Okay, here are my two cents. For those of you that don't know, I am, well, I WAS a player as of last friday at around ten o'clock. I have played HJ basketball for 4 years now, and I can honestly say that in all my four years, I have never seen a team as disciplined as LaVega. They were in a lot of ways like Nederland except far more athletic. They did nothing dumb or flashy, they just played solid, fundamental basketball.

Players from LaVega were where they were supposed to be at all times. When we went up one with forty seconds left and tried to make the pass up the court to get it across and stall, the LaVega players knew they needed to get the ball. They knew who our go-to guy was Prudhomme, so they stuck to him like glue. No timeout was needed to tell their players where to be.

The defense they played was awesome. Not perfect, but awesome. They started out soft and let you get the ball up the court for the first part of the game, then around the third quarter, they started a little half-court trap defense, then once crunch time came around, there was full-court pressure! HJ knew how to beat it and had prepared for it, but Friday night, after getting ready to take the floor because Athens was shooting free-throws to win it basically, and then having to wait through TWO overtime periods did something to both teams that night, I can promise you that.

LaVega was a [s]good[/s] great team. Their will to win was just like that of HJ's. They were not unbeatable, and anyone who watched Friday night could have told you that. HJ, I dare to say, COULD have one that game, but I don't think SHOULD have one the game. Were we capable of winning that game? NO DOUBT!!!!! But capability, probability, and actuality are three totally different things that can be extremely painful when they all don't agree.

Now for the most important part of my post. LaVega's basketball team (not it's fans, because I am hearing differently of them, although I'm not positive about them) was the classiest group of young men I have seen in a LONG time (aside from HJ of course). They were extremely happy that they one that game, but when we went to shake their hands, there was not an ounce of sneering or disrespect coming from them. All they had were positive things to say about us and I think that is the most important aspect of High-School athletics. After the game when we were waiting on the bus to come pick us up at the back of the Coliseum, they came out AGAIN and shook all of our hands, congratulating us on a great season and complimenting all of us. They were extremely well-mannered, and if I HAD to lose to anyone, I'm glad it was them.

Excellent post.
I have no ties whatsoever to Hardin-Jefferson, but its hard not to root for a team/school/community that has young men like this representing them.  Congrats on a great season and good luck in your future.

Dove, I don't think they know much about the "board of education" around those parts! :D ;)
I was kind of wondering about the same thing. Probably went over some people's head with  that comment.

Silsbee posters hove moved on to next year while this thread is still growing.  Let it go, great run, but you fell short.
that's incorrect.  the only reason the silsbee/la vega thread isn't getting anymore talk is because it was locked 3 days ago...

HJ simply lost to a better team last week.  LV is just a better team than HJ this yr. There is no evidence to the contrary, only sentiment.

So did Silsbee lose to the better team as well???
Yes, LV better than Silsbee and HJ.

Yep, been watching your posts for a while now.  It's clear that you two are socially, intellectually, and morally superior to the entire remainder of the members.  Don't know how you stand it. ::)

Yessir --- I was thinkink that it was ironic that a couple of city slickers would know about the  "board of education". Out in the country the board of education is not talked about in the past tense. Maybe thats why certain schools have to continuously explain to their discipline procedures to the UIL.

For sure.  If you won 2 close games, there is no evidence that you didn't win 2 close games.
Clarification: there is no evidence -- besides sentiment -- that the losers of those 2 games are better than the team that beat them.

No doubt about that.  As stated earlier, this is true about all games, wouldnt you agree?

I am thinking that it is Person. I am not sure though. I think that he is saying that people are making all sorts of comments about what they  shoulda, coulda done, but the fact of the matter is that the kids were the ones on the court.  We don't realize how good Lavega really is because we did not play them. It is easy to sit on the sidelines and say what you wouldve done in a particular situation. It is different when you are actually playing the game. I have a lot of respect for him. He actually put the game in perspective.

    • But that’s what Trump’s fanboys don’t understand.  When he talked about sexually assaulting women, y’all laughed it off as “locker room talk.”  When it was proven that he raped E. Jean Carroll, you cried that it was all an injustice… a lie. Even though he’d already confessed to doing the same thing to other women.  John McCain has suffered and sacrificed more for his country than practically anybody, except possible gold star families… and Trump called him a loser or something to that effect. “Oh, it was a joke that no one was supposed to take seriously.” But when Trump, after disrespecting the sacrifices of one of our most valiant, y’all are like “just because Trump didn’t go to Omaha Beach doesn’t mean he isn’t pro military!” Really? All you have to do is listen to what he said about McCain’s service. Not McCain as an opponent, not McCain’s political views… about the fact that the man was tortured, probably raped, and who knows what all else for over five years for swearing an oath and putting on the uniform.  But all of y’all supposedly “pro military” people just laughed along with Trump. “Good one, Sir! Maverick my new-hind! Filthy Rino!”  I don’t understand how the same people (y’all) who probably always say “thank you for your service” to any veteran still support a guy who craps on the ones who suffered the most on our behalf.  It’s baffling.
    • Wow. Do you actually believe your little scenario has any chance of alleviating you of your moral immaturity? Deflection at it's best...or worse. You seem to be a sad case. If you died today, I would be remiss if not attributing your cause of death to severe TDS, and of course, Covid. Look at that. I just made a joke about your death. You did not get offended. Nobody was offended. Not one person will accuse me of being hateful towards fellow human beings. But yet, you hate Trump because he made a similar crude comment about McCain. You tried to attribute that comment as evidence Trump hates the military. What grade level of schoolchildren do you think is laughing at you for that "less that adolescent" (hint, hint) comment. You used one crude comment in an attempt to justify your TDS. Now, when called on it, you try to deflect the whole topic. You are certainly not having any fun with this, but you sure are providing entertainment for the board. It's a shame you can't join in on the fun. I think even Big Girl might be to the point of giggling at the shamelessness you are exhibiting.
    • It’s actually sad that he’s so in your head that you continually create these stupid analogies.
    • I get called way worse all of the time… and it doesn’t matter to me.    But it’s like this…. Let’s say you have a favorite football team-maybe the Cowboys. As a diehard fan, you whole-heartedly believe that the Cowboys are the best team in the NFL every year… would it make it sense to cash in your IRAs and borrow every dime you could borrow against your home and bet it all on the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl this year? That would be letting your devotion and affection for your team make a really bad choice that will have negative consequences of your plan doesn’t work out.    That’s kinda like sticking with Trump when he keeps losing and shows no sign of winning this year.  But at least you can proudly boast that you were DC4L.
