentals are not taught to young players in pee wee or little league.It is not taught or demanded in High School.Runners advance because outfielders dont know how to set up to catch a fly ball or hit a cut off man.Catchers dont block balls in the dirt.Infielders dont know where to go with the ball in all situations.And finally fundamentals are not recruited.Daddys need to teach there sons how to play the game not spend all the time at the cage.Little league coaches should spend more time on fundamentals(news flash if you want to WIN teach your kids how to play).High School coaches give the fungo bat to a player and go TEACH your fielders how.Work with your catchers they dont learn how to catch by catching bullpen.

VOP- they play football during baseball season and then get out- coached by more experienced coaches.ie PNG,LCM, Montgomery.

Some coaches let the catcher call the game.This depends on the catchers knowledge of his pitchers and the other teams hitters.If the catcher is capable it makes the game run much smoother.Also it is part of the game that must be learned if one wants to advance levels.

Fort whatever reason kids in this area get overlooked by major universities.I think Babe Ruth should use its connections with its alumni,area coaches etc.and hold a showcase every year that draws numbers of college coaches from all over to see the talent we have in se tx.

If a kid from this area is good enough to play baseball at another university,he should be choosing between Lamar and the other school,not going there and never have been talked to by Lamar.

When it comes to kids from southeast Gilligan is a bargain shopper.Gilligan preys on the kids that want to stay close to home."We are out of money and can't give you very much "is a poor recruiting strategy.Also taking money away from a three year starter won't build much loyalty.Please don't take this as a put down to the kids that choose to go to Lamar.A whole lot of great young men have and do play for Lamar.There is a whole lot more to recruiting than money.With only 11.7 scholarships no one has lots of money.It is a package of athletics,academics,social life,playing time,distance to girl friend,etc..
